The gods try...well, sort of

[LOGAN'S POV]

Once we all regained consciousness, we found ourselves in front of a large fire. I then saw a giant bull-like creature sleeping in front of the fire. I quickly got up and reached for my bow.

"Don't bother," I hear Kenzie mutter beside me. "He's not gonna hurt us."

I noticed Travis and Conner were sneaking closer to the creature, trying to poke it with a stick. Kenzie scolded them, but it proved ineffective as they just got closer.

"If you don't want to die, I suggest you get away from that thing," Chandler threatened, making the two glare at him.

"Fine," Travis groaned before sitting beside the thing, Connor made his way next to him.

I relaxed a bit as I sat back down. He was just asleep in front of us, not even bothering us a bit. I groaned as my head started to hurt.

"Ugh, la mia testa sembra un mattone,(Ugh, my head feels like bricks)" I groaned, trying my best to soothe my aching head.

Meanwhile, Travis, Connor, and Kenzie all looked at me. I looked back at them. "What?"

"You speak Italian?" Travis asked.

I nodded. "Well, I haven't started learning in a few weeks but it came out easier than I thought. But yeah, I speak Italian."

"Ah," Connor muttered. "I honestly thought you were a no-sabo kid."

"A what?" Chandler asked.

"It's a person who was born in Spain but doesn't speak Spanish," Kenzie explained. "But I think the Italian term is a no sé kid."

I nodded. "It is from what I heard. But in my defense, I think I used to speak Italian since I was three but it just faded away when my sister and I stayed in South Carolina with my grandma it wasn't gone completely until I made it to Delaware and they made me just get rid of it entirely."

Kenzie huffed. "I hate orphanages,"' she muttered. "They always try to change you to make you 'fit in' with others. Do they not get the fact that not everyone is perfect? I just hate it."

I nodded. "It just sucks," I admitted. "But we had a house to live in so I didn't complain much."

Kenzie continued to look down. I could tell she was thinking about something deep, but I didn't really have anything to go off of, so I just left it alone and turned back to the creature. It's horns. One of them was cut off. That's when I finally realized what I was looking at.

"Holy crap that's the minotaur," I finally let out. How did I not realize that was the minotaur? Percy was carrying around his horn for a week since he cut it off and he's kept it as a souvenir in his side of our cabin since.

Now he was just asleep in front of us, with Travis and Connor still trying to poke his nose. Kenzie once again told them to stop, but neither of them listened.

I finally stood up. "We need to leave," I said. "We can't trust that this Minotaur won't do anything to us, and we don't know where we are."

Kenzie nodded. "Yeah, you're right," she spoke, getting up herself.

Chandler pulled Connor and Travis away from the Minotaur and we started to leave. I felt a chill run up my spine as we reached a few trees. I then ducked as something flew over my head, sticking onto the tree I was in front of.

The five of us spun around to see a masked person in front of us holding an axe. She glared at me, her face practically saying 'How dare you dodge my murder attempt?' I didn't want to get killed, so we just stepped as far away from her as we could.

"What are you doing here?" she asked us.

"We're wondering the same thing," I replied. "Trust us, we're just trying to get out of here and get back to our quest."

The girl didn't say anything, instead, she moved in closer. I thought she was going to kill me again, but she just pulled her axe from the tree, not keeping her eyes off of me. I watched as she walked away to sit towards the Minotaur.

"Okay, this girl is...strange," Kenzie whispered. I nodded.

"Let's not spend any more time around her than we should," I suggested, pushing them further into the trees.

The further we walked, the darker it became, that's when I knew it was nighttime, that got me into a bit of a panic. The oracle said three days. How are we going to save my mom and sister in three days? What's gonna happen in three days? Are they going to die? Am I going to die?

Luckily we got out of the woods a few minutes later, but that did not calm me. No taxi was going to take us to Momus, no one even knows Momus exists.

Kenzie urged us forward. "I think I have an idea of where Momus's map is."

"How do you know?"

"Well, Momus is a forgotten God, right? Irrelevant."

"Right," I nodded. "Continue."

"Well, since your mom is from Italy, then we can assume that he hid the clues somewhere there, most likely somewhere forgotten."

"And what if it's not that easy?" Chandler asked. "I mean, we can't travel to Italy in the span of three days, we don't even know if Heather even has that long."

"And flying is out of the question," Travis added.

"I don't think we can get a ship this late in the day," I told them. "I can transform into a giant whale, but I don't know how long I'll keep it until I pass out."

"You can transform into a giant whale?" Connor asked me. I nodded. "That is so cool!"

I noticed a body of water in front of us. I walked towards it and placed my hand in the water.

"Hey, Dad," I said. "This is...a bad time, but we need your help. We need some transportation–no hippocampi, please. I don't know how long we have until this quest ends, but we need you...please."

Nothing but silence. Giving up, I walked over to one of the tables. The others sat down with me. Kenzie looked over to the booth. "I'll see if they have some leftovers in there."

I nodded, not even caring at the moment. Travis walked with Kenzie with Connor and Chandler following behind, leaving me alone.

I huffed. "I knew I was going to be ignored," I muttered. "Why did I even try? It's hopeless."

Suddenly, a light appeared behind me, making me lucky that I was turned around. I shielded my eyes until the light finally dimmed. I then turned around to see a tall, black-haired woman looking back at me. She looked my age with lighter skin and brownish-green eyes.

"Lady Hera?" I questioned.

The woman winced. "Not exactly," she said. "I am her daughter, Hebe, goddess of Youth."

"Ahh," I muttered. "Why are you here?"

Hebe gave me a small smile. "Poseidon sent for someone to help you on this quest."

I huffed. "Of course, he couldn't come himself," I groaned. "How are you going to help me?"

Hebe walked over to me, making something appear in her hand before giving it to me. It was a small necklace that looked like it came from the Egyptian era.

"Hephaestus made it," she told me. "He took some small inspiration from the Egyptian gods."

I nodded. "Figures," I said simply. "What is it? Some kind of compass?"

"It is," she said. "It'll show you where you need to go, and can also be used for teleportation, though you can only use it three times, and each time, it will get darker and darker until it can no longer be of use."

I started at it for a moment. "Why are you helping me?"

Hebe shrugged. "Someone has to," she said. "Otherwise this quest won't be complete in time."

I sighed. "So...how long do we really have for this quest?" I asked. "Do you know?"

Hebe nodded. "I do, but you have to figure that out yourself."

I sighed. "Of course I do."

The goddess gave me a sad smile before putting a hand on my shoulder. "Don't worry young hero, you can do this, just remember who you're doing this for."

I nodded once again.

Hebe turned around to see the others coming back. "Good luck," she told me. "Your mother's waiting."

With that, she disappeared, not in a blinding light this time. Kenzie and the others walked up to me. I looked at the necklace in my hand.

"What's that?" Kenzie asked.

I sighed. "Let's just say...they tried."
