three weeks ago

Chris is genuinely so competitive when it comes to playing lacrosse, even if it is just a couple hours of practice. it's his favorite sport, his happy and safe place even since it's such an enjoyable distraction from any issues he's dealing with.

beads of sweat drip down his forehead and he huffs loudly while sitting on the bleachers with a cold bottle of water in his hand. he grabs onto the bottom of his lacrosse shirt, using it to wipe down the sweat and to also show off his toned stomach to the cheerleaders that are practicing in front of him. a smirk grows on his face as he shoots them a wave being the player that he is.

as he releases the shirt from his grip, noah–one of his teammates–jumps over the fence to take a seat next to chris. even compared to chris, noah talks to way too many girls, even bragging at times how he hooked up with them, which is why chris' face immediately scrunches up as his 'friend' dabs him up.

noah sits down next to chris, winking at the cheerleaders before he clears his throat. "yo bro, i gotta talk to you about some shit," his tone is serious, making chris' eyebrows furrow. he never talks to chris unless it's about girls or lacrosse, seeing as how he can barely even tolerate noah. "it's about miks."

the nickname that he created for her makes chris' jaw tense, visibly showing his annoyance towards the mention of her. "she doesn't like when people call her that," a lie is the only thing chris says, with his tone sharp as he internally knows that it's mikayla loves it.

"yeah whatever," noah waves his hand in the air as he clearly isn't interested in whatever chris has to say. "do me a solid and give me her number."

the grip that chris has on his water bottle tightens intensely and he rolls his eyes, frustrated at noah. obviously he's fully aware that there are multiple guys chasing after mikayla without her even knowing, but he can't help but be jealous at the fact. chris has absolutely zero feelings towards mikayla, with her basically being his little sister, which is why everything he's going to do is to protect her.

he purses his lips, thinking about a lie before shaking his head. "she's got a boyfriend. sorry man," chris sucks air through his teeth with a fake frown on his face but on the inside he's genuinely kicking his feet and giggling right now. "better luck next time though," he pats noah on the back with a tone of false sympathy.

noah kisses his teeth and shakes his head, refusing to believe that the one of the girls he's had his eye on isn't single. "nah fuck him, i'm literally noah, any girl is lucky to hook up with me," he chuckles and chris side eyes him. "just slide the number bro."

"dude no," chris firmly says and noah just rolls his eyes at his stinginess. "nate'll kill me so just leave miks alone, yeah?" all noah can do is sigh before he stands up from the bleachers to jog towards cheerleaders without even saying goodbye. and the fact that this is not the first time someone's come up to him asking about mikayla just makes everything worse, so now all chris can try think about is some sort of solution to this problem.
