The clock on the wall ticked softly in Aurelie's cozy living room, its hands inching toward 11:10 p.m.
The house was quiet except for the sound of the TV playing A Good Girl's Guide to Murder .
Aurelie sat curled up on the couch, a tub of cookie dough in her lap and a spoon in her hand.
The show was one of her favorites, and she found herself getting lost in the mystery and intrigue, it was her favorite book and now that it's Finally out she took advantage of it , even though she knew every twist and turn by heart.
It was comforting in a way, like visiting an old friend.
As the episode unfolded, Aurelie scooped another spoonful of cookie dough, savoring the sweet, familiar taste.
The night felt peaceful, a perfect way to unwind after a long day.
But as much as she enjoyed the solitude, a part of her longed for company.
Her thoughts drifted to Scarlett, her best friend who always knew how to make any night more fun.
Impulsively, Aurelie grabbed her phone and dialed Scarlett's number, cradling it between her shoulder and ear.
The line rang twice before Scarlett picked up, her voice cheerful despite the late hour.
"Hey, Aurelyy! What's up?"
"Hey, are you busy?" Aurelie asked, smiling at the sound of her friend's voice. "I'm just watching A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and eating cookie dough. Thought you might want to join me for a sleepover."
Scarlett laughed. "You had me at cookie dough. I'll be there in ten."
Aurelie hung up, feeling a flutter of excitement. There was something magical about impromptu sleepovers—the spontaneity, the shared laughter, and the comfort of having her best friend close by.
True to her word, Scarlett arrived ten minutes later, her hair slightly tousled and a bag slung over her shoulder. "I brought snacks," she announced in a singsong voice , holding up a bag of chips and a box of candy.
"You're the best," Aurelie said, hugging her friend tightly. "Come on, I'll start the show again "
They settled on the couch, surrounded by snacks, the glow of the TV casting soft shadows around the room.
The cookie dough tub was soon joined by Scarlett's treats, and they alternated between the sweet and savory as they watched the show, exchanging commentary and theories even though they knew the ending.
As the night wore on, their conversation drifted away from the TV to their lives, sharing dreams and worries, hopes and plans.
It was these moments that Aurelie cherished the most—the feeling of being truly seen and understood by her best friend.
Eventually, they fell asleep on the couch, wrapped in blankets, with the TV still softly playing in the background. Aurelie felt a sense of contentment as she drifted off, grateful for the friendship that made nights like these so special.
