[015 . WE DID IT !]
Ecto-1 plowed through some of the Revelation signs, causing everyone inside to scream. The vehicle came to a screeching halt by the dirt field.
Phoebe emerged from the rear, holding the Trap containing Zuul. Callie stepped out and stared upwards, her eyes widening at the sight of the psychokinetic atmospheric disturbance now hovering above the farmhouse. Trevor followed suit, looking up in awe.
"Oh my God," Trevor muttered.
Phoebe, focused and determined, called out, "Mom, come on!"
Phoebe headed towards the porch, with Callie following but stopping in front of it. The field rustled ominously.
"Get back. Get back," Callie urged, moving up to stand protectively in front of Phoebe.
"Mom," Phoebe said, her voice filled with concern.
Meanwhile, in the back of Ecto-1, Trevor joined Podcast and Jules.
"What's up?" Trevor asked, noting the tension.
Podcast wiggled his eyebrows mischievously. "I should be asking that about you two."
Jules widened her eyes and cleared her throat. "Um, what?"
"I saw you and what you were doing in the car. Don't worry, your secret's safe with me," Podcast said with a wink.
Jules hid her face in Trevor's chest, mortified. "Oh my God."
Callie, unaware of their exchange, was focused on the impending danger. "No, no, no," she muttered as Phoebe stepped out.
Gozer, in an incoherent form and not fully corporeal, pushed through the field and walked onto the dirt.
"Pull the lever!" Phoebe shouted, holding out the Trap.
"Pull—?" Callie echoed, then understood and yanked the lever. "Aah!"
The capacitors surged on, and Gozer turned, noticing the capacitor silos. The field hummed with energy. Lucky kicked the front door open, wielding a Proton Pack.
"Hey!" Lucky yelled, firing and wrangling Gozer. Trevor emerged on the gunner seat, but his thrower didn't work.
"Come on, what are you waiting for?" Podcast urged.
"I'm waiting for this thing to work! It's not working!" Trevor replied, frustrated.
"Uh..." Podcast began, realizing the problem.
"Aw, crap!" Jules exclaimed as they spotted Mini-Pufts disabling the pack.
Vinz, the creature, roared and charged at Phoebe, who shouted, "Mom, hit the pedal!"
"Pedal?" Callie repeated, then stomped on it. The red lights on hundreds of buried Traps turned on, but the capacitors went offline.
Gozer tugged at Lucky's stream, sending her flying forward. "Lucky!" Podcast shouted, worried.
Phoebe and Callie ran to Lucky, who was down. "Podcast, what are you doing?" Trevor asked urgently.
"I've got my own problems!" Podcast replied, dealing with the Mini-Pufts.
Phoebe tried to grab the Proton Pack as Vinz roared at her. Callie and Gozer wrestled with the Trap, but Gozer ripped it away, causing Callie to fall. The Trap was torn in two, and Lucky was possessed by Zuul, transmogrifying.
Zuul snarled at Callie, who screamed in terror. Gozer, now fully restored, petted Vinz and then Zuul. "Oh no," Callie whispered.
Gozer's fingertips crackled with energy, nearing Callie's face. "No," she pleaded, closing her eyes.
"Hey, flattop," a voice called from offscreen.
Ray Stantz, Peter Venkman, and Winston Zeddemore stood in their flight suits, Proton Packs ready.
"Have you missed us?" Peter asked with a smirk.
Ray addressed Gozer, "Gozer the Gozerian... in the name of the county of Summerville, state of Oklahoma, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, all the members of Ducks Unlimited—"
Peter made a face, and Winston side-eyed him.
Ray continued, "The Association for the Advancement of Retired Persons, I command you under the National Invasive Species Act to depart this world immediately."
"Bravo," Peter said dryly.
"I think she remembers us," Winston noted.
"Are you... a god?" Gozer asked, her voice chilling.
Ray was speechless, prompting Peter and Winston to nudge him.
"Yes," Ray finally answered.
"Yeah, we're all gods," Winston added.
Peter chimed in, "Yeah, I mean, we're all pretty dang special down here. On a personal note: I thought that we had busted up for good. It wasn't working for me. My friends didn't think so. I know yours didn't."
Gozer gestured to the Terror Dogs, commanding them to stand down.
"Okay, playtime's over. Let's toast this muffin," Winston said, preparing his thrower.
"Light them up," Peter chuckled. "Man, I love that sound."
"On the count of three. Go on 'two.' One. Two," Peter counted down, and they blasted Gozer.
"Yeah, nothing stings like a billion electron volts!" Ray cheered as they crossed their streams.
Gozer clutched at the streams but managed to pull them apart, sending the Ghostbusters flying.
"No!" Phoebe cried out.
"Are they dead?" Podcast asked, horrified.
"What the fuck! I want my mom now!" Jules shouted, panicked.
Trevor held her hand, trying to comfort her. "I don't remember this job being so painful," Ray groaned.
"I do," Winston muttered.
Peter, never losing his humor, said, "You got a lot of nerve. Coming back here, crawling back to me. We could've been the most spectacular power couple. You know, my sense of fun and your personality."
Gozer walked past Callie and Phoebe, who were stunned by the turn of events.
"But, no, you always had to vanquish and conquer. Always had to maim somebody," Peter continued, his tone bittersweet.
Winston aimed his thrower at Gozer, but she zapped his hand. "Good try, anyway. Now we're finished, babe. We're finished," Peter said.
Gozer was shot in the back of the head. She turned to see Phoebe with the other Proton Pack, firing at her. The streams of energy collided, and Phoebe started to get pushed back.
"Come on, Phoebe," Callie urged, desperate.
"No, no, no, no!" Jules cried from the car.
Suddenly, an ethereal hand grabbed onto the thrower with Phoebe. It was the ghost of Egon, helping her. They exchanged looks, and Callie, witnessing this, was in shock. "Holy shit," she whispered.
Ray, Peter, and Winston blasted Gozer again, and Egon and Phoebe inched their way to the Ghostbusters. Podcast picked up the P.K.E Meter and tasered a Mini-Puft apart. The others paused and gasped before he started tasering all the Pufts. Trevor peeked inside Ecto-1.
"We're on!" Podcast shouted as a machine turned back on.
Trevor aimed at the capacitors and fired, instead of at Gozer. The Traps hummed to life. Callie noticed and ran up to the porch, stomping the pedal. The Traps opened, pulling the wisps and disturbance down.
Gozer was ripped apart, the souls of those it had consumed released and trapped. The remaining Mini-Pufts were pulled in and roasted. The Terror Dogs fell, and the Traps closed. The Ghostbusters and Phoebe turned off their throwers.
Phoebe, on her knees, slowly moved a finger towards a Trap and was zapped. She ran to Callie, who grabbed her in a tight hug.
Winston, Peter, and Ray were speechless at the sight of Egon. "I thought you might turn up," Peter said.
Egon nodded. "I'm sorry... I didn't believe you," Ray said, his voice full of regret.
"I should've called. I miss you, my friend," Winston added.
Egon nodded again.
"Are you okay? Oh my God. You scared the shit out of me," Callie said, holding Phoebe tight.
"Mom, I can't breathe. Okay," Phoebe replied.
Peter knelt near them. "Hi there. Pete Venkman from the home office," he said, shaking Phoebe's hand. "Thanks for pitching in."
"You're welcome," Phoebe said.
"I like your style. Who's that one?" Peter asked, shaking Callie's hand.
"Callie. Callie Spengler," she replied.
"Spengler? Weird name. Try to make the best of that. All right. We're gonna have cocoa inside. And some of us will have rum with it," Peter said, standing back up.
Trevor pulled the head off one of the charred Terror Dogs. "Hey, man," he said to Gary.
"You okay?" Trevor asked.
"Yeah, my hands hurt from galloping," Gary replied.
Lucky's hand emerged from the other husk. Jules ran over to help her out. "Oh my God. I totally thought I lost you," she said, hugging Lucky.
"What?" Lucky replied, confused.
Gary, touching his head, said, "I'm bleeding. Why am I bleeding?"
Callie, sitting beside him, replied, "Um, you headbutted a park bench."
"Oh, right. Yeah," Gary said. "Hi."
"Hi," Callie replied.
"Um, back there, yeah," Gary began.
"Yeah, I think so too. But then we saved the world, so..." Callie said.
"That's true," Gary agreed.
Podcast stepped out of Ecto-1, covered in marshmallow residue.
"Are you all right, son? You just singlehandedly defeated a manifestation of Gozer," Ray said, impressed.
"You gotta be on my podcast," Podcast said excitedly.
"Sure. What's it called?" Ray asked.
"Mystical Tales of the Unknown Universe," Podcast replied.
"M.T. Double U., that's you?" Ray asked, surprised.
"Wait. You're my subscriber?!" Podcast exclaimed.
"Really found its voice in the 46th episode," Ray said.
Winston touched the hood of Ecto-1. "What did they do to you? Don't worry. I'll take you home, get you all cleaned up."
"Hello!" Jules interjected, extending her hand. "I'm Juliana, but you can call me Jules."
"Well, hello Jules. I'm Winston," he replied, shaking her hand.
Jules ran up to Trevor, holding his hand as they slowly approached Egon. She pushed Trevor forward.
"Go," Jules whispered.
Jules stays in her spot , Trevor starts walking to his grandfather letting go of Jules hands slowly
"Hey," Trevor said softly.
Egon put his left hand on Trevor's right shoulder, then turned to Phoebe. He knelt down and parted her hair, exchanging a tearful look with her.
Egon then stood and turned to Callie. She walked over and they hugged. Trevor placed his hand on Phoebe's shoulder, while Jules side-hugged Trevor, and Lucky placed her hand on Jules' other shoulder. Winston and Ray watched, tearing up.
A tear streamed down from Callie's eye as Egon peacefully dispersed. They all looked up into the sky, watching as the spectral trail of Egon formed into the shape of the Icon Ghost.
