personality. ━━ Yua likes to preserve her humanity. The general public likes to make outlandish assumptions about her, marking her as inhuman and incapable of affection or emotions–like she's nothing more than computer parts. Yua is far from that. Underneath, she's primarily wire–artificial skin, steel bones, fake cartilage, cold muscle–but she's so much more than those parts.

Yua, at her core, is just a giant child. Girlish and insecure, always craving validation, always seeking out comfort wherever she can get it. She longs to make authentic connections and friendships with others, she wants nothing more than to have a positive impact on people's lives–wants to be seen as the intelligent individual she is and not the rich momma's girl that journalists see. Because of the constant yearning for validation from strangers, Yua follows the rules pretty strictly, in fear of disappointing anyone and everyone. She's a people–pleaser, a people–follower, she's that ugly duckling trying her absolute best to fit underneath her father's wing.

After spending most of her life coddled by her parents as a juvenile, Yua has no idea how to properly speak to other people her age. She doesn't know internet trends or niche jokes, she doesn't understand dating or how to properly make friends, and it doesn't help that her parents are equally, if not more, awkward than she is. But... Yua truly, honestly, full-heartedly tries. She's extremely friendly, always saying yes to any requests even when there's some not-so-pure intentions behind it, she's always trying to put herself out there. Heck, she comes off as hyper-feminine just so that she won't be viewed as unapproachable. The important thing is that she tries. A lot of the time, though, she'll be overcome with anxiety and overthink scenarios and just go completely nonverbal, shrinking back to let the others handle it for her, but she's working on that. Trying to find that confidence, to find her voice, and to allow herself to say no.

Much like her comrades on Team Pistil, Yua is extremely intelligent. After all, she was an Aerospace Engineering major. Of course, she had to take aerodynamics, flight dynamics, physics, every calculus and chemistry class you can think of, aircraft design, and so much more that it's a miracle she's still not brain-dead. Her fighting isn't the best, but good enough to keep up with the rest of the team. Yua would rather not think about hurting or sparing with her fellow teammates–what if she accidentally hurts them and it ends up on the news? She could be easily framed, easily kicked off the team, shunned by society, thrown away like trash. Spiraling. That's what she's great at.

childhood. ━━ Type 2 spinal muscular atrophy–otherwise known as Dubowitz disease. A neuromuscular disorder that causes certain muscles to become weak and waste away. It involves the loss of a specific type of nerve cell in your spinal cord called anterior horn cells. And unfortunately for young Yua, she was diagnosed with SMA type 2 by the time she was 10 months old, affecting her legs and parts of her arms. While most children may be able to live until 25, Yua had extreme respiratory issues, which were deadly in the case of SMA. Her mother, an employee working under various official JIAN scientists and publicists, had asked her co-workers to help her with her dying child, begging them to use their knowledge of technological bodily enhancements to save her–nobody had to know. It started small–just her lungs were replaced because she was far too young to work on any other organ. For a while, that kept Yua stable, but then it was her legs when she was barely three years old. Then came the artificial arms at six. Then her spine at ten, most of her back at twelve, never quite reaching her chest or throat. At first, Yua's mother was doing it to save her only daughter. After some time, it became too much to bear. She was an overbearing mother, completely overlooking Yua's humanity and aiming to completely transform her daughter. Yua's father protested, and the two would fight when Yua was young, and eventually, they divorced before she was thirteen.
coming of age. ━━ Yua did not have a period. She did not understand what it was, or how it could happen, all she knew was that she didn't have it–much to her father's relief, who she decided to live with. Yua was homeschooled throughout primary school, only deciding to go to High School her last two years (much to her parent's disdain, but she put her foot down). By the time she went into High School, some of the artificial skin had reached the surface of her throat, not quite human–looking, but not quite robot-looking. It was a hard lesson for Yua to learn, but she was extensively bullied in High School for being unique-looking–a shaved head due to surgery, parts of her skin had vague cyborg–like imprints, her movements and speech were awkward, and overall, she was just... different. She decided to take night classes instead. Jokes on those bullies, though–Yua was valedictorian. Over time, she had some identity crises–is she even real anymore? Everything about her was artificial? Can she even have kids? Weekends at her mother's house were silent. She hated her.
adulthood. ━━ University was rough. It was socially just like High School, except with harder classes. But... Yua enjoyed it a lot more than she originally anticipated. She found a passion in Aerospace Engineering and aced all her classes–ultimately getting scouted around her second year of University. Rumors flew around that it was due to her mother's status at the JIAN company, but Yua hoped and prayed it wasn't because of that. She gladly entered the program despite her father's protests–saying it was too dangerous for her to pilot one of those things, but Yua's stubborn. And she wanted to do this. Graduated from the Student Piloting Program amazingly, proved herself worthy, and came back home.
