Divinations was something that people either loved or hated. I guess it was a good thing that it was an extracurricular. Divination took a little whimsical energy that more logical people lacked. In that class you are to look and understand the unknown. The future and maybe the past.
But lefts start with the 4th Divination class 2017.
The day started out like other, there was no signs that something bad was going to happen. So that was a lie. There were millions of microscopic signs that what was going to happen was always meant to happen. They were all too blind to see it.
The class was packed with fourth years when the three upperclassmen walked in.
Everything seemed to be the exact same as it was in the first week of school. The glass balls were still placed at the center of each table, the smell of tea still clear and somehow always smelt fresh, it had the cozy feel that the ones that liked the class found love in.
Larkspur Peterson-Wilde or as known in the classroom Professor Wilde closed the door once all her students were in. "Are we ready to start class?"
"Yes!" Lilly shouted over all the other students. The way the girl loved divinations was known all around Hogwarts, and if you wanted to know the future, she was the girl to ask.
The older ginger woman with white hair growing in smiled at the class. "Good because today we are doing Capnomancy. Does anyone know what Capnomancy is?" Her eyes wondered around the class surprised to see absolutely no one's hands up. Professor Wilde had expected someone anyone to try to guess. This was her biggest blend of students filled with each house and a few years of kids.
"Smoke scrying." She began her explanation to the students. "It is what you see in the smoke as you burn something. Ask it a question before lighting the object. If it is a personal question use something belonging to the person you are asking about."
She held out her wand and owl feather in the other hand. "Shall I do a demonstration?" The divinations professor didn't give the kids a second to answer.
"Incendio." The fire shot out her wand burning the feather starting with a white curvy stream of smoke but as it burned deeper into the root of the faither smoking out a pitch black.
Lexi watched the teacher's eyes widen confused. "Professor Wilde, what did you ask?"
"Just how today was going to go."
"And?" The Granger girl asked because that last part didn't look too good. Lexi would say it looked dark, grim even.
The professor looked her over. "It wanted to keep it's secrets."
That confused the girl even more so. The future could keep secrets? She wouldn't say she was into or completely believed in the art of divinations but to spend your life learning insight to the future and saying it wouldn't tell you. That sounded absolutely crazy.
"Secrets?" Salvatore questioned.
Lilly was always willing to defend her favorite teacher. "Babe, I have seen you talk to stars. Do they answer?" The Gryffindor girl looked at the boy behind her. "Yeah, I didn't think so."
Salvatore was stuck to his seat, Lilly White had just called him babe. The girl had called him Babe, and did she call everyone a pet name, but never once had he heard call someone babe. The Nott boy liked it, he felt special. The boy didn't even catch onto the rest of her words internally freaking out.
"That wasn't very nice." Her best friend said on the other side of her table.
Lilly flipped her hair over her shoulder and made a fake kiss at the girl. "Medow baby, you love it."
The curly haired blonde turned her focus back to the teacher a small hint of a blush on her cheeks but nowhere near compared to the Nott boy's.
"You can ask the question in your head or out loud. The answer is stronger when you say it." She twisted the bird skull on her necklace watching over everything. "I want you to pay attention to the color, of how long it lasts in the air, and what shapes it forms." Professor Wilde placed down a few lighting sticks. "I don't want you to use your wand the first time it can be uncomfortable that way. Come pick them up."
Jones Scamander Jr. Had offered themself up to hand out the light able sticks and Bella two being the Teachers assistant, as the two begun walking back to their seats to pass them out was when all the commotion happened.
"Can we stop bad things from happening?" The two fifth years asked together. Medow was holding the paper with a Hogwarts crest on it and Lilly her wand out.
"Insentio!"
Before she could finish two Slytherins jumped out of their seats coming closer to the two.
"That's the wrong spell!" Nova Lovegood yelled.
Ace followed his cousin panic in his steps. "You didn't say it-"
The paper busted into flame burning Medow's hand until she couldn't take the few seconds of heat in a green and black smoke. The burning paper landed on the Glass ball exploding outwardly and sparking a light translucent blue.
Once the smoke cleared out the surrounding students had disappeared.
"Class is over!" Larkspur Peterson-Wilde yelled at the remaining kids. "Please go to the hospital wing if the glass got you." She counted each student calling out their names in her head 18.
She was going to be in so much trouble. 18 out of 26 kids. No this couldn't be happening they were already taking a chance on her and she let this happen?
Alain Malfoy, Isabella White, Jones Scamander jr., Lexi Granger, Lilly White, Medow Green, Nova Lovegood, and Salvatore Nott.
I hope you like it ~ xoxo reese
