"Are you guys out yet or not?" Torrance's voice echoes through the call as Adelaide and Joseph drive towards their destination.

"Yeah yeah, we're on our way," Adelaide assures.

"You're late, extremely late. We've been waiting for half an hour," Torrance complains as Adelaide rolls her eyes at him.

"Fashionably late, though," she winks through the call as Joseph chuckles at her words.

"Yep, you look beautiful, Addy!" Alyssa chimes in.

"So do you, Lyss."

"Ladies, save the pleasantries for when we get there?" Joseph comments as Adelaide glares at him.

"Oh, I totally agree, JoMo. Get here quicker, please or we're ditching you two," Torrance threatens before hanging up the call.

"You know this is all your fault, right?" Adelaide asks rhetorically as Joseph frowns at her words.

"What? How is this my fault? You're the one who took so much time to get ready."

"But you got to my place late," Adelaide states.

"And I still had to wait an hour before you finished getting ready," joseph retorts as Adelaide glares at him.

"You were supposed to get there at 10, you showed up at 10:35. 35 minutes late, Jo," she says, implying on the '35 minutes'.

"And I still wai-" he trails off, seeing the look of Adelaide's face, daring him to finish his sentence, "you know what? Yeah, totally my fault. I'll get there at 9:45 the next time, just to be on the safe side," he sighs.

"Hm, you better."

"Also, I have a dinner planned for us after the event," Joseph informs as Adelaide turns back to look at him with a raised brow.

"What? Like a victory party if I win?" she asks as he nods, "and what if I lose?"

"Then take it as a consolation party. I'm just trying to spend more time with you before you leave, okay?" he sighs as Adelaide's face softens at his words.

"I wish I didn't have to leave," she says sadly as Joseph nods.

"Yeah, me too. But it's work."

"I'll be back before you know it, though," she states in a consoling manner.

"I'll notice every second of every day you're not here, Del. But yes, you'll be back in 2 months, and that's better than you going away for half a year at once," he retorts.

"And we'll talk everyday, right?" Adelaide quizzes in a paranoid manner, "you know with the time zones and everything?"

"We'll make it work. You don't have to worry about time zones, I'm answering whenever you call- whether it's 2AM or 2PM, I don't care," Joseph reassures.

"You say that now," Adelaide sighs, "but I'm still asking for too much with all this."

"Hey no," Joseph cuts her off, stealing a glimpse at her before looking back at the road, "you're never asking for too much. Not to me, okay? I'd do it all for you, whether you asked or not," he tells her in a sincere voice as Adelaide nods.

"Hey, we'll be fine, I swear," Joseph assures as the car comes to a stop, "I'm not letting anything get in the way with us. Now come one, we've got an event to attend," he says before walking out of the car and holding the door open for Adelaide, greeting her with a smile as they walk inside, hand-in-hand.

"There you guys are, took you long enough," Torrance speaks up as Adelaide and Joseph walk over to them, hugging both him and Alyssa in greeting.

"Well, we're here now and you're the one stalling," Adelaide retorts as the four walk into the event together.

The paparazzi go crazy as soon as they spot Adelaide and Joseph together, having not expected them to be attending a red carpet event together. Torrance, Alyssa, Adelaide and Joseph pose for a few pictures together before deciding to get separate couple pictures as well as solos.

Needless to say, Joseph and Adelaide avoid the million questions thrown at them about whether they were officially together, how long they've been together, are they getting married, what about their exes, what did this mean for their shows etc.

"Pheww, that was a lot," Adelaide says as they finally enter the venue and get past the prying paps.

"It's alright, you two did great," Torrance assures, patting Joseph's back in encouragement as Alyssa nods, "now, you two go ahead. We boys will come find you in a bit."

"Toor, no," she warns, knowing what he might be up to.

"What? I'm just saying you two should wander around while we go get you drinks like the gentlemen we are," he shrugs innocently as Adelaide glares at him.

"Del, it's fine. I'll come find you in a minute," Joseph assures as Adelaide shares a worried look with him before nodding hesitantly.

"What is your boyfriend up to?" Adelaide grunts as she and Alyssa walk away.

"Nothing, I swear!" Torrance yells out, having heard her words, causing the girls to roll their eyes at him and the other guests' attention to turn to him disapprovingly.

"So," Joseph trails off as they walk to the bar, waiting for Torrance's lecture to start.

"Man, relax. I'm not going to lecture you, okay? I'm guessing Ian and the others already did that for me," he jokes, "but I am going to tell you this- Addy is a very special girl, which I'm sure you're aware of. And regardless of whatever friendship I share with Toby, I always knew they weren't going to last. It just wasn't my place to comment on it. I might've only known her for 2 years but she's become my best friend, even like a sister to me and I want her happiness above all. Unsurprisingly enough, it's you who's going to be the one keeping her happy.

"Unsurprisingly?" Joseph asks with a raised brow.

"Oh please," Torrance scoffs, "even a blind person could be able to see how you always looked at her, how you always put her first and listened to her when no one else did. I know love when I see it. I'm honestly surprised your TVD friends didn't figure it out by your obviousness."

"Daniel did," Joseph replies, "and the others...I guess they began to overlook it after a few years, trying not to read too much into it."

Torrance nods, "well, you're here now. With her. And she's the happiest I've seen her in the two years I've known her. All I wanted to tell you was that now that you've got her, don't.ever.treat.her.the.shitty.way.her.exes.did. She deserves better but she always thinks she doesn't. she's paranoid and lets the paranoia get to the best of her, so don't give up on her, ever. You guys have the potential to make it to the end, and I'm sure you will. But just...hold onto each other and have each other's back, okay? I'm not going to even try to tell you how to do it, because you've known her way longer than I have and know her inside-out, so just...give her the happiness she deserves, man."

Joseph smiles at him with a nod, "I will," he tells Torrance sincerely, "and I'm just happy seeing that even when she's going to be away from here...she's got someone looking out for her at all times. She's lucky to have you."

"Rightt," Torrance sighs as the bartender passes them four glasses, "this was too sappy for me. Good that it's over. We can return to our ladies now, get drunk and have fun," he jokes.

"You remind me so much of Daniel," Joseph laughs as they walk back into the crowd.

"Addy tells me that all the time. I need to meet this Daniel guy," Torrance says as they find Adelaide and Alyssa gossiping about something, but they instantly stop talking when they spot the guys.

"What were you two talking about?" Torrance asks with narrowed eyes as Adelaide and Alyssa exchange a sly look.

"Nothing, thanks for this," Alyssa says, motioning to the drinks.

"What did you two talk about?" Adelaide asked with a raised brow as Joseph takes the seat next to her and wraps his arms around her, naturally.

"Torrance wants to meet Daniel," Joseph tells her.

"Huh? Daniel as in DG? Why?"

"Because you keep saying I remind you of him and I want to see who my competition is," Torrance jokes.

"If you're worried about competition, you'll have to get to know about 50 more people you need to fight with," Adelaide teases as Torrance huffs and the other two laugh.

"But Joseph's still No. 1, right?" Alyssa smirks as Adelaide glares at her.

"Of course he is, hon'. Mr Angel Eyes and all," Torrance chimes in as Adelaide groans in embarrassment, burying her face in Joseph's chest as the three laugh at her.

"I don't think I like you guys becoming such good friends anymore," Adelaide jokes, "I see an endless amount of embarrassment for me."

"Oh, for sure, Addy. It's our job," Torrance jokes as the lights all go out and the host appears, indicating the beginning of the event.

Unfortunately enough, Adelaide did not win the night. But that didn't bring her down as she, accompanied by Torrance, Alyssa and Joseph partied the night away, gossiping and having a lot of fun before Joseph and Addy left for their now, 'Consolation dinner'.

"This is so fancy," Adelaide comments as they sip on their wine, waiting for their order to arrive.

"You don't like it?" Joseph quizzes.

"No, of course I do. I'm just saying it's fancy, in a good way."

"What do you usually do after events then?" Joseph inquires, wanting to make a mental note for the future.

"Unless we're going out as a group, I usually go home and order a lot of junk. Maybe ask Rachie, Pheebs, Seb or Ben to come over as we watch trash movies past midnight and then fall asleep on the couch," Adelaide answers.

"And is that what you want to do for your birthday too?"

"Oh, I forgot about that. Well, I don't know, I kinda want just us to go out but I also don't want to be the friend who starts ditching the group as soon as she starts dating," Adelaide shrugs.

"We're the same group, Del. And I don't want to be that friend either, but I kind of already talked to everyone and I was hoping you'd agree to a day-long date with me that day," Joseph informs with a sheepish smile.

"Wait what? When did you talk to them? You guys have a GC without me?" Adelaide mock-gasps, "and do you guys talk shit about me behind my back on there?"

Joseph rolls his eyes at her antics before answering, "no, I asked them the day the guys were at my place. And Phoebe told me the girls are okay too, so...what do you say?"

"What do you have planned?"

"A lot. And it's a surprise so no, your puppy eyes aren't going to work on me this time," he says as Adelaide frowns.

"I wasn't doing my puppy eyes," she whines.

"Sure you weren't," Joseph rolls his eyes at her.

"Ugh fine, if you insist," Adelaide grins, "I will go on a date with you on my birthday. But you should know that you can't deny me of anything on my birthday, okay? It's a rule. So, if I want like...three tubs of ice cream in one sitting, you can't say 'no' to me," she warns.

"It's going to be tough, but I'll make it work. If you want a sugar overdose for yourself, I can't say no. thinking of it, actually it'll be good for me. You'll get so sick the next day that you'll miss your flight and end up staying back," Joseph jokes as Adelaide reaches out to slightly nudge him.

"You're evil."

"And you're beautiful," Joseph retorts as Adelaide blushes while trying to glare at him, which eventually turns into a big smile.

The two then continue to bask in each other's presence as they continue on with their date.

"Am I seeing you before the 9th?" Joseph asks as the two finally reach the driveway of Adelaide's house.

"If you want to," she replies with a smirk.

"You know I want to," Joseph says with narrowed eyes as Adelaide chuckles.

"The Guardians of  the Galaxy movie just came out two days ago," she tells him, "and I got Zoe to get me a special blue-ray tape already, wanna watch that at home tomorrow?"

"They gave you a special blue-ray tape that easily?" Joseph asks with a raised brow.

"Well, almost everyone on the cast has known me for a long time now. And I'm already talking to Kevin Feige about one of their future projects, so you could call is a favor," she shrugs as Joseph nods in understanding.

"Alright, tomorrow. At 7?"

"Sure," Adelaide agrees, "I'll see you then, Jo. Drive safe," she says before standing on her tiptoes and placing a small kiss on his cheek before walking back into her house with a smile.

Outside the house, Joseph too wears a big smile on his face as he walks back to his car and drives off. Maybe they could work, even with the distance. It had to work. He wasn't going to give up on her. Ever. He loved her and he'd wait for her to love her back, however long it took. And when she did love him back...it'd be them against the world. Just them.
