Chapter Fifty-Two
(Never Say 'Glum' Like That Again)
Mars POV
I knock on Korri's door, to see if she was there, or still upstairs with Apollo, who's either (most likely) doing something stupid and or shady, or, (less likely) something smart.
"Come in."
I softly push open the door.
Korri's staring at her leg, which is clearly over-wrapped in a slightly green tinted gauze, that reeks of herbs that is an inch away from her ankle.
"Hey." I say.
"You can sit next to me." She pats the bed beside her, and I accept her offer.
"Did Apollo do anything stupid?"
She smiles. "Well, no."
"Then how come you're so glum?"
She looks at me, her eyebrows raised. "Never say 'glum' like that again."
"Well?"
"I guess... It's just weird." She frowns.
"I can agree with you on that."
"It's not weird that I- I... I just passed out one day, and didn't wake up for a little less than a week?"
"Now that's weird, sure." I say.
"B-but... I-I...."
"Korri." I breathe. "You need to calm the hell down. You're just making the poison spread faster."
"So you heard."
"The poison thing? Sure. I don't ignore EVERYTHING Apollo says, just, don't tell him I said that."
"'Kay?"
"Did he find anything else out?"
"He didn't say anything else, other than he'd run more tests."
"Oh."
"Well," she looks at me. "Do you have any idea what's wrong with me?"
"Well, it's not the most logical thought." I frown. "But it's also kinda likely?"
"So?"
"I think Lola's the cause."
Korri frowns. "How?"
"Well, I think she..." Now that I'm saying it out loud, it makes even less sense than it did in my head. "Well, um...."
Korri's frown deepens. "If you do not tell me, you'll regret it."
"Well, I think she's a vampire?" I shrug, my cheeks burning. "Or, at least she's turning into one?"
She stares at me. "Nope."
"I told you, it isn't the most logical theory." I sigh. "But it makes sense, kinda."
Korri rolls her eyes. "So she bit my leg? Is that what you're saying?"
"No." I make a face. "I am NOT saying that. Your cut is obviously poison, you don't need a medic to figure that out."
"So?"
"I'm SAYING that Lola may have SPREAD the poison to you somehow. But there is also evidence that she may or may not be a vampire."
"Welp, I still think this is bull."
"Go for it," I nod. "Or...."
"Or what?"
"Or you could hear me out."
She rolls her eyes, but nods.
"Look, gods exist, treants exist, dryads exist." She nods. "Then technically, all myth exists. Well in some way."
She frowns. "Get to your point."
"Then it's not the weirdest thing yet. So it's a possibility. Considering ALL of myth as SOME version of the vampire."
"But how would I have been infected."
"I originally thought it was you being sick-" I slam my hand onto my mouth.
Shit.
"What?" she whispers. "I'm sick?"
"Look," I say, realizing that now the secret's out, I may as well explain.
