"After all that I can do for them is done, I need someone to remember me." If there was one thing Yang Soyon could be remembered for, she would take it. In every room, she was the kindest, in every group, she was the most gentle, and in every argument, she was the most sensible. There wasn't a hair on her head that was messy, and not a flaw that you could point out immediately. She went through life with the principle of doing good for others, no matter how big or small it was, much of that born from wanting recognition from her parents, feeling like she wasn't the most incredible child that they had. Soyon often cracks under pressure and makes decisions that she regrets much later, often born of impulsivity, but she would never put her life of someones else's at risk. ✷ SEONG GI-HUN was one of Soyon's closest allies. She knew him before the games, but didn't connect with him until they were placed in a dire situation. They work well together and it made her realize that Sang-Woo truly had the best person as a best friend. Gi-Hun left some money for Soyon's mother's treatment when he received his prize after winning the game.
✷ CHO MI-YEON was the girl that Soyon wished she could've raised. Because of her and Sang-Woo's estrangement, it was hard for her to connect with the girl, but she did her best to protect her in the games. She even offered to walk with her to rest rooms to ensure her safety. Soyon felt an uncanny urge to protect her like a parent would, and she didn't know whether it was because she was Sang-Woo's daughter or if it was out of instinct. When Mi-Yeon died in the marble game, Soyon blamed Sang-Woo for it. She punched him in the face and called him a shit, deadbeat father with tears in her eyes.
✷ MRS. CHO adored Soyon. She thought that Sang-Woo could not have chosen a better woman to marry. When he admitted that Soyon left him, she scoffed and told him that she was not surprised since he worked all the time and barely contacted his own daughter; so obviously taking her side.
BACKSTORY.
I am something. I have been something. Soyon was born something: not a person with hopes and dreams of her own, but something to be molded by the things she observed. She was the middle child of her family; the only daughter overshadowed by two sons. Double eclipse. Her parents showed favoritism towards her brothers, putting the notion of striving for success in her mind, because it was truly the only way she could win their favor. She excelled in school and was top of her class each year, but nothing she did made her feel less than a ghost that haunted a family oblivious to her presence. She wanted a family that she could build from the ground up with children that she could love endlessly, and give them all of her attention, no matter how unrealistic that dream was. One failed engagement and miscarriage later, she was let go from her real estate job due to company bankruptcy and fell on hard times. She moved back in with her ill mother and acted as a caretaker for her while balancing her endless hunt for a sustainable job. Enter salesman.

WHO FELL FIRST.
Sang-Woo. Him and Soyon attended the same school and she was his crush all throughout the years; all the way until graduation. Gi-Hun used to tease him about how nervous he would get when she would be mentioned.
HEADCANONS.
✷ They reunited when they were in their early 30s at his mother's fish shop. The feelings he had for her came rushing back immediately.
✷ When he asked her out on a date and she said yes, he enthusiastically called Gi-Hun like "you'll never believe what just happened."
✷ He proposed to her on her birthday. Set up their whole apartment for a romantic night and went all out for that moment.
✷ Their relationship was a downwards spiral after the miscarriage. That combined with Sang-Woo's money laundering scandal made it hard for them to stay afloat. He came home one night and saw that almost all of Soyon's things were gone. The only thing she left behind was a letter that said 'I hope life treats you well. I'm sorry, but I can't do this anymore.'
✷ He cannot sleep without her beside him. When she left, he had to pretend that one of the pillows that she used to sleep on was her. It was pathetic and he knew it, but it was the only way he could sleep at night.
✷ There's a lot of stuff that she left in his apartment, and he can't seem to get rid of it. In the same way, she cannot let go of the engagement ring he gave her.
✷ Sang-Woo would often drink a lot and drunkenly lay down in the bath tub because it reminded him of Soyon, and the way they used to bathe together when she was pregnant.
✷ Seeing her in the games really did it for him. That combined with the presence of his daughter put a lot of weight on his shoulders.
✷ When Soyon would talk to other players, he would stare at her from a distance with the most deadpan stare on his face.
✷ The thought of her being with another guy makes him physically sick. Like yeah, he wanted what was best for her even when she left so abruptly, but a selfish part of him never wanted her to move on.
✷ Soyon was dropped off with him and Ali when the first game dispersed. Ali asked Sang-Woo if he knew her because of the obvious awkward silence and cold shoulders.
✷ A couple of hours after their argument, Soyon stayed up to keep watch with him before the hop scotch game. It was mostly silence between the both of them before he broke it with an apology. She had never seen him so upset before, and it was like the realization of all of his faults came tumbling down onto him. His failure as a father, his failure as a fiancé, and everything in-between. The only closure he got from her was her forgiveness, and their final kiss. That's how he knew that one of them would not make it.
✷ The final look she gave him before before making the jump onto the tampered glass stuck with him until he succumbed to his own fate in the final game. It was a direct parallel to the look she gave him when they first met.
