My mom opened the door and I walked into the kitchen, putting the empty container in the sink.

I heard my mom gasp. "Diana, why is your shirt orange?"

"It's okay. Jonathan and I were just playing around."

My mom raised her eyebrows at me.

Dustin walked in and looked at me. "Oh, so it's like that now. Getting with my best friends brother. Just awful," Dustin faked a sob.

"Jonathan. And. I. Are. Not. Together! Why does everyone think that?"

"Maybe it's because you're always together?" Dustin offered.

My mom interrupted. "Diana I want you to go shower and clean off this mess. I can't have you looking like you survived a bear attack in a pumpkin field."

"Fine mama," I agreed.

I trudged to my room and got out some clean clothes, then headed to the bathroom.

Shower time was usually my time to think.

I let the water get warm as I was getting undressed, then I got in.

As I cleaned myself, I imagined what tomorrow at school would be like.

Steve and I had three classes together.

English in Mrs. Clicks class. History in Mr. Sullivans. And French in Mrs. Buduos.

Steve was terrible at French, he couldn't even roll his letters or pronounce the words with an accent.

But boy, did I love helping him.

I sat next to Steve in all three classes, mostly to be close to him, but also because teachers never really looked at who was next to him, only at him.

He had that weird effect on people.

When I finished in the shower, I dried off and got dressed.

"Diana, I left you some microwave lasagna on the stove. Just make sure to reheat it," my mom said.

"Okie dokie."

I plopped the lasagna on the plate and let it heat up then sat down on the couch next to Dustin.

My mom was watching a game show, and Dustin kept on shouting out the answers.

After we ate dinner, I headed to bed at 10.

My mom usually stayed up until the late night news finished, so she could see the weather for tomorrow.

She claimed that the night time news was the most accurate because it was closer to the next day so she could decide on what to wear.

I snuggled up in my bed and fell asleep almost instantly.

I dreamt of an older version of myself.

This version of me looked happier, stronger.

In this dream, I was cooking breakfast. I had three plates pulled out and put pancakes on all three plates.

I called out that it was breakfast time. Steve appeared next to me and kissed me on my head.

"Who's the third plate for?" I asked him.

"He's not here yet. He will be there tomorrow." He smiled at me.

I woke up in a cold sweat the next morning while listening to my brother's Star Wars alarm go off again.

As usual, I waited for him to get out of the bathroom and then I went in, getting dressed and doing my hair.

I packed my school stuff up in my satchel, a different bag from my purse.

I grabbed my camera and English notebook and went into the kitchen.

My mom had made us tea and pancakes, which somehow brought me back to my dream.

It was creepy in the dream watching my best friends boyfriend be affectionate to me, but it was also creepy knowing that there was a third person who was there. Who was he? I'll never know.

A car honked outside just as I finished my second pancake.

"Jonathans here!" My mom called out.

"Want a ride?" I asked Dustin.

"Nope. I'm fueling up for today. Need the extra pancake energy to bike to school."

"Have fun then. See you later mom."

I went outside carrying my stuff to see Jonathan looking frustrated in the drivers seat.

"Are you okay?" I asked him as I took a seat in the car.

He backed out of the driveway before he spoke. "Will didn't look right today. He looked different."

"You know what today is right?" I asked Jon. "It's Lab day. He hates those."

"I forgot. He usually tells me in the morning but I guess I left too early for him to say anything."
