Side Story 1
(A/N: I feel like I haven't done enough from Harry's perspective. Like how he felt about finding out that he's a wizard and most importantly, how he came to feel like Lyra was 'his star'. I noticed this only while re-reading the whole thing from a reader's perspective. What I wanted to convey wasn't fully conveyed, I guess. So, I decided to write this as a Side Story.
As most of the things are still the same as canon, I'm only describing the parts that changed. And it is just the previous chapters from Harry's perspective.)

31 July 1991. Diagon Alley.
Harry stood along with Hagrid outside Gringotts, still not feeling comfortable after the long wild ride down to his vault. Harry still couldn't believe it. That he was a wizard, that his parents had been wizards and there was a whole new world that existed which he never knew until now. Whatever he had been told were all lies. His whole life until now was a lie.
His parents' name and his name were the only true things. But, he began to doubt it too. What if that had been a lie too?
What would he do in a completely unfamiliar world? All the magic and stuff were amazing, but what if he couldn't live up to expectations? What if they expel him out of Hogwarts saying that it was all a mistake?
He had never had friends in his previous schools because of Dudley. Now that he was here, somewhere without Dudley, could he make friends?
And what's with the people's stares? They look at him with so much admiration and respect that it was overwhelming. He felt uncomfortable...
Before this, whenever he went outside, he was despised, everyone looked down on him, looked at him as if he were a freak. But now these people look at him with reverence, for something he did when he was a little child, for something that he couldn't remember, for something he did on the day on which his parents died.
He wasn't even sure if it was his doing.
That was when his thoughts were interrupted by Hagrid, "Might as well get yer uniform", he said nodding at a shop named 'Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions'. "Listen, Harry, would yeh mind if I slipped off fer a pick-me-up in the Leaky Cauldron? I hate them Gringotts carts..."
Harry nodded to indicate that he didn't mind. But in reality, he did mind. He was left alone in an unfamiliar place, but he couldn't trouble Hagrid anymore could he?
He nervously entered the shop alone.
He that there were already four girls and a boy in there. The boy had many similarities in his features that he shared with the girl who was giving her measurements, except for their hair colour. They looked so much alike that he instantly understood that they were twins. Two other girls were looking at the newly arrived batch of robes. And there was another girl who was just standing alone fiddling with her fingers and then looked up at him as he entered the shop.
The instant he saw her, he felt that she was familiar. But he didn't know why.
At his point of time, Madam Malkin had already noticed that he had entered and asked him, " Hogwarts, dear?" and he nodded in response.
"These children here are also starting at Hogwarts too. Wait a minute till I finish measuring her up" she said as she resumed measuring the platinum-haired girl.
Then Harry glanced at the boy and the girl who was standing alone, and the girl smiled at him and he smiled back. The girl didn't look haughty like the boy. She didn't look at him respect, nor did she look down on him.
The moment she smiled at him, his nervousness was somehow gone and he calmed down a little.
The boy suddenly greeted him, "Hello," and asked, "Hogwarts, too?"
"Yes", Harry said.
"My mother's next-door buying books and after all of us finish measuring up, I'm gonna drag everyone off to look at racing brooms. I don't see why first years can't have their own. I think I'll bully my father into getting me one and I'll smuggle it in somehow."
The instant this was said, Harry was reminded of Dudley. He felt uncomfortable and didn't know how to reply.
Just as the boy was about to open his mouth again, the girl interfered, "Draco, can you please stop talking? It's really annoying."
"What is it to you?! I'm talking to him, not you. And I don't understand how my sister is friends with a person like you"
"What your sister does is none of your business and mind you......,"she smirked at the boy named Draco, "I thought that I was talking to someone who has common sense. If it isn't the case, my bad, I'm really sorry."
"You...", Draco was stumped for words.
Looking at this, Harry wanted to laugh but somehow controlled it as it would look rude and then glanced at the girl. She was looking happy for whatever reason.
Just at that time, a woman came and asked "Finished, children?", and all of them nodded.
"Let's leave then. We've got a lot of things to shop"
Then the girl said bye to Harry and they all left.
After that he got his robes fitted, then Hagrid came to get him. They stopped to buy quills and other stuff and then Hagrid informed him of various Houses at Hogwarts and how Voldemort was from Slytherin.
They bought books, a cauldron, and portion ingredients and only the wand was remaining. They entered Mr Ollivander's Wand shop.
As he entered he saw the same girl he met at Madam Malkin's shop, standing alone in the shop.
He went near and stood beside her as she greeted him with a smile and extended her hand, "We meet again. I'm Lyra Bones"
Harry smiled as he shook her hand, "I'm Harry Potter, nice to meet you"
She was shocked and glanced at his scar.
Then Harry asked, "Have we met somewhere before?"
"Hey, we met just a few minutes ago at Madam Malkins' shop. You've forgotten already?", she joked.
"No no... I'm asking before that. When I first saw you, I thought you were somewhat familiar"
"Ahhh... why are you using such an old pickup line? Try something new, will you?"
"I really thought you're familiar. It wasn't a pickup line", Harry whined. He really felt that she looked familiar.
"Okay, okay. I'm just joking with you. You are so nervous. It wouldn't do you any good. So, relax alright?", she said.
At that time a voice came suddenly that both Harry and Lyra jumped in shock.
"Good Afternoon"
It was Mr Ollivander.
"Hello..." they both said awkwardly.
"Ah, yes..." he said. "Yes, yes. I thought I'd be seeing you soon, Harry Potter and Lyra... Bones"
Harry wondered how he knew who they were.
"You have your mother's eyes. It seems only yesterday she was in here herself, buying her first wand. Ten and a quarter inches long, swishy, made of willow. Nice wand for charm work." he said to Harry and then turned to Lyra, " And you, Miss. Bones... you just look like your mother when she was here except for your hair and eyes, which you have gotten from your father. Am I right?"
He continued to show off his memory as he told them about their parents' wands.
Then he looked at Harry's scar and told about how he regrets selling the wand to Voldemort.
He wanted Lyra to try out wands first, but she refused and let Harry try first.
Harry tried a few, but they didn't suit him. And then finally one wand suited: 11 inches, holly and phoenix feather, supple.
And, Mr Ollivander was on about how it was the brother wand of Voldemort's wand and how curious he was of what Harry was to achieve in the future.
Then Harry paid for the wand and wanted to say goodbye to Lyra, but she interrupted him.
"By the way, Happy birthday, Harry"
"How do you know?", he asked.
"Well, who doesn't know the famous Harry Potter's birthday in the wizarding world?"
He looked clueless but he said goodbye as he left.
"Let's meet at Hogwarts, and look forward to my letter", he heard her say.
He was happy when he left the wand shop, he had his first friend and she even wished him a happy birthday! She didn't look at him weirdly even after knowing that he was Harry Potter. It was nice having a friend.
......
(A/N: The part where Harry receives Lyra's letter and the next day are all available in harry's perspective in Chapter 3 and 4. So, I'm skipping that part and directly going to the part when Andromeda reveals Harry's malnourishment...)
.....
Harry stood quietly as the medi-witch named Andromeda Tonks examined him. He couldn't believe that all the things he suffered were about to be brought out in the open. While Vernon's beatings weren't to the point of abuse, he had still beat him.
Then he heard Andromeda tell the others about how he was malnourished and beaten.
Petunia, his aunt was shocked. He didn't expect her to be shocked. He thought that she knew that Vernon was beating him.
But now that he thought about it, it was true that she wasn't home whenever he beat him.
He heard her say sorry and felt happy that at least one of his 'family ' members felt sorry for him. And when she hugged him cried, everything snapped and he also cried. All those times when he wanted to cry, he couldn't, because nobody cared. But now, his aunt and everybody in that room except for Vernon cared about him. He was overwhelmed with happiness. But still, he thought that he could never be close to his aunt, after all, no matter how much one could apologise, the damage done was done; on the other hand, he was glad that she wouldn't treat him like that ever again.
He really wanted to thank Lyra and her mother. Because they made this possible. Especially Lyra, she cared about him enough with just their first meeting and told about him to her mother. If it hadn't been for her, none of this would have happened and he still would have suffered every time he went back to that house.
If she pitied him, then he would have felt uncomfortable. But she didn't. Her gaze only held a sense of righteousness and only because she cared, she helped him.
She was his first friend, and she was the one who showed him that there are people who care, he wasn't alone. She was just like a star in his life.
.......
(A/N: Refer to the part where Amelia explains the truth to Harry and Lyra. I'm quite sure you guys could tell how he felt during this part, so I left it out)
.......
Harry wanted to write his name in his new school books as he wanted to read them.
He tried to write with his new quill, but as he wasn't used to it and scribbled, Amelia found out about it. She then arranged for him a Penmanship tutor and etiquette tutor and told him how he should practice these things with diligence and how he shouldn't let down his parents' name.
He felt thoroughly motivated... that is until his classes actually started. It was like hell, but he has to do it. After all, she was only doing this for his own good.
When he came out of his classes he saw Lyra and her cousin sitting on the couch talking about how he was going to suffer in those classes.
After that Lyra's cousin introduced herself as Susan and Harry introduced himself too. Then they chatted and Susan went back to her room midway. Then Harry and Lyra made a promise to study together daily after his classes.
......
After dinner, Harry went to Lyra's room to thank her for all she had done for him that day, but she wasn't home and so was Amelia.
So, after an hour later he again went to Lyra's room to see if she was there. But her room was left open and she was sitting near her window looking outside.
"Lyra, I wanted to thank you for all the things you've done to help me... That's why - " Harry started to say. But he noticed that she was on the verge of tears and stopped midway and asked, "Wait, what happened?"
Lyra tried to calm herself down but was lost in her thoughts again. So, he went near her and put a hand on her shoulder, and asked "What's wrong?"
He didn't know what was the reason, but she suddenly started crying.
She didn't make any sound, but the tears just silently flowed out.
Harry was baffled at this situation, he didn't know what to do. He never had someone to comfort him but he instinctually felt that he should hug her. And he did. He patted her back as she cried.
After a few minutes, Lyra finallyseemed to have calmed down and looked Harry straight in his eyes and with a weak smile she said, "Thanks Harry...".
"Hey... It's alright. Besides, you have helped me a lot already. This is nothing compared to what you've done."
They both were silent for some time, and then Harry decided to break the silence as he asked, "So, what happened?"
Lyra looked hesitant but after a few seconds started to explain him.
About how insecure she felt, how she and her mother was humiliated and how she didn't want to trouble anyone. And how she felt like she was being a burden.
Harry never thought that a person as cheerful as her could feel down. And at this time, he understood that she was just feeling as insecure as he felt the other day. Since she had helped him, then he should also help her. And he also felt like he should tell her how important she was to him. Just how much their friendship had meant to him. And so, he just told her the truth.
After hearing all that, he said "It's nothing wrong. It's okay to cry, Lyra. And you are not a burden. Do you know something? Actually, when you helped me... You don't know how much it means to me... To know that your whole life until now was actually a lie until that moment. I was lost. At that time, you became my friend. Just your presence was enough to calm me down."
"So Lyra, remember this, you are not a burden and you are my star"

(A/N: Ah... Even now, I feel that I haven't captured the moment perfectly...
I feel that this kind of sweet innocent moment should just be remembered forever... What do you think?
And I just broke my personal record. This chapter has 2393 words OMG...)
