unrelated but i love the movie the black swan, i love how it realistically depicts an artist obsession and the loss of innocence — of growing up, its truly beautiful.

the subtle details from nina's change of clothing, lily handing her clothing to nina and having her quite literally have sex with the black swan is genius.

the attention to detail is amazing too like lily's garments being black and having thigh high garters and nina's beginning ballerina outfit going from fully pink to grey, to black is also genius.

i love how this movie didnt need any backstory scenes to show her history, her mother's failure — obsession with ballet. the way this movie shows how perfection is never achievable, and how perfection will always be the root to madness and how that can always lead to your failure.

whats even more amazing is that the movie doesnt just label lily as the only black swan, so is thomas. thomas was the fall of nina, and so was nina's mother, and so was beth. the ever lasting cycle of perfectionism and obsession is the inevitable death of an artist.

the transformation that nina goes through as well.

transitioning into a woman, growing up, experiencing pleasure and pain and sex is the most painful part for nina.

a man being the sole reason nina matures and dies is sooooo CHEFS KISS.

i also think its beautiful that we see nina mess up only once before the performance, to where she then makes a vital mistake, not only that but with a MAN holding her. and then having her fight herself in her dressing room, letting her jealousy and hatred of lily out when in reality, its herself that stands in her way of what she deems perfection.

the pulsating skin, the eyes, the expressions. thats not nina, and finally at the end of the performance, she kisses thomas. she seduces him. something she couldnt do at the beginning of the movie, but at the end when shes killed for it.

nina kills to seduce a man — and dies for it.

and much like whiplash — nina is critically injured, bleeding, desperate and crying, but as an artist, the show MUST go on. she wipes her tears away, she NEEDS to be the swan queen. even at the cost of her life.

side note how did no one but thomas notice the blood? thats SO MUCH BLOOD.

and that line "i felt it. perfect. i was perfect." is sad. because in reality she was NOT perfect, no one was, as shown when the backup dancers say "i sucked!" but SHE felt perfect.
