[003 . LATE NIGHT TALKIN]
The night had settled over Summerville, casting a peaceful quiet across the town.
Inside her room, Jules finished her nighttime routine. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, and changed into her comfortable pajamas.
The day's events played in her mind as she climbed into bed, picking up her phone from the nightstand.
As she lay there, thoughts of Trevor lingered ( no not in the way you think )
Earlier, when he was filling out his job application at Spinners, she had noticed his phone number written at the top.
Without really thinking about it, she had memorized the digits.
"Should I?" she whispered to herself, biting her lip. The curiosity got the better of her, and before she knew it, her fingers were dialing the number.
The phone rang once, twice, and then a voice on the other end answered, "Hello?"
"Hey, new kid," Jules said, her voice slightly nervous. "Sorry if this is weird. You probably were asleep. Um, it's Jules."
"Oh, heyy , No, I wasn't asleep," Trevor replied, sounding more awake. "So, how'd you get my number?"
Jules chuckled, feeling a bit sheepish. "Heh, so that's funny. Um, I just saw it on your job application."
"Wow, you missed my voice so much," Trevor teased, a smile evident in his tone.
"Fuck off, new kid. We only just met and I barely know you," Jules retorted, but there was no real malice in her voice.
Trevor laughed softly. "Fair enough. Well, let's fix that. How about we get to know each other? You start."
Jules took a deep breath, thinking about where to begin. "Oh um well what do I say"she laughed
" I don't know what are your when's your birthday ?"
" February 20 2006 " she said filling her nails
"Shut up," Trevor said, smiling through the phone, though she couldn't see it.
"What?" Jules laughed.
"I'm February 19, 2006," he said in the most excited way possible.
"Oh my fucking— that's so fucking crazy! What the fuck!" Jules exclaimed, laughing even harder.
"I know, right? Just one day apart," Trevor said, his excitement matching hers. "Maybe it's fate or something."
"Yeah, or just a weird coincidence," Jules said, still smiling. "So, what else should I know about you, new kid?"
"Well, let's see," Trevor began, thinking. "I love cars and fixing them "
Jules raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Cars ? You know I do like love driving around but my mom quit teaching me how to drive after I almost hit the post box "
"isn't that like normally in front of houses ," Trevor said with a chuckle. "Well maybe when I'm done fixing my car I can take you for a ride maybe teach you - only if you want if you don't that's totally cool "
"Ya no ya " Jules said softly. "I would love that "
"Cool" Trevor replied , he was so lucky that she couldn't see his tomato red face "
" so like what's fun to do around here "
"Omg so like basically theirs this diner don't worry it's not the one you think it is , it's this guy named Luke's diner and like he seems really tough but he's like this soft teddy bear " She listed off " iv known him since I was born since my mom moved here when she was pregnant with me at eighteen so like luke would help her out like moving furniture and stuff - I always hope they'd get together.
"Oh ya I know him he welcomed us with some food" Trevor admitted. "It was hella good , you know you and your mom and Luke were the only people who were nice to us in this town "
"Yeah, I can imagine," Jules said, her voice softening. "Most people here are shit "
Trevor laughed. "I think I'll be fine with that , So, what about you? What's something I should know about you that's not in the usual introductions?"
Jules thought for a moment. "Well, um ... I love rollerblading , reading a lot of it , and sometimes I draw but not as much as I used to
"Hm" Trevor said, intrigued. "Maybe I can be your muse "
"Maybe," Jules said playfully. "If you're lucky."
They talked for a while longer, sharing more about themselves, laughing and joking. The conversation flowed easily, making the late hour slip by unnoticed.
Eventually, Jules yawned, realizing just how late it had gotten. "I guess I should let you get some sleep," she said reluctantly.
"Yeah, me too," Trevor agreed. "But this was nice. We should do it again."
"Definitely," Jules replied, smiling to herself. "Goodnight, Trevor."
"Goodnight, Jules," he said, and they both hung up.
Jules set her phone down, a content smile on her face. Maybe this new kid wasn't so bad after all. She drifted off to sleep, feeling a little more connected in their small, strange town.
