『Chapter 22』

"Here you are." You placed the tray of the 'special' dish ahead of Brandel as you named it. "A galette des Rois."

"Y/n, huh? A beautiful name for a beautiful lady." Cedric whispered for you to hear, sending your a glance. You twitched an eye, forcing a smile. If only Ciel didn't give you orders to be 'nice', you would skin this man alive. Though you left a little message for him.

"Say that again and you'll deal with the devil behind you." You calmly smiled. He chuckled, taking your words as a joke. You moved away, standing by Sebastian's side. "Did he say something to you, dear?" He lowered his head to you and whispered only for you to hear. "Oh, don't worry. He was dumb to take my response as a joke." You saw the corner of his lips curved slightly, you knew he liked this side of you.

The dinner went out quietly as suddenly, Cedric started to taunt Ciel forwardly. He stood up from his seat, the chair behind him fell from the impact. He pointed to Ciel, threatening him, "The two things I hate the most are cocky brats and bets that don't make money!" as he then yelled out, "Drop dead, guard dog!" before finally hiding under the dining table.

You shook your head at his attempt. Too bad for him you already took down his minions. What was he thinking? That his men would get in and shot everyone here? Please, that was so in his imagination.

After a few seconds, he got back up, a terrified look on his face. "Oh, did you drop something, Mr. Brandel?" You asked, tilting your head. Cedric was filled with confusion along with fear. He looked around, sweat beads were visible on his forehead.

"I do believe you're drunk. Please try some of this and no more alcohol." Ciel remarked. Cedric hesitantly nodded, sitting back on his chair which you picked up for him. He shakily grabbed his fork, taking a bite of the fancy dish. However, when swallowed it, he choked and spit out a bullet.

"Ah, congratulations. It seems you have la fève." Said Sebastian, pouring tea into his cup.

"Your friends leave this behind. So I'll return it to you." He referred to the bullet, bending down to his side. Cedric stood up in horror, trying to get away.

You took a small step forward, "Your friends seem to come quite a while before you did." said you as you let Sebastian finish your words. "So, We've already given them a warm Phantomhive welcome."

"Th-That's impossible. There were at least fifty of them. How could you fight them all, a-alone?" Cedric mumbled, panic lingered on his tone. You sighed disappointedly, "Do please give me some credits, would you? He wasn't alone." Cedric averted his gaze to you, shaking his head aggressively. "What?!"

From behind you all, Ciel spoke up. "Lau told me you were dealing with guns in the black market. And he was never on your side."

"Sebastian, make a new pot of tea!" He ordered. Sebastian walked to him, a pot of tea ready in his hands.

You heard Cedric shriek as he pulled out a loaded gun from his suit. "Just die already, you little brat!" He yelled, firing the gun three times, but none of them hit anything. Sebastian caught the bullets in his fingers mid-air. He turned to him and dropped them to the floor.

"I just returned your belongings, and you've already lost more of them," Sebastian responded as he walked closer to Cedric.

"Wh-what? How is-? How are my men easily be defeated by you?! And her! She couldn't be that strong!" Cedric stumbled with his step, looking at you and Sebastian over and over. You grinned and let out a small chuckle, "You're lucky the young master ordered me to play nice. Though I hated it. And I don't like the way you underestimated me." ending your words with a sly smirk wasn't enough for him to realize he was doomed. He aimed his gun at you, pulling the trigger as you saw the bullet flew to your face. You saw Sebastian moved to you from the corner of your eye. Bold of him to assume you'd let him block the bullet for you.

You easily caught the small bullet between your fingers, slightly burning your skin. "A for trying." You gave him that. You threw the bullet back to him swiftly like how a bullet shot from a gun, fast enough to make a single scratch on his cheek.

"I am half of what he is, you know?" You continued, pointing to Sebastian with your eyes. It was a stupid attempt for him to fire his gun at Sebastian.

"I simply cannot be killed by such toys, I'm afraid." Sebastian grinned. At Cedric's third shot, Sebastian blocked the muzzle of the with only his finger, making the bullet forced back to Cedric's hand. He let out a pained cry, gripping onto his bleeding hand as he crashed to the floor.

Finally realizing his chances were likely zero, Cedric got up, running his way to the door. The door opened by itself only to reveal Sebastian, again.

"You've forgotten one more thing," Sebastian said, setting a crown from the dish he ate earlier on top of Cedric's head.

Cedric's eyes widened in terror. "M-Monster!" He faltered.

"Goodness! How very discerning for a human." Sebastian replied calmly. The room darkened as Cedric dropped to the ground. Black auras started to fill the room as Sebastian's eyes glowed red.

"Yes. I'm one hell of a butler."

Ciel stood up from his seat, looking directly at Cedric. "Brandel. Why do you suppose no one knows what punishment the Queen's guard dog inflict?" Ciel reached a hand to his eye patch, revealing the contract seal.

"It's because dead men tell no tales."

Now that was done, Lau and Ran Mao came back to the room. You were still trying to figure out who they were but couldn't care less about it. Although the girl looked at you, scanning your feature. "You're a cute one." She suddenly spoke. You blinked a couple of times at that, finding it a bit odd, but you shrugged it off.

"All done, my lord?" Lau inquired, walking over to Ciel as he sipped on his tea right after you replenished his cup.

"And where were you?" He asked back, eyes landing on Lau.

"Well you see, someone gave me this." Lau pulled out a white letter and gave it to Sebastian. He flipped it a couple of times before delivering it to Ciel. Ciel studied the envelope in his hand. "Who gave this to you?" Ciel asked, looking back to Lau after he checked the letter.

"Some lads in white. They seem to have taken me as a servant." Lau replied. With that being said, he took off, leaving the three of you to discuss the plan that you assume you would be taking part in.

Sebastian handed him a letter opener as Ciel then took it, cutting through the paper with it. He pulled out whatever was in it. You narrowed your eyes at the three slips of paper he held. He put down the slips on the table, focusing on the main letter inside instead.

"My, my, those are the traveling circus that is coming to town," Sebastian said, picking up the slips that looked like tickets. You walked closer to him as he then showed them to you.

"Noah's Ark Circus? I guess the queen has a quest for us." Ciel cleared his throat, eyes continuing to read the letter from the queen.

The topic caused you to shook. You felt a lump in your throat as you cleared them to speak up, "Please tell me I can back down on this one." You pleaded. The two gentlemen looked at you as Ciel responded, "Well, of course, you are coming. The queen sent me three tickets for a reason."

A certain memory flashed to your eyes as you shook your head. "What's the matter, Y/n? You never backed down on a case with the young master."

Yeah, but not this one, you bastard!

You forced up a smile to cover up your slight distress. "Nothing. Just not a big fan of circuses." You said though some of the words were true. Ciel nodded at you, "Then it's settled." You dismissed yourself, not wanting to participate in any more of the discussion for how hard the topic pressured you.

Sebastian watched you left the room as Ciel continued. He suspected something from you, something he couldn't put a finger on. He then escorted Ciel to his room, preparing him for bed.

"You have a full schedule tomorrow. Sleep well, my Lord." He said as Ciel laid down onto his bed after Sebastian put him in his nightclothes. He took the candle from the bedside table, leaving the chamber.

He made his way to your room, for he was determined to find out why did your mood changed all of a sudden. When he was right at your door, he lightly knocked. "Y/n... are you still up?"

"No, piss off." He heard your answer, grinning at your satire. He let himself in without your permission, causing you to groan. "Ugh, what is it, Sebastian?" You asked, settling in your nightgown.

"I was just wondering, Are you alright? You seemed a little troubled when you excused yourself." Sebastian questioned, reaching a hand to your shoulder. You grimaced, slapping his hand away, "I'm fine, just-... I need some time alone."

Sebastian tried to comfort you by attempting to embrace you but you shook your head, rejecting him. "Not now, Sebastian. I'm not in the mood."

"Would you just tell me what's bothering you? I can help."

"Nothing! Just leave!" Your tone went higher but that didn't stop him. "If you could just-"

"I said. LEAVE ME ALONE!!" You yelled, snapping your head up to him and pointing to the door. His eyes expanded at your sudden outburst. He noticed you were trying to hold back a tear. He sighed as he learned that this had something to do with your past.

Without any other words, he nodded at you respectively, "Good night, Y/n." he wished before he left you to your slumber.

He made a vow to himself that one day, he would bring a smile to your face, a real one. That would be enough.
