It felt like nothing had changed, even though it had been months since Aurelie and Scarlett had last spent time together.
The two of them had been inseparable since they were three, and despite all the changes in their lives, when Scarlett walked into the house, it was as if no time had passed.
"Scarlett!" Aurelie grinned, throwing her arms around her best friend as soon as she saw her. "You're finally back!"
Scarlett laughed, hugging her back tightly. "It feels like forever! You've been keeping all the juicy details from me, though, haven't you?" She pulled back with a playful smirk, eyeing Aurelie up and down. "So, what's the deal with you and Mr. Scobell?"
Aurelie groaned, throwing herself onto the couch dramatically. "Oh my god, Scarlett. Don't start."
Scarlett raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms. "What? It's been weeks! I know you've got all the love story details. You guys are practically inseparable now."
Aurelie rolled her eyes but couldn't hide her smile. "Okay, fine. You want to know the truth? We're together. Happy now?"
Scarlett's eyes lit up, and she plopped down next to her, practically vibrating with excitement. "I knew it! You two are so cute together. I've been saying it for months."
Aurelie laughed, but there was a slight flush to her cheeks. "Well, yeah. It kind of just happened. We were always around each other, and then... one day, it just clicked."
Scarlett leaned in, her voice dropping into a mock-serious tone. "So, when did the first kiss happen? Was it during one of your movie nights where you two were sitting too close to each other, trying not to look too obvious?"
Aurelie buried her face in her hands. "Scarlett! I swear, I can't even have a normal conversation with you. You're worse than my siblings."
"Oh please, I've been your best friend since we were three. You can't hide anything from me." Scarlett leaned back with a smug grin. "So, you're telling me there was no kiss during those movie nights? No makeout sessions halfway through?"
Aurelie shot her a warning glance but couldn't hold back a laugh. "Alright, fine! Yes, there have been kisses." She rolled her eyes at the way Scarlett's grin widened. "I can't believe you're still grilling me about this."
Scarlett put her hands up innocently. "I'm just saying, I knew this would happen. You and Walker? It was only a matter of time before you two would end up together again . You've been practically glued to each other."
Aurelie leaned back, finally relaxing a bit as she grinned. "You're impossible."
Scarlett's expression softened for a moment, and she placed her hand on Aurelie's shoulder. "Hey, I'm happy for you. You deserve someone who makes you smile like that."
Aurelie smiled, feeling the warmth of her best friend's words. "Thanks. It's just... you know how it is. With Walker, everything just feels right. Like it's always been this way."
Scarlett nodded, her teasing demeanor replaced with something softer. "I get it. I'm glad you two finally figured it out. You've been in love with him since forever."
Aurelie laughed, pushing her playfully. "I was not! You're exaggerating."
Scarlett winked. "Okay, okay, maybe I am. But seriously, I couldn't be happier for you."
Aurelie smiled, feeling her heart warm. "I'm glad you're here, Scarlett. It's been way too long since we've hung out like this."
Scarlett grinned, leaning back on the couch. "Yeah, I missed you. But don't think you're getting away that easily. You owe me a complete play-by-play of everything with Mr. Scobell. I want all the details. Especially that first kiss."
Aurelie groaned, burying her face in her hands again. "Why do I even bother telling you anything?"
Scarlett laughed, pulling her into a hug. "Because you love me, and you know I'll always be your number one fan. Now, spill. No secrets."
The two of them laughed, just like they always did. No matter how much time passed, their friendship would always feel like home.
