Kainaat adjusted her specs on the bridge of her nose as her eyes concentrated on each word printed on her current read, 'The God Of Small Things'. It's not a secret that the famous Bollywood actress Kainaat Mukherjee is a bookworm. She has always been open about her love for reading and makes it a point to read whenever her busy schedule allows her some time.
Today was one relaxing day as she got some free time after her morning shooting. But it was not like any other free day for her, today was special as she was going to spend some time with Avyaan after four long months. Four months of no proper meeting or talking! The last time she got some quality time with him was on her birthday night. They couldn't even manage to celebrate his birthday together because of their conflicting work schedules. She felt guilty for not being able to do anything for his birthday so she decided to make use of this opportunity which they got after so many failed plans in between.
The past four months have been really busy for both of them. Kainaat was juggling her film shootings along with the promotion of one of the upcoming movies and then the extra ad shoots and endorsements. She has been on the news with a lot happening in her career. The same was the case with Avyaan, he got busy with his upcoming movies, prepping and shooting, he was also involved in the production and marketing of his movies. He was working round the clock as he had a lot of exciting projects ahead.
It was tough for both of them to find some quality time together even if they were in the same city. Communication through the phone was also limited as Avyaan would mostly in a remote village shooting for his upcoming movie. This has been the longest four months apart for this couple. Although they have gone more than four months without meeting each other, this was the first time they had trouble with communication. They even had small fights in between which weren't addressed properly by both parties.
So finally they got a day where they could manage to meet up and spend some time together.
The doorbell rang interrupting Kainaat's reading session. Kainaat laid the book on the table after putting the bookmark on the page where she stopped reading and got up to open the door.
She was at their apartment waiting for Avyaan to return from his shooting. She opened the door to receive the food she ordered for both of them. Avyaan would return any time and she had to get ready. The whole place was already set for a romantic, cozy date. Kainaat was determined to make it as special as she can for him, making up for all the time they lost and the little fights she started with him. She could have gone for something more fancy and expensive but Avyaan was clear that he just want to spend some time with her at home. It was understandable and even she didn't have much strength or interest to go out just like him.
So she just planned this little surprise for him in their apartment. She tried her best to make the place look as beautiful and cozy as possible. She could have gone for cooking but considering her terrible cooking skill and the amount of time she'll take, she settled for ordering their favorite dishes from their favorite restaurant and instead used that time to decorate the place for their cozy night together.
She put the food in the kitchen and went straight to their room to get decked up for her man. She couldn't hide her excitement for some reason.
The dress was already ready on the bed along with the required accessories. She took a quick shower and wore that plain black slip dress. It had a knee-length with a slit on one side going up to her thighs while making it look sexier. She dried her hair quickly and let them loose. She didn't apply any make-up instead just settled for red lipstick and wore a silver chain with a pendant as the only accessory.
Kainaat looked at her reflection with a satisfied smile. She looked sexy yet elegant, just like she wanted to look. She walked to their living room dimming the lights and lifting the candles. He was expected to be there any moment. It was already getting dark outside and she couldn't wait. She felt like a teenager once again. She was dreaming of holding him again and feeling his lips against her. She missed that feeling of having him close and hearing his whispers of sweet nothings in her ears. She missed how he laughs when he teases her and then makes a cute face when she fakes her anger. She missed the warmth of his arms and the secure feeling it gave her. She just missed Avyaan Rishi as a whole and just couldn't wait to meet him again.
Though it felt silly to her to even feel this way, she couldn't help it. Sitting on the couch, she checked her phone to see if he called or texted her about arriving in Mumbai. There was non from him which made her a little disappointed but then he might want to surprise her too. So she patiently waited, minutes turned into hours, and still nothing from him.
Kainaat felt all sorts of emotions while waiting for him. She felt frustrated and angry at him for not showing up on time. She couldn't even reach him which was even more frustrating. There was a part of her that worried for his safety as it was rare for Avyaan to be late for something they planned. She thought of calling his colleagues but that didn't seem right. So she was just left with one option and that was to wait for him in their apartment.
She took the book again but her mind was already drifted. It was filled with so many thoughts about just one person. She kept the book down and walked towards the giant glass wall. The moon was looking stunning along with countable stars in the sky. The humidity in the air was soaring high with the temperature. This summer was surely the hottest yet. She sighed and looked around at the arrangements she made for them, for tonight. She wanted to make it most special but seems like Avyaan had different plans than hers.
The clock was ticking fast and with that, she felt her eyes getting heavier. The couch felt comforting and she finally gave in.
It was past midnight when Avyaan showed up. He didn't knock on the door, well aware of the fact that Kainaat might be sleeping. He opened the door with the key he had. He closed the door behind him without making any sound and walked further inside with bated breaths. Kainaat was sleeping peacefully on the couch. He could tell she was waiting for him. His already guilty self felt worse when he saw the arrangements she had done for their night together.
There was a delay on his film shoot due to some technical glitches which messed up his whole plan for the day. The shooting got over pretty late than expected and then the flight timing to Mumbai wasn't really helping him either. He returned her calls when he was in range but she didn't pick up. He knew she was angry and frustrated but he didn't want to mess up the time they are getting together after long four months. He just wanted to be with her, close to her and that's why he came to Mumbai even when it was too late and he has to leave for the location the very next day. There are probably just a few hours and then they'll get back to their work and then he doesn't even know when they could manage time together in the near future.
He walked close to her. She looked gorgeous and he knew she put so much effort to dress up just for him. He felt terrible and the only thing he wanted was to make it up to her and make the remaining time special and memorable for both of them.
Avyaan tucked few hair strands falling onto her face behind her ears and placed a small kiss on her forehead. Kainaat woke up a little startled.
"It's me," Avyaan whispered while looking down at her. He could even see it clearly in the dim-lit room that how the colors of her face changed drastically. She was angry. She pushed him away and stood up while facing him.
"Inu, I can explain..." Avyaan tried to talk only to be cut off by her.
"I don't want to hear anything," She said while stating her displeasure as she walked to the switch board, switching on the lights and brightening up the room. The clock showed 1 in the morning which only made her angrier. She felt stupid for doing all the arrangements and dressing up, all for him. She felt stupid for feeling all the excitement only to spend the night waiting for him.
"Inu, I'm sorry. There was a technical error so the shoot got delayed and I couldn't let you know because of the network issues..." Avyaan tried to make her understand although he knew it wasn't that easy.
"I look like a fool here, Avi," Kainaat chuckled sadly while shaking her head and looking at him while folding her hands on her chest. Avyaan sighed not knowing what to do. He wanted to defend but thought of staying quiet at least this moment. He just wanted to makeup but Kainaat had different plans.
"I did all this just for you. Do you even know what I went through while I waited for you? Do you know how many times I called you? You could have let me know somehow if you were going to be this late." Kainaat was fuming with anger and frustration. There was a part of her who wanted to just settle the issue and spend whatever time remaining with him without fighting but no, she was just too stubborn and wanted to throw tantrums.
"How can I do that if there's no network in that bloody area?" Avyaan asked while making his voice a bit louder. All the years he did try everything for her but today, he was tired. He looked at her feeling frustrated himself. He didn't want to fight but he knew Kainaat was not in the mood to listen. He still tried to stay calm. "Inu, can we just let it be and spend whatever time remaining together. I don't want to fight." Kainaat gritted her teeth.
"Do think it's that easy, Avyaan?" She made her voice louder with each word she spoke, "I feel frustrated for doing this for you." Avyaan shook his head in disappointment as he just sat on one of the couches while adjusting his watch.
"Have you already fed up with me?" She shouted again. Avyaan closed his eyes briefly and watched her up as he gritted his teeth, "Think whatever you want."
"Fine. Then I don't think I can pretend like you didn't stand me up the whole night and just laugh it off while enjoying the rest of the night with you. I am done for today and I am done with you." Kainaat grabbed her phone and stormed to their bedroom, shutting the door close with a loud thud.
Avyaan sighed but didn't bother to make any move. He just sat there while feeling equally frustrated. He finally rested his head on the headrest and thought of shutting his eyes momentarily to get away from this feeling he was having at the moment. Usually, he would bear her tantrums and try to calm her mood but today he didn't care neither did he have any energy for it. He came only to spend time with her even if it was just for few hours because he knew it's not happening anytime soon after this day. His schedule is only getting more packed in the coming days with more films going on floors and hers is the same. It frustrated him to think that all the effort and tension he went through to get here was for nothing. He felt restless, he wanted to confront her for her childish behavior but he knew her better. So it was better to let go of that topic for good as anyway it's just a few hours and he will be back on his film set.
He liked how feisty and fierce Kainaat is. He didn't mind keeping up with her sassy attitude and letting her being dominant. He knew how soft and fragile the real Kainaat is so he let her be the tough one in front of the world. But now he was tired, tired of being the one to take all the tantrums and being the one who always tried to fix all of their fights. It was getting to a point where he was expected to mend things between them no matter what the issue is.
He didn't want this pattern to continue in their relationship. Because that would only ruin them. This time especially it wasn't absolutely his fault. There was nothing he could do at that moment. This was the first time he was being late for anything they planned together. She knew that still, she had to fight and ruin their possible time together.
Avyaan thought of being stubborn this time as he wanted her to understand his situation as well. It's not like she's incapable of seeing his side or she needed someone to make her understand things. She's mature but when it comes to him, she takes full advantage of his soft spot for her. Avyaan has always been completely okay with it but there's always a limit to this. He wanted her to understand that and he wasn't going make her see. She had to see it on her own.
The sky changed its colors and the morning came but two lovers were stubborn to start any conversation or make any move. Avyaan was the first one to get ready for the day. He had to make it early as possible to his film set and anyway he didn't have any reason to stay longer as the person he wanted to spend his time with was not interested.
Kainaat didn't come out of her room until it was noon. She fell asleep pretty late after crying all by herself. She didn't know the reason for those tears. Maybe it was just her anger and frustration coming out. She hated the fact that even their small meeting had to be this difficult. She hated how rude she was to him last night even when it wasn't his fault. She didn't like herself at that moment but she couldn't bring herself to change her behavior as well. Her ego was too strong for her own good and she ended up ruining their time.
She was hoping to see Avyaan but he was nowhere to be found. She could see that he had cleaned up the living room. He had put everything back to its place and took off the decoration she did. She checked the other bedroom to find it empty and made her way to the kitchen only to find a note on the dining table.
'Breakfast is in the microwave. Heat it up before having.'
Kainaat felt terrible for being an ass the other night. She could have easily let it slide but she didn't. She just made it even more difficult for him. She can tell that he only came to Mumbai just to spend a few hours with her. It was hectic for him. He could have just stayed there and texted her his situation. But he didn't. Instead, he came all the way to Mumbai by taking that long flight.
She felt really pathetic for doing this to him. She wasn't treating him right and even she knew how much of a drama queen she has been for the past few months. But still, Avyaan has always been patient with her and she just took advantage of that. Last night Avyaan showing up late wasn't his or her fault but their fight was her fault. She completely ruined his time.
She immediately went to the room to get her phone. As she kept the phone to her ear she was hoping that he was available and still in Mumbai.
Much to her relief, Avyaan picked up the call in a couple of rings making Kainaat let out the sigh of relief.
"Avyaan?" she breathed out. She heard him sigh too as he spoke.
"Yes," He answered and waited for her to say something but Kainaat was nervous for some reason. She felt guilty. The silence surpassed between them as she stayed the same.
"Did you have breakfast?" He asked finally after some moments were passed and when she just refused to say anything.
"No. I'll have in some time," She said and trailed off not knowing how to apologize to him.
"Okay." He just said plainly.
"Where are you?" She asked in the hope of seeing him.
"On my way to the airport," He said and waited for her.
"Can I.."
"No, it's fine. I'm already running late," He said in a plain voice and regretted it immediately. Kainaat felt hurt. He sighed yet again as he spoke further. "I actually went home. Had to meet mom and dad as I won't be returning for another month. Met Niya as well," He filled her with information although in a monotonous tone.
"Oh.." Kainaat felt her eyes tearing up while hearing him. He noted her tone and knew what she is feeling. He gritted his jaw while feeling bad for leaving her that way but he had no option. He looked out of the window when the car made its way inside the airport.
"Inu," He said finally and took a deep breath before speaking ahead, "Speak. I'm already at the airport." He said. Kainaat sniffed hard as she tried to catch up on those words.
"I'm so sorry Avi... I ruined last night. It was my fault. I shouldn't have acted the way I did. I am so sorry," Kainaat finally confessed as the tears flew down from her eyes. Avyaan clenched his fist while feeling helpless at that moment but he anyway got off the car when it stopped at the terminal.
"Don't cry. I'm not that angry at you. I never was. I just feel a bit frustrated, Inu. But it's okay I guess. I'll be fine." He said fully understanding her. Kainaat shook her head rapidly while wiping her face and sitting on the couch while feeling even more frustrated with herself.
"Avi.. yaar... I'm sorry... I feel terrible. I am such a horrible person. I have always made mistakes and then you handled them," she said and sniff as a sob left her mouth. Avyaan sighed while blinking the tear away from his eyes. The media people started to gather around him. He smiled with difficulty and put on the shades. His helper boy handled the luggage for him.
He waved at the paparazzi and made his way inside the terminal. Kainaat was sobbing on the other side as she spoke again, "I am sorry, not just for last night but for all the times I've been a bitch to you. Please don't stay mad at me, Avi. I can handle anything in the world when you are with me. I can't do that otherwise. You know I am not strong but you give me strength." She said not knowing what to say to make it up to him. Avyaan smiled gently.
"I'm not mad at you, Inu. I know you well and I know your reasons but I deserve some pampering once in a while too." He said and this time his voice was soft as the same smile played on his lips. Kainaat chuckled through her tears while finding a little piece of her Avyaan back.
"I will make sure you get that." She said through a smile and continued, "So you forgive me this time?" She asked hopefully. She anyway was determined to make it up to him for everything.
"I don't know, Inu. I'm still a little upset about whatever happened last night," He said truthfully and sighed before speaking again, "But I'll be okay. For now, just don't cry, okay?"
Kainaat smiled hearing him and nodded a little, "Yes. Just promise me that you will be back soon."
"I will when the work is over. I can't just handle these hectic travel and shoot hours now. I don't want to spend my time while traveling just to fight with you in the end," He said again. Kainaat felt tears gathering up in her eyes again. She felt terrible for behaving that way. She couldn't open her mouth to say anything.
"I need to stay focused. So I will see you when I am over with this film." He said and sighed as he looked at the boy who was gesturing him to hurry. He nodded as he spoke again, "Anyway, we'll talk about it later. I've to go now. I'll call you when I'm in range." He said.
"Okay," She said helplessly because that's all she can do for messing up with things. She smiled through her tears as she spoke again, "I love you, Avyaan Rishi and I will make sure to mend up everything the next time you come. I really really love you, Avi." She said and sniffed by the end. Avyaan smiled and nodded.
"I know, Inu and I love you too." He said and she could feel his smile from his voice. That made her smile widest even when the tears in her eyes still remained.
Kainaat felt a little at peace now. Avyaan hasn't really forgiven her but it was a little better now. She was just happy that at least she could talk to him, there have been days when proper talks were impossible when there were many unfinished fights, and having to leave the conversation in between were common. All due to their work condition.
It's hard being a celebrity and dating another celebrity. It's even harder to maintain that relationship in the industry. It's not like they haven't fought before but being a celebrity doesn't allow you to solve a lot of issues even if you want to. Many relationships fade out due to busy schedules, temptation, career problems, ego clashes, and long distances.
Avyaan and Kainaat are just like any other celebrity couple. The only thing that makes them an exception is their strong bond and friendship which they have been sharing since their childhood days. They have known each other for their entire life and it's a fact that they know each other better than they know themselves. But that doesn't mean fights won't happen ever. It doesn't mean their relationship is perfect. It's barely anything close to it.
Kainaat and Avyaan are two normal human beings having their unique flaws and strengths. They make mistakes but they also work hard to make up for it, to mend it, and to make sure the same thing is not repeated. Every day is not a fairy tale for them like how people might perceive it.
Loving is easy but maintaining that love is always tough. Nothing is set in stone and they both know anything can go down any time. After all, the only predictable thing about life is its unpredictability. There are days like these when they love each other a little less and feel annoyed by each other's presence. There are days when fights last longer and it seems like everything is over. Even on those days, they choose each other because they know, no matter what, when the bad time passes by and the storm calms down, they can only picture them with each other. No one else will take up that special place in their hearts for each other.
In the end, it's always their decision to stay in the relationship, their determination to work things out between each other, and their passion to grow with each other that makes their relationship strong and healthy even with all its flaws.
