IRL ! ; christopher's pov
IT'S BEEN A couple days since chris first found out that mars has gone missing, the realization that she could be in danger slowly eating him alive. he's fully aware that she's a liar and a cheater, but chris genuinely loves mars as he'll never stop, especially because of how kind her soul is. mars' touch brought such a warmth to chris' body and the fact that there's a possibility that something bad happened to her just makes him feel ill.
he yearns for mars, to have another conversation with her, just one more. his heart aches for her, missing the way her lips felt on his, or craving how mars used to run her hand through his hair, the acrylic nails she always has freshly done giving him a feeling of comfort.
chris huffs, squeezing his eyes shut as he lays on the bed of his dorm room, fighting the urge to let his tears fall. he isn't a crier, he isn't sensitive, he just misses his girlfriend, or whatever he's supposed to call her now. chris thickly swallows his sadness and opens his eyes, the vision of his ceiling becoming an all too familiar sight because ever since the night he got that text from mars' father, he's barely left his room; he only really leaves the comfort of his shared dorm whenever he's hungry or craving a pepsi.
while his friends all go to class, chris just lays in bed and listens to the playlist he made for mars. chris finds himself pathetic honestly, hung up on the girl who cheated on him without an inch of remorse for how it might affect him, but he just misses her.
chris hasn't been texting his friends like how he normally does, instead choosing to let their imaginations run wild as to what he could be doing all day. he doesn't even respond to his brothers, definitely worrying them.
the only person chris really texts is mars' father, hoping that he can fill the void in his heart with a bunch of texts about mars being safe and sound. after all, chris only found out about mars that night with valentine after her father spammed his phone with texts about how mars hasn't been home or to any of her classes.
that gave him an unsettling feeling in his stomach, causing chris to shoot up from his seated position on the concrete and run back into the fraternity house. of course chris muttered a quiet 'thanks' to valentine for finding his wallet before leaving her, but there was only one thing he was worried about and that was mars. he felt kinda bad that he left her so suddenly, but he couldn't stay with her while his mind ran through possibilities about what happened to his girlfriend.
'girlfriend', he thinks to himself, scoffing at the use of the term and the fact that he simply cannot stop using it when referring to her. it's as if mars would rather throw their whole relationship down the drain just to hook up with one of his friends, a 'real bitchy move' in nick's words. but chris isn't an evil person, which is why he's hoping that she's okay and not dead in a ditch somewhere.
chris hears a couple knocks on his door but he just rolls his eyes and huffs as a response, hoping that whoever it is will just leave. he's not in the mood to speak to anybody right now, closing his eyes, but the knocking continues. "what!" he yells as a response, watching the door handle turn before it flies open.
"hey babe," raven mumbles the affectionate nickname with a smile, not in a romantic way because she calls everybody babe; that's just raven. "thought i'd check up on you," she whispers while leaning against the wall, running her fingers through her ginger waves.
one thing about raven is that she loves her friends and she always will. despite her somewhat condescending and self absorbed attitude, she only puts her friend group first above anybody else because that's the type of person that she is.
chris leans up slightly, using his elbows to prop his body up. he presses his lips together because chris really didn't want to talk to anybody today, but he's not going to shut one of his best friends out. "i'm good," he blatantly lies through his teeth but raven frowns out his words.
"no, chris, you're not 'good'," raven mutters, her voice laced with sympathy and chris honestly fights the urge to cry. raven steps into his room, closing the door behind her before she makes her way to the edge of his bed, taking a seat, "she's fine, okay?"
chris thickly swallows while slowly nodding his head, but then he thinks about how close mars and raven are, a thought suddenly popping into his head. "did you know she was cheating on me?" chris blurts out, the words leaving his lips like vomit.
raven pauses, her lips parting as she blankly stares at him. her eyebrows knit together as pure silence envelopes them like an uncomfortable blanket. "what..." she trails off, falling quiet as if it's the most unbelievable thing ever. "she...she cheated on you?" her lips downturn as chris slowly nods at the unfortunate reality he's being forced to face. "i had no idea chris, honest," she places her hand on his leg.
"whatever," chris says through a scoff but he's genuinely hurt, somehow managing to hide it through his tone of voice. "isn't there a party tonight, why are you even here?" he snaps at her and the party animal lifestyle she chooses to have. chris didn't purposely mean to sound harsh, but he's not exactly in the mood to act like his life is all sunshine and rainbows.
raven's upper lip lifts into a sneer and she retracts her hand away from his clothed leg. "no you dick, i came to check on you," she exclaims with furrowed eyebrows. "don't get all sassy with me chris, seriously," raven warns him and he immediately shuts his mouth, knowing how she gets sometimes. "i also came to tell you...mr mayfield wants to put out a search party at central park."
chris' eyes widen at raven's words, not sure how to react. "because that was the last place she was," chris adds on as she slowly nods her head. "have they found her phone yet?" chris questions, knowing that raven's aware of everything that's going on. after all, her father and mars' father are close, almost brothers.
"not yet," raven huffs, harshly pulling air between her teeth. "it's tomorrow night, are...you gonna...come..?" she asks but chris blinks repeatedly at her, not sure if he's ready to fully process that something bad could've happened to her. "she cheated, i know that know, but—"
"i'll be there," chris immediately cuts her off, pushing his lips into a thin line as raven nods her head. he really doesn't want to go, but it'll honestly look bad on his side. but at least chris will be able to find some comfort in whatever happens tomorrow, because somebody did something to mars, and he needs to get his answers.
; valentine's pov
TINTED BLUE MOONLIGHT pours through valentine's dorm room windows, bouncing off of her mirror as she sits at her new vanity. there's a crisp breeze that enters through the open window, wrapping her in a cold, uncomfortable blanket as her reflection stares back at her. the only thing she can listen to is pure silence while she frowns at how she looks right now.
valentine's skin is practically breaking out, her hair is dull and lifeless and she feels like one of those girls normal girls. but of course, the cause of this sudden change in her appearance is due to christopher owen sturniolo.
he hasn't posted on instagram since he found out mars is missing, he hasn't been around campus, at football practice, at the library or anywhere that he would typically be. valentine's had no way of keeping track of him, sending shivers down her spine as well as the memories of him simply leaving her outside of his frat house.
her jaw tightens as she picks up her bottle of foundation, a medium shade that normally matches her skin tone, except for right now. valentine unscrews the lid, squeezing the makeup into the palm of her hand while she holds back tears at the fact that chris is pretending like she doesn't exist. valentine's jaw trembles slightly while her eyes start to water as she begins rubbing the foundation against her smooth skin.
she feels horrible but valentine's just trying to look like she hasn't been spending the past few days awake with the thought of chris haunting her. val's heart craves for him, for his touch, or to reenact the short lived moment they shared that night she returned his wallet. the street lights, the quiet atmosphere, the perfect setting for them to share a special moment.
val's not really sure what she was expecting because it's not like chris was supposed to fall on his knees and beg to be hers after finding out that his girlfriend is missing. she drags her foundation covered hand down her face before resting it on her thigh.
suddenly the door creaks open and valentine wipes her face to blend the uneven foundation caked on her skin, hoping that it's just her roommate. she sniffles, rotating and her eyes lock with a sophie—who's definitely drunk judging by the way she's giggling at nothing—while her arm is thrown over aurora's shoulder. "hey val, mind helping me?" rora awkwardly chuckles and valentine shoots up from her seat, rushing to her new friend.
the two of them guide sophie to her bed as she chooses to giggle like a child. she gasps, "val!" sophie yells, the smell of alcohol lingering in her breath. she stretches her neck to kiss valentine on the cheek as they place her down on her bed. "val and rory...my besties!" she shouts through a giggle, a dimpled grin on her face.
valentine's fully aware that sophie's drunk, but the fact that she referred to val as her 'bestie' is enough to put a small smile on her face. aurora brushes her fringe from out of her face as she rests her hands in her hips. "holy fuck," she breathes out through a dry chuckle, glancing at val. "thanks for helping, she just needs to sober up for the search party tomorrow."
val's face quickly crinkles with confusion as she awkwardly smiles, genuinely lost at aurora's words. "you know, the search party for mars?" aurora continues while narrowing her eyes at valentine. "mr mayfield organized it and everything—" her voice turns into muffled noise while the color drains from valentine's eyes.
her jaw clenches as she tries to hide the fact that she's definitely worried and fighting the urge to scream. "cool!" valentine forces out. but it's not great. none of this is great, because now valentine has even more shit to worry about.
