Childhood
The echoes are so clear,
It is deafening to my ears
Like a siren, it calls out to me
From the corner of a memory.
It holds something dear,
Hidden away under the little black dress.
It was a time where the mind was free,
Unchained by all the mess.
I peer in the mirror,
A familiar face is all I see.
Free from flaws inflicted by time,
Caught in a moment of eternity.
She was a precious diamond so fine,
With her dolls and china, all was divine.
A seemingly pristine state of mind
Ridicules me from where I stand
On a pedestal of broken souls and hearts,
On a road I took since that Thursday night.
Behind the darkness, I was once a child
Who'll blindly stay by your side.
I saw the world through rose colored glasses,
I basked under ostentatious white lights.
