Elena sat cross-legged on her bed, strumming her guitar absentmindedly.
The soft melody filled the room, blending with the faint dialogue from 27 Dresses playing on her TV. She was in her comfort zone: an oversized hoodie, pajama shorts, and no plans to move until the day demanded it.
A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts.
She sighed, gently setting the guitar aside.
"Come in," she called, glancing over as Aaron poked his head in with a grin that immediately screamed trouble.
"Hey, Lena," he said, stepping in fully and leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed like he had something important to say.
"What?" Elena asked, raising an eyebrow, already suspicious.
"How's my sis doing?" he asked casually, his grin widening.
She narrowed her eyes. "What do you want?"
Aaron feigned offense, placing a hand over his heart dramatically. "What makes you assume I want something?"
"Because you always want something," she replied, watching as he walked over and unceremoniously flopped down beside her on the bed.
Aaron stretched out, kicking his legs up and making himself at home. "This," he said, gesturing between the two of them with exaggerated hand movements, "is called brother-sister bonding."
"Right," Elena replied flatly, giving him a sideways glance. "Okay."
They sat in silence for a moment before she spoke up.
"So, you and Charolette, huh?" she said, her tone teasing but light.
Aaron jolted upright so quickly he nearly fell off the bed. "What? No!"
"You seem close to her," Elena said, smirking.
She reached for the guitar pick on her nightstand, twirling it between her fingers casually.
"I wouldn't do that. She's your best friend," he stammered, avoiding her gaze.
"Aaron," she said, her voice softening, "I don't mind... She's one of my best friends, sure, but you're my brother, and if she makes you happy, I don't mind."
Aaron's shoulders relaxed, but his face turned a shade of pink she didn't see often. "To clarify," he said quickly, "we're not dating. But... I want to ask her."
Elena's lips curved into a small, knowing smile. "Yeah, I know."
Aaron fiddled with the hem of his hoodie, clearly working up the courage to ask something else. "Can I ask you something?"
"Of course," she said, leaning back against her headboard, pulling her legs up to her chest.
"You seemed... off at the New Year's party," he said, tilting his head as he studied her expression.
Elena paused, her fingers stopping their movement on the guitar pick.
"When McKenna brought Mason," he added, his voice careful now, like he didn't want to push too hard.
"I know," she said softly, not meeting his eyes.
Aaron shifted closer, his brow furrowed. "Do you like him, Elena?"
Her head shot up, her cheeks instantly warming. "What?"
"Be honest with me," Aaron said, his tone patient but insistent. "Do you like him?"
"Aaron..."
"You can't deny it. All those moments—come on. You like him."
Elena sighed, running a hand through her freshly cut hair. "Okay, so what if I do?"
Aaron gasped dramatically, grabbing a pillow and clutching it like it was a scandalous secret. "And you didn't tell me?"
"I realized it like a day before New Year's Eve!" she said defensively, shoving him lightly.
Aaron grinned, clearly enjoying this. "Fine, I'll let it slide. But why were you upset?"
Elena hesitated, her voice barely above a whisper when she finally answered. "They seem cozy."
"McKenna and mason ? Yeah I wouldn't say that," Aaron replied, shaking his head.
"Why?"
Aaron shrugged, leaning back against her headboard. "McKenna says he talks about you," he said casually, watching her reaction.
Elena blinked, sitting up straighter. "So what?"
"You know he always talks about you, right?" Aaron asked, his tone more serious now.
"What do you mean?" she asked, her voice cautious.
"He's one of my best friends, right?" Aaron began, meeting her eyes.
"Yeah," she said slowly, "and he's one of mine. What's your point?"
Aaron leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "When we're out, he always manages to bring you up. Like, at the mall, he'll pick something up and say, 'Oh, Elena would love this.'"
Elena froze, staring at her twin as her heart raced.
"All I'm saying," Aaron interrupted, standing up and stretching, "is maybe you're not the only one with feelings here, 'Star Girl.'
Her breath caught at the nickname, and she barely noticed as Aaron made his way toward the door, tossing her a quick grin over his shoulder.
"Good talk, sis," he said, shutting the door behind him.
Elena stared after him, her guitar forgotten on the bed, her thoughts swirling in a way they hadn't before.
But she had other things to think about like how she would habe off to film ' now you see me 3' in a week
