Elena stretched out on her bed, her phone balanced in her hand as she adjusted her earbuds.

The familiar ringtone buzzed in her ears, and soon, Alex's face filled the screen.

"Finally!" Alex exclaimed, leaning closer to the camera. "Took you long enough to pick up."

"Relax, I'm here now," Elena teased, settling against her pillow. "Where's Amelia?"

"I'm right here!" Amelia's voice chimed in as she leaned into view, sitting beside Alex.

She gave a small wave before nudging her brother. "Move over, Alex, you're hogging the camera."

Elena laughed, the sight of her two best friends instantly lifting her mood.

She'd known them for as long as she could remember.

She and Alex had met in kindergarten when they were just four years old.

Alex was the boy who shared his crayons with her on the first day, and they'd been inseparable ever since.

Amelia had come into the picture not long after.

Elena still remembered the day Alex introduced her to his twin sister after school.

While Alex had been busy showing off his action figures, Amelia had proudly displayed her sparkly gel pens.

It hadn't taken long for the three of them to become a trio, and Elena had loved them both fiercely ever since.

"So, what's up?" Elena asked, propping her phone against a pillow.

Alex groaned dramatically, running a hand through his hair. "You will not believe what happened today."

"Here we go," Amelia muttered, rolling her eyes but smiling all the same.

"James," Alex said, his tone heavy with disdain.

"Oh no, not James again," Elena replied, already fighting back a laugh.

"Let me finish!" Alex said, throwing his hands up. "This guy is so annoying. He keeps acting like he owns the place—walking around like he's better than everyone. And today, he had the audacity to—"

As Alex launched into a detailed rant, Elena couldn't help but glance down at her phone.

Her lips curved into a soft smile as she typed a quick reply to Mason's text.

"Okay, hold on," Alex said, narrowing his eyes at the screen. "Why are you smiling like that? Who are you texting?"

"What?" Elena asked, trying to keep her expression neutral. "No one."

"Yeah, right," Amelia chimed in, leaning closer to the camera. "That's your 'I'm definitely texting someone' face."

Elena's cheeks warmed as she bit back a grin. "Okay, fine. I'm texting Mason."

Alex groaned, flopping back dramatically against the couch. "Elena! Are you serious right now? I'm here pouring my heart out about James, and you're busy texting Mason?"

"I'm multitasking!" Elena protested, laughing.

"Yeah, multitasking between ignoring me and smiling at Mason's texts," Alex grumbled, though a small smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth.

Amelia nudged him playfully. "You know, Alex, maybe Mason is just her new best friend."

"Not funny, Amelia," Alex shot back.

Elena rolled her eyes, grinning. "You're both ridiculous. I can text Mason and listen to Alex complain about James at the same time."

"Fine," Alex muttered, crossing his arms. "But if I see you smiling at your phone again while I'm talking, I'm hanging up."

Elena laughed, shaking her head. "Deal. Now, please, continue your rant about James."

Alex launched back into his complaints, and Amelia offered sarcastic commentary, but Elena's mind wandered back to Mason's text.

She couldn't help but smile again, which immediately caught Alex's attention.

"El!" Alex groaned. "You're doing it again!"

"I am not!" Elena defended, even as her face gave her away.

Amelia leaned forward with a mischievous grin. "She totally is. I bet Mason's saying something cute. Or maybe he sent her a selfie?"

Elena sighed, shaking her head. "You two are hopeless."

"And you're smitten," Amelia quipped.

"I am not he's just a friend - Let's change the subject before Alex explodes," Elena said quickly, trying to steer the conversation away from Mason.

"Good idea," Alex agreed, though his mock glare lingered. "But I'm watching you, El. One more smile at your phone, and I'm reporting you to the best friend police."

"Noted," Elena said, biting back another grin.

Despite the teasing, Elena felt grateful for moments like this. Alex and Amelia had always been her constants, her family by choice. Whether they were sharing jokes, teasing her about Mason, or ranting about James, their bond was unshakable—and Elena wouldn't trade it for anything.
