Lya is, in many ways, similar to Bart. She has severe anger issues, a problem with authority, and enough pent up aggression to take down the government herself. However, she is a pretty kind person underneath her rough exterior.
Backstory:
Lya Elyna Monique Ines de Champlain was born to Michel Louis Francois de Champlain and Elyna Rochelle Marie de Champlain on November 17, 1784. She was an only child. Due to this, she was often spoiled by her parents.
Lya had a relatively normal childhood for an 18th century noble child. However, things do happen, and her mother died of consumption when she was ten years old, on April 22, 1795. Her father would remarry Bernadette de Rosette two weeks later.
Bernadette didn't get along with her stepdaughter. Nor did Lya get along with her stepmother. She thought is was disrespectful for her father to remarry so soon after the death of her mother.
This relationship would be short lived, however. On May 30, 1796, Bernadette would be beheaded. In a letter to her aunt, Lya would write, "the bitch got what she deserved." This goes to show the relationship between Lya and her stepmother.
In 1798, she would meet a boy. Lafayette's bastard son, Bartholomew d'Hunolstein. He was a scruffy little bad boy, and she became infatuated.
Well, long story short, they started talking and ended up in bed. After a night of passionate lovemaking, the two realized they weren't attracted to one another. Bart realized he liked men, and Lya found she liked women. Despite this, the two would be friends to the end.
It was the next month that Lya figured out she was pregnant. And Bart was the father.
Being only 15 and 14, respectively, and unmarried, neither were ready to be parents. Nor did they want to marry someone they didn't love. And, pregnant with his child or not, there was no way Lya's family would let her marry him. So they kept the pregnancy secret, up until the birth.
Sadly, during Lya's pregnancy, Bart's mother died. On June 26, 1798, Aglae died, devastating her children. Bart swore to name his and Lya's child after Aglae.
Finally, on September 17, 1798, Andrew Philippe Aristide Gabriel was born. He was one month premature and the spitting image of his father.
Upon finding out his daughter had not only had sex outside of marriage, but had given birth to Lafayette's bastard son's bastard son, Lya's father told her to get out. Thus, she moved in with the d'Hunolstein family. There she befriended Bart's little sister, Luci.
Lya lived happily with the d'Hunolstein family. She and her son spent hours upon hours with Luci. However, that all changed in 1801.
Just ten days after her birthday, Luci died of malaria. The whole family was devastated. Emile stopped taking care of himself, Bart ran off drinking and smoking and whoring, and Lya stopped speaking. She locked herself away in her room, only coming out to take care of Andrew.
About a week before Andrew's birthday, Lya finally calmed down somewhat. She was ready to celebrate and he happy. Then, on September 17, 1801, Bart died of scarlet fever. He should've lived, but he just...gave up on life. Emile and Lya both fell into deeper depressions.
Finally, on April 24, 1802, Lya took Andrew and left. She couldn't stand staying there any more. To make money, she became a prostitute.
She and Andrew lived together for a few more years. Until September 18, 1805.
Yvette, Bart's aunt, had found her address and came to see her. Instead of finding Lya alive and well, she found her dead, throat slashed, arms and feet missing. Andrew was also missing. To this day, no one knows what happened to him.
