Chapter 3: The Majo Who Cures

Ellie

I open the door quickly and see a silver statue. I try to talk to her as she speaks. "Oh my poor ring. I lost it! My ring!" She sobs, as there's a sign under it. "Return the things that don't belong to you." I walk around as there's another way to the next area of the house. I try to walk through but I immediately get burned. "Gah!" I scream. I suppose it's some kind of force field. I huddle over myself, huffing out. Pain ripples through me, it feels like I'm on fire for a while. The burn washes away as faint stings still live on my body.

I try and think straight and empty my pockets. The letter I found in the forest, the long golden chopsticks and the silver ring I found in the pot. The silver ring I found in the pot! I put the other two items in my pocket and scurry over to the statue. I present the ring to her and place it into her cold stone hand. "My ring! This is my ring! Oh thank you, thank you." The statue cries out excitedly. "Take these, I have no use of them." She says as glass slippers drop from above. I catch them just in time as my heart skips a beat or two. I look back at the sign. Instead of the last message, it says "A happy woman with her ring."

I hurry to the forcefield again and hold my breath as I walk through. I open my eyes. No burns. I'm in the next room! There's another long hallway but this time there's a dark purple liquid oozing across the red carpet. A tall oak sign reads "CAUTION. ONLY COLORLESS FEET MAY CROSS!!" I look down at my feet. Little blue Mary Janes. I don't take the sign seriously and remove the golden chopsticks. I don't have any use of this. I throw the pair of sticks into the purple goo as they disintegrate like throwing paper into a blazing fire. My eyes widen as I know. This sign is legit.

I brainstorm for a while before putting my shoes off and sliding on the glass slippers the woman gave me. I put my shoes in my pocket and shook my fear off. I take my first step. I don't die. I trudge on through, hoping these shoes stay forever. I see another door. I have to go through it! I open the door and see another desk, similar to the one in the library. There's the same dark red journal on the desk as well. I looked around and curiosity burst inside of me. I flip to the page that's filled out.

"A magical being that came to me. Apparently they take deceased humans for their energy. They are called Majo's. This one Majo let me live because they were low on energy and thanked me for my parents' energy source. The Majo made me a witch, also giving me this house. The Majo told me if I supplied them with more energy, then they would give me a cure to my disease. I agreed. I fed my friends, and multiple strangers that came by. But I needed more."

I close the diary and leave the room. I adjust the slippers on my feet and walk across the liquid that would melt me away. I get to the end as the slippers vanish. I put back on my shoes and opened the next door which I was greeted by the black cat again. "I don't care if you die or not." He says, shrugging its tiny black cat shoulders. In front of me stands a tall tree. Its white leaves seem to glisten as there sits a tiny white flower next to it. I sit down to the flower as it moves, as if it's living. It has pure white petals and long, stringy vines wrapped around it spreading across the tree.

I notice a door to the side of the tree and budge it open. There's a sign on the wall. "2 out of 3 red flowers lie. Yellow flowers give off a pollen. White flowers grow huge vines that travel through its environment. There's a dim light in the room with a table in the middle. Four yellow flowers sit there, with a teapot and filled tea cups in their place. I can hear their gossiping. "Oh my I really do dislike that white flower. It has its horrid long green tentacles growing everywhere!" One flower scoffs, shuffling its bright jade leaves. "Someone really needs to X her! I would do anything for that!" Another flower added. On the other side there are three red flowers sitting down.

A thought comes to my head. "How do you X the white flower?" I ask, my voice coming out kind and polite. One red plant cocks its bold petals to me. "You have to cut it! Do NOT pluck it." The plant tells me as the other flower chimes in. "She's lying! You have to leave it alone. Sooner or later it will slowly X." The other red flower shakes its petals, which flop around gracefully. "I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure you pluck it." It says. I'm pretty sure I know what to do.

I exit the room and see the tall white tree. I present myself to the flower and lower my hand around its stem. I gently pluck it as a harsh sound echoes around. It sounds like nails on a chalkboard, and it really is ear breaking. I drop the flower as it vanishes along with its widespread vines and there's just white petals on the ground. I rush back to the chit chatting flowers who are now giggling like little schoolgirls. "Did you hear her sound? I sure did!" It squealed as another says, "I'm satisfied to not have her thorns growing" The flowers turn to me as they realize my presence. "Did you X the white flower?" One asks, saying 'The white flower' like its the name of a dictator. Before I answer she gasps.

"Oh thank you, thank you. We are at peace. Here take this. It's what a lot of yellow flowers produce." I swear the flower winks at me as I'm handed a bag of what looks like golden tiny dots. It must be pollen. All of a sudden, the floor shakes. Uh oh.
