EXTRACT FROM EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE INTERNET'S NEW SWEETHEARTS: ADELAIDE BROWN & JOSEPH MORGAN
By: Maya Singer
Photography by: Inez and Vinoodh
January 13th, 2015 Issue 01
Interviewer: First of all, let me tell you how excited I am to be sat here with the two of you. My daughter is the biggest Klaitlyn shipper and when she heard I'd be interviewing you two, she asked me to get this signed for her, please.
Adelaide: Aww it's a Klaitlyn hoodie, how adorable is that?
Joseph: What's her name?
Interviewer: Anne.
Adelaide: That's a beautiful name. here, you can be her hero now.
Interviewer: Thank you for being such good sports, this means a lot.
Joseph: Of course, anything for our biggest shipper.
Interviewer: Yeah well, moving on to our actual interview- 2015 is here and I think it's safe to say you both had a good start to it.
Adelaide: Oh yeah, definitely. Being home after so long was incredibly magical and gifting.
Interviewer: And on the scale of 1-10, how nerve-wrecking was it to meet the family, Joseph? Or how nervous were you to take him home to meet the family, Adelaide?
Joseph: Her family is definitely very intimidating, so it's safe to say I was close to wetting my pants out of nervousness.
Adelaide: What? That's not true! My family can be many things but intimidating isn't one of them. In fact, my mom hugged him right at the airport, as soon as we landed in Sydney. That's not 'intimidating' they were to him.
Joseph: No, I mean, Momma Brown is a sweetheart for sure. But your cousins are scary. The first two days at the wedding, I just got dirty looks that said, "if you hurt her, we'll bury you alive."
Adelaide: And they will.
Joseph: What?
Adelaide: I'm joking!...maybe. Yeah no, I'm joking.
Interviewer: So, it's safe to say everyone loved Joseph?
Adelaide: What's not to love? He's adorable.
Joseph: Really? That's what you're gonna call me before the internet? Adorable?
Adelaide: You are!
Joseph: Whatever.
Interviewer: Now, Joseph mentioned a wedding. Tell us more about that.
Adelaide: Oh well, it was my cousin, Soph's wedding. Growing up, her and I were always the closest and the goofiest. Of course, I couldn't ditch her wedding and it was the perfect excuse to fly back home and introduce Joseph to everyone. So, we cleared our schedules, attended the wedding, stayed for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's all at once. Again, like I said, it was truly magical.
Joseph: We enjoyed every second of it.
Interviewer: You sure did, with sharing all of Adelaide's old pictures on the internet and whatnot.
Joseph: Oh please, let us not bring that up again. I am yet to hear the end of it.
Adelaide: You'll never hear the end of it. I still can't believe you ganged up with my family against me.
Interview: You can pay him back for it when you get your hands on his photo albums.
Joseph: Don't give her ideas.
Adelaide: Too late. That's the plan now. Thank you!
Interview: Circling back to New Year's, we can't help but talk about the adorable pictures you both shared. The place looked magical. Where was it?
Adelaide: it was this open-ground on the edge of town, about a 3-hour drive from our home. Every year, people gather there with their families and light lanterns with wishes written on them. It's like an entire day-long experience.
Joseph: It was a "once-in-a-lifetime" kind of experience, for sure. I'll never forget that view.
Interviewer: And you put a beautiful message on your lantern too, didn't you?
Adelaide: We did. It was Joseph's idea and I think it was such a sweet thing to do for our first New Year's. Of course, my brother thought it was too cutesy.
Joseph: We need to find Will a girlfriend and see what he has to say then.
Adelaide: He'd still be complaining.
Interviewer: Were there any New Year's Resolutions from you two?
Joseph: Just live this year to the fullest and make more and more memories with each other.
Adelaide: Have the time of our lives. Definitely that. Oh, and maybe an impromptu trip of sorts.
Interviewer: And does "living life to the fullest" include any wedding bells? I'm sorry, I had to ask for the sake of the fans.
Adelaide: Oh come on, we just started! People cannot seriously be springing this up on us already!
Interviewer: But they are. Whether it was for Claire's joke on your Instagram post or the spies all over Twitter, people really need some confirmation on this.
Joseph: Remind me to have a word with Claire after this.
Adelaide: You and me both. Anyway, I know what you're talking about and honestly, people couldn't have been more off about this. The supposed 'ring' that everyone has been talking about is my grandmas. When she passed away, she left her things for her grandkids and since I haven't been back home in over 5 years or so, I never got to have it until now. So mom brought it out for me when I went back this time. It's not a Tiffany and Co. It's vintage from the 1920s.
Interviewer: So, it's a sentimental family heirloom.
Adelaide: Yes, definitely. Joseph did get me a beautiful snowflake necklace a while back and for Christmas, he got me matching earrings to it. So, if people want to make a big deal about something, make a big deal about that.
Interviewer: The snowflake is some symbolistic piece to you two, is it?
Adelaide: It is.
Interviewer: Do we get to know why?
Joseph: Well, I like to think that just like each snowflake is unique, everyone is as well. And Addy, well she's one of a kind. Thus, the nickname Snowflake just stuck around.
Interviewer: That's so heartfelt.
Adelaide: I know right. I'm taking this necklace to the grave with me.
Interviewer: Or you cloud turn it into a family heirloom of your own.
Adelaide: Maybe.
Interviewer: Well, during the shoot, you two talked about how tough it can get to have some privacy while being in the public eye. Is this another example of how it can get?
Joseph: It can get worse. But then again, we have very considerate fans who respect our choices. Hopefully, it stays that way in the future.
Adelaide: Yeah, we're thankful for all the love and support we've always been given. But sometimes, work and being who we are just becomes too much.
Interviewer: How tough can the long-distance get with you shooting for Reign and Joseph being here to shoot the Originals?
Adelaide: Last time, I was away for 6 months and it's safe to say I was miserable. The only thing keeping me going were my friends- Rachel, Torrance, Toby, Caitlyn and everyone else...they really make everything worth it.
Joseph: Oh yeah, same here. But at the end of the day, it's our job. We cannot not do it, even when things get tough.
Interviewer: We sure hope things only get better for the both of you. After so many years of yearning from the fans, to have you two finally get to be Full-Time Lovers from Part-Time ones now, it really is a beautiful journey we all got to witness you go through and we couldn't have been happier.
Adelaide: Thank you, that means so much to us.
Joseph: Even when the fans weren't the only ones yearning, it's been an experience I wouldn't change anything for. I'm really thankful to have her by my side, now and forever.
Interviewer: Beautifully said. Well, once again, thank you so much for your time. It was wonderful to have this sit-down with you both. Let's end this on a beautiful note with a message for your fans, shall we?
Adelaide: They already know what they mean to us. But again, thanks for being the most precious bunch and for always loving us so much. We'd be nothing without your support.
Joseph: And we're forever thankful for everything you guys do for us. We love you all so much. Happy New Year, may this year bring the best of all for you guys.
Adelaide: WE LOVE YOU ALL!
Interviewer: Wonderful.
