It was just another bright sunny day today in Mumbai with humidity at its best. People around the set which was built in the film city were either moving around with handy fans or they were just taking advantage of the table fans kept in every corner. The crew members were trying to keep their body temperature low by fanning their faces by hand, handkerchief, or by paper.
Still, the atmosphere on the set was happy. Reason? Avyaan Rishi's ever so funny banter. He always made sure to keep the atmosphere at work as light as possible by cracking stupid jokes or playing pranks on literally anyone. There wouldn't be anyone spared by him. So many people would be scared when their number might arrive and they will be his pray. But it has always ended on the laughter attack.
Just today was an exception as his lady love was furious at him for playing a prank on her. Though she was used to Avyaan Rishi's pranks by now, today she felt embarrassed in front of everyone which was something she never experienced before. Having not worked with him previously on any projects this was something different for her as she was more used to him playing pranks either in front of their families or friends.
She sat furiously in her room after completing the shoot for their brand. This was the very first time that they shared a screen together. She liked every bit of it until he made her irritated. She was the subject of laughter erupting from all around the set which she didn't like. Avyaan didn't think it will turn out to be this bad when he initially decided it. But seeing the furious look on her face made him regret what he did.
There were whispers on the set about her arrogance as some people thought she overreacted. Avyaan was known for his mischief and this was just another part of it, they believed. They even went ahead while questioning amongst themselves about how can she act that way when she has known him throughout her life. Avyaan thought of attending those people but then what was the point? Instead, he thought of apologizing to Kainaat first and then moving back to those people and putting some sort of sense in them.
Avyaan pushed the door to her room and entered inside. She gave him a glare from the mirror and continued taking out her make-up. She was already out of her costume and was now wearing her comfy jeans and a sweatshirt. He sighed and walked closer to her as he got seated on the dressing table in front of her.
"I'm sorry. I went too far this time," He said and made a puppy face. She rolled her eyes and continued with her work. He sighed again as he continued talking, "Inu, just forgive me this time, yaar. I know I should have been a little sensible of your feelings but I just did what I do with others."
"Go away." She said ignoring him and making an irritated face. He sighed knowing how stubborn she is when it came to his apologies. It was like she made all use of his soft spot for her.
"Inu..." He was saying when the door flung open and there entered a face Avyaan didn't like seeing. A big frown formed on his face but he didn't say anything, instead, he just got up from his seat.
A big smile formed on Kainaat's face as she got up from her seat and turned to greet that person she was seeing after a decade or so.
"Hey." The smiling face said while coming forward and hugging Kainaat tightly. Avyaan rolled his eyes unpleasantly and pressed a smile when Shivin released Kainaat and looked at him.
"Hi," Shivin said while extending his hand forward which Avyaan just shook for Kainaat's sake.
Shivin was Kainaat's first and only crush until Avyaan came into the picture. She was crazy for him and would support him in sports or on other events when in school. Later, Shivin had to move out of India and that potential love story didn't see the light of day. Even when Avyaan proposed to her later when they were in college she was confused for the very reason apart from her insecurities.
Shivin never came back but informed about his girlfriend thus in the process, breaking Kainaat's heart. Avyaan held her hand at that time and she never looked back since then but Avyaan's insecurities about Shivin stayed the same. Not because he didn't trust her but some of their common friends many times tried putting Shivin in their story by saying she will leave him once Shivin comes back to her.
"It's been a really long time, Shivin." Kainaat said with excitement and happiness clearly seen on her face after seeing her 'lost love' after years of separation.
"Indeed. But look at you looking ever so beautiful," He said and gave her an impressive smile. Kainaat smiled shyly as he went on, "I always knew you had eyes for Bollywood but damn babe, you are rocking it."
Avyaan just gave them a bored look as he watched them bonding again.
"Thanks and you have gotten smarter too," Kainaat said and Avyaan unknowingly left a chuckle. The two potential lovers looked at him with a question face to which he just chose to shrug.
"Thank you so much," Shivin said while ignoring Avyaan.
"How's you, Avi? It was a shocker that you two got together and still are together even after years." He asked in a sarcastic tone. Avyaan raised his eyebrows.
"Why?" He asked. Shivin chuckled and shrugged.
"I mean she is mature, beautiful, and sensible." He said while shifting his gaze to Kainaat and smiled down at her. She gave him a sly smile, refrained from the fact that her actual lover was boiling beside her and was getting insecure for no reason.
"So are you implying that I'm immature?" Avyaan asked with irritation.
"I never said that. Don't get offended, bro. I'm just praising your lady." Shivin said while playing it cool. Avyaan just laughed hopelessly while trying to show that everything is fine with him.
"Of course." He just murmured and looked away.
"So back after so long?" Kainaat asked again.
She never got to know what Avyaan felt towards Shivin as they basically were never put together before today. She didn't think Avyaan would ever feel jealous towards anyone because he never had before with any of her male friends. So she took that attitude of his here too and didn't think into the depth that he had witnessed her crazy crush for the same guy standing in front and for the first time Avyaan Rishi was feeling unconfident about someone. It would be always Kainaat in the past.
"I honestly got shocked when you called in the morning all of a sudden. I thought it would be good if you come here directly as I was a little busy..." Kainaat said again while Avyaan looked at her with surprise. They have been together since the morning and for the first time, Kainaat kept things from him which added to his insecurities.
"I hope you don't mind." She said while making an apologetic face. Shivin let out a laugh and shook his head.
"Don't worry." He said.
"How is your girlfriend, bro?" Avyaan asked whatever came to his mind while feeling left out. Shivin sighed and shook his head.
"About that," he said and shrugged, "We parted ways on some happy notes."
"What?" Avyaan asked shockingly. His voice coming out to be louder than expected.
"Why? What happened?" Kainaat asked as she made a sad and worried face. Avyaan gave her weird expressions. But she was too focused on Shivin.
He sighed and moved his gaze to Shivin who was looking hurt now. Avyaan just shook his head with disappointment.
"We just wanted different things from life and weren't ready to settle for anything less." He said with a little sadness and chuckled awkwardly as he spoke further, "We couldn't compromise for each other and thought it was best to just separate."
"What?" Avyaan asked through a chuckle and got a glare from Kainaat. He just adjusted his expressions and looked at Shivin with bored expressions.
"Yes," he said and sighed before putting a smile and talking ahead, "It's a sad story there."
"What's sad about it?" Avyaan asked with a shrug as he went on, "At least looking at your face I don't feel you are sad."
"So you want me to be sad?" Shivin asked with raised eyebrows. Avyaan was ready for a debate but Kainaat intertwined.
"Avi." She said sternly. Avyaan just sighed and looked away with frustration.
"So, Shivin, tell more. How is Canada?" Kainaat asked while changing the topic now. She just wanted to make him feel better. No other thoughts crossed her mind, neither did she thought of any possibility of what Avyaan's mind was thinking rapidly.
"It's all good but lately I don't enjoy being there," Shivin said.
"Why? Can't those Canadians take your mannerism? Or did they deported you because you irritated them with your not-so-funny witticism?" Avyaan asked through a smile again. Shivin just sighed and looked at him unpleasingly. Avyaan smirked at him. Kainaat just stood there showing her unpleasant expressions and being embarrassed about her fiancee's comments.
"You still know how to throw those mannerless jokes," Shivin said and chuckled. Avyaan gritted his jaw but pressed a smile.
"At least those are better than making a plain face 24/7." He said. Kainaat sighed and looked around to ignore the debate.
"Sometimes it's better than cracking some nonsense jokes and hurting someone," Shivin said again. There was silence for a few moments as Kainaat and Avyaan exchanged a look.
"What?" Avyaan asked. Shivin chuckled and shook his head.
"I came here early to see the shoot." He said and sighed as he moved his gaze to Kainaat before speaking again, "Kainaat you were killing it as always." She chuckled shyly. Avyaan gritted his teeth again and just rolled his eyes to ignore the torture his eyes were experiencing at the moment.
"Thank you, Shivin for understanding, else others just don't see the other side and start throwing the comments at me. I am the villain in the end." Kainaat said and passed comment on Avyaan. He just looked at her.
"I said sorry, Kainaat." He said. She rolled her eyes and ignored him like always, trying to get more of his attention. She was spoilt by him anyway, so she loved to act stubborn to get more of his love and attention.
"Anyway, what are your further plans?" Shivin asked ignoring Avyaan. He frowned but didn't say anything. Kainaat was happy with Shivin around and he didn't want to ruin it for her.
"Nothing much. Just getting back home and doing regular things like reading or something." Kainaat said with a shrug.
"Reading is always a stress buster for me," Shivin said and Kainaat's face brightened.
"It is for me too." She said excitedly. Avyaan just sighed. He wasn't an avid reader like her but still read a few of her recommendations.
"Remember how we used to go to that restaurant... What was its name?" Shivin asked all of sudden.
"Gopal," Kainaat shouted with happiness remembering the old days with her gang. Avyaan chuckled looking at that kid.
"Right the small hotel," Shivin said and added, "You loved the watermelon juice there." Kainaat laughed and shook her head.
"I did. OMG! It's been so long that I had it." She said.
"No worries. I will be at your service. You are famous here and I'm not." Shivin said while saluting her. Kainaat chuckled again.
"You seriously are the best, Shivin," she said excitedly. Shivin looked at Avyaan, "You coming, bro?"
Avyaan sighed and shook his head negatively, "You guys go. I'm fine." Kainaat frowned while hearing him. She knew she won't be going anywhere leaving Avyaan.
"Come," Kainaat said with a glare, still refusing to put down her act. Avyaan shook his head again, "You guys enjoy. Anyway, you shared a gang in school. I wasn't part of it." Avyaan smiled putting his sadness out of it. Kainaat's frown deepened.
"I anyway have a shoot tomorrow," Avyaan said again and nodded at Shivin. He nodded back at him.
This time Kainaat felt anger within her. She felt Avyaan was doing it purposely because she didn't pay attention to his apologies. Little did she know his real reasons. He just didn't want to ruin her mood further and thought of leaving her with Shivin who she met after such a long time. He just thought of ignoring the rest of the things and focused on her happiness for the moment.
"Fine. Let's go, Shivin." Kainaat said and put on a smile on her face as she spoke again, "There is a new restaurant and I would love to go there for dinner."
"Alright," Shivin said and looked at Avyaan as he spoke again, "Bye, Avi. It was nice meeting you, man."
"Same here," Avyaan said with a smile and looked at Kainaat who just took her bag and walked out along with Shivin and her happy smile.
Avyaan opened the door to their penthouse and got in after putting keys on the table. He initially thought of going to his parent's place for dinner but later dropped it as he just didn't feel good about sending her with Shivin. Numerous thoughts were dancing inside his head and making him uncomfortable. He finally pulled out his phone and dialed Aman's number. His best friend who knew him and Kainaat since childhood. He didn't belong to the industry and was Avyaan's biggest critic as well.
A few rings went on and he finally picked up the call.
"What's up, bro? You finally remembered me." Aman said with loads of sarcasm. Avyaan sighed while getting seated on the couch.
"Sorry, man. I was busy for the past few months. It was hella tiring." He said while rubbing his temples.
"What's wrong with your voice?" Aman asked getting his childhood buddy and knowing something was wrong with him.
"Shivin is back apparently," Avyaan said and chuckled at his own stupidity.
"Shivin?" Aman asked and recalled the guy who he was talking about. He spoke further, "Oh your biggest enemy?"
"Naatz's crush Shivin?" He asked again. Avyaan rolled his eyes.
"Who else?" He asked with irritation. Aman started laughing by hearing his change of tone.
"Why is he back?" He asked.
"I don't know. He broke up with his girl or something." Avyaan said.
"And he landed up here? In front of you?" Aman asked. Avyaan nodded while taking a deep breath.
"He called Kainaat in the morning asking her to meet up." He said in a down voice.
"And?" Aman asked suspiciously.
"And what? She went out with him." Avyaan said and there was silence for some time.
"Are you kidding me?" Aman shouted on the line. Avyaan took his phone away from his ear hearing the sudden outburst and made a tired face.
"You let that happen? What were you thinking?" Aman shouted again.
"Dude, he is Shivin. The boy she crushed on." Aman said the facts, making Avyaan worried again.
"She was dreaming of spending the rest of her life with him and you just set them up? What were you even thinking?" Aman said making his best friend understand. Avyaan rubbed his forehead and sighed.
"I don't know, man," He said and added, "She looked happy."
"Of course she would," Aman said again.
"Anyway, I gotta go," Avyaan said when he didn't feel anything right. He regretted his decision even more after talking with Aman.
"To where? Cry in the bathroom?" Aman asked. Avyaan just sighed.
"Shut up, man." He said tiredly. Aman sighed this time.
"Avi, bro. I know how much you have loved Kainaat even before she got to know about it." Aman said.
"She might have been crushing on that dude but you have always looked for her even then and now this?" He spoke again.
"I'm sure it will be fine. I trust her." Avyaan said in a voice so low.
"I hope you don't set up your own girlfriend with someone else," Aman murmured.
"What?" Another voice came from the same line and Avyaan smiled.
"Namastey, Bhabi." He said.
"What did you do with Kainaat?" Aman's wife shouted at him.
"He set her up with Shivin," Aman said before Avyaan could open his mouth.
"Remember?" Aman asked again. There was silence for some time.
"Oh, the hot guy on the cricket field?" She said. Avyaan gave a helpless look as Aman started laughing.
"That's how we would refer him." She said again. They all have been school buddies do knew each other well.
"Dude. I'll pray for you." Aman said through his laughter.
"Thanks, asshole. I'll call you later." Avyaan said.
"Anytime," Aman said and Avyaan cut the call.
He let out a deep sigh and rested his head on the headrest for some time. He didn't even bother to turn on the lights. He just stayed there while rubbing his head when he heard the door getting unlocked. He crooked his eyes and looked at the clock. It was still early for Kainaat to come back. He sat straight and looked back at Kainaat who stormed inside with unpleasant expressions.
Worry grabbed him and he got up from his seat as he walked towards her.
"Why did you come early? And why do you look angry? Did he do anything?" Avyaan asked her but she just rolled her eyes and made her way further inside. Avyaan followed her.
"Where was your worry when you sent me with him?" She shouted after stopping at one point and looking back at him. He sighed.
"You looked happy, Inu. I anyway don't know him..." Avyaan was saying but Kainaat cut him with a chuckle.
"I didn't know many of your friends too and still got along for you even when I'm not the most socialized person." She said and raised her eyebrows. Avyaan shrugged.
"Why? He is mature and smart," He said and chuckled sarcastically. Kainaat crooked her eyebrows as he continued, "You had a big crush on him too that you wanted to shift to Canada at some point."
"So? You gave us privacy?" Kainaat asked, not believing what the man in front of her was saying. His words hurt her as she felt he just let her go like that without even bothering her much.
"I thought you are furious because I didn't accept your apology but..." She said and chuckled sadly as tears clouded her eyes. "You doubted me," she said in a low voice and looked down.
Avyaan shook his head slightly as he moved forward and held her. He felt guilty for hurting her even without any intentions.
"I didn't doubt you, Inu. I was..." he was saying but just stopped. There was no point in covering up neither he wanted to keep it from her.
"Fine. He made me insecure and that's why I said those things about him and didn't accompany you." He said after a few moments. She looked up at him through tears.
"I don't like him. Okay?" He said and wiped her eyes. "I am a jealous man but I can't help it." He said. Kainaat kept her gaze on him.
"I hate him." Avyaan said further through gritted teeth and continued after a pause, "And I hate to see you with him. I hate it when you talk about that crappy past with him."
"I feel like you will leave me and go to him because you always wanted to be with him." He said again and looked at her with so many emotions flooding through those brown eyes. Kainaat chuckled and wiped her tears.
"Are you stupid, Taneja?" She asked with a broken voice and moved further towards him as she spoke ahead, "Don't you know me?" Avyaan kept looking down at her. She smiled and put her hand on his cheek.
"I never once thought about him or anyone ever since you came into my life and made it so beautiful." She said and kissed his cheek. He smiled gently but kept listening to her as she spoke again, "I don't want anyone mature for me but I want someone who will go crazy with me." She said and smiled.
"It's fine if you don't like reading. But I want to travel the world with you. Watch those scary movies with you and just do everything we both enjoy." She said and sniffed as she continued.
"We won't compromise but I know you will adjust anything for me. I know you read those books for me, so I can have someone to discuss them with. I know you don't like watching romance but you still do. You adjust so much for me, Avi and I don't think he will ever do that for me. Forget him, I don't let you watch cricket many times and you still don't complain." She wiped her eyes and let out a small laugh. Avyaan held back his own tears as he wiped hers.
"I love you for who you are," She said further and wiped his moist eyes as she spoke again, "And to be very honest, I wasn't that mad at you for that prank. I just wanted your attention." Avyaan gave her a look to which she started laughing making him smile all along.
"Fine. I was a little embarrassed and that's why I walked out but I was fine later." She said again through a smile.
"I am sorry. I didn't think he will make you uncomfortable. I thought you are Avyaan Rishi and you don't feel jealous." She said and made a puppy face. He chuckled and shook his head.
"But for once I felt good to see that fear, hear that worry, and know that you feel insecure too." She said again and shrugged. Avyaan let out a laugh.
"But no more." She said getting serious again as she spoke further, "You don't have to worry about anyone as I just belong to you and just you."
"I don't want anyone else now that I have found you," she said, "You don't even make me want to look around."
"I have you and I want nothing more." She said and pecked on his nose tip. His smile was wide as ever as she looked down at her.
"So just pay more and more attention to me." She said and made a face. He laughed again.
"Else?" He asked. She shrugged.
"Else I know how to have my way with you." She said and he chuckled. She smiled along.
"Why did you come early?" He asked while playing with her hair.
"I missed you." She said without thinking much and truthfully. He just smiled.
"I am sorry." He said. She shook her head.
"Don't be. Just know that I love you," she said, "And there is no one you should be insecure of." He nodded through a smile.
"I guess," he said in a low voice, "I love you too." She smiled while looking up at him. He just bent down and pressed a kiss on her forehead making her feel happy all over again. She just snuggled in his arms with a wide smile and he wrapped his arms around her making her feel at home again.
