"Where the hell do you think you're going?"
Indiya didn't let her mother's comment bring her mood down as she completely ignore the noise the old lady's words created in that room full of loneliness – even on the New Year's Eve. Clementine Adler had turned off the TV a little while ago, right before her daughter's steps made her wine taste like poison with fragrant worries sprinkled all over the glass.
"At Jules' house. She invited me because she drank again... a little bit too much and her parents aren't home." that line came out of nowhere, the smell of Indiya's hostile tone succeeding to infect her mother's understanding for the rest of the night.
"So you're now her babysitter. I don't think you go to Jules' house dressing like a fucking Sailor Moon character. I may be old but I'm not as dumb as you think I am."
Indiya's jaw hardened as a result of her miserable decision to approach Clementine before leaving the house. She knew exactly what kind of person she had right beside her when Clementine decided that it's a great moment to be half seas over and act like all her insouciant shrugs were actually just in the girl's nightmares and she's a warm-hearted person among some monsters with beautiful and realistic human masks.
Alcohol made her a whole different person.
"Yeah... and these are her clothes. I borrowed them last week and Jules said that she's fine with that."
But her mother didn't care. She didn't care about every single thing Indiya had said and got straight to the point:
"You'll be home before midnight. This year is our year and I want to celebrate... with the best daughter my benevolent God gifted me."
Oh, yes. Their first year without Indiya's dad – who completely disappeared after a big fight with the woman he described a long time ago as 'the love of his life'. People had been spreading rumors that he had been killed or that he ran away with a minor and forced her to marry him, later ending up in an unknown jail in Greenland. In fact, he wasn't Indiya's biological father because he was around only when her mother wanted to forget about masturbation and fill the whole house with weird sounds that couldn't let her daughter sleep. They were never married and they never planned to do that. They were more than friends with benefits because he truly cared about both Clementine and Indiya but never showed his love for them. After all, he thought he was a man.
And Indiya, in turn, admired that man because he always doted on her and treated her exactly like his own child. And she really thought that she was his child.
If her science teacher didn't call her a bitch three years ago just for knowing that 'horrible human being' she probably wouldn't have found out that her mom was a congenital liar and she would've said anything just to stay out of trouble.
"But– can I drink?" she finally asked her mom with a sudden panic in her voice.
Like she just said the stupidest thing ever.
"Only if that Jules girl drinks too. If she doesn't and you do, you can consider yourself dead – just like Brad."

"Your mum is a fucking cunt, Adler." Jules almost choked herself with that facetious laugh that got out of her mouth.
"I know. That's what Brad said to her before he nearly stabbed her." Indiya played with the beer can in her hands while watching her best friend confidently entering the house where they were going to throw all the bad memories from the whole year.
The air started to smell like wine and cheap whiskey as they went along, perfuming Jules' nostrils with dirty wishes that eventually got lost through her short dress.
Indiya stayed behind Jules permanently, taking a fugitive look around the room and hoping that she'll find someone to spend the rest of the night with because Jules looked like she was enjoying herself a little bit too much before even drinking anything.
She saw Maddy Perez and literally couldn't take her eyes off her beautiful dress that seemed to be made for her while the black haired girl was dancing with her best friend, Cassie. Her blank stare caught Indiya's eyes and she was ready to approach her at the exact moment when Jules took her hand and kissed her neck seductively.
"Rue's here." she whispered in Indiya's ear, despite the loud music that almost frightened them.
"And what the fuck do you want me to do?"
"Kiss me."
Indiya's wide open in surprise eyes automatically closed in pleasure when she read Jules' soft lips and understood what 'she really meant'. She kissed her best friend desperately like she never wanted something more in her life even if Jules just smashed her lips against Indiya's, as if she trying to destroy all of her hopes and thoughts, nearly missing her mouth as her guilty look was still at Rue – who didn't even notice the chaos her 'ex-girlfriend' tried to create. When she finally let Indiya inhale her breath and touch her lips, feeling Jules' lipstick on them Lexi broke the silence by accidentally bumping into them while saying anxiously:
"Have you seen Cassie?"
Jules immediately looked at Indiya – who wasn't as confused as her as she opened her mouth and casually said:
"She was on the dance floor with Maddy. I think they are still there, dancing and acting like they are the only people in the world. Basically, it's impossible not to see them."
And then she left. She just realized what she had done and how useless her action was. Jules just tried to make Rue jealous, she wasn't in love with Indiya and her desperation was embarrassing. Of course she needed to calm down a little so she went straight to the toilet, her footsteps being the only sound that could be heard in that long and draughty corridor.
The only thing she could think about was how fast she fell into Jules' trap and accepted to be used just like a broken puppet. Now she was thrown away, her soul being empty and her mind constantly accusing her of being a fool.
"Don't come in!" the voice on the other side of the door had kept Indiya grounded for a good while before she decided to lose her temper and pounded down to the door – thing that made Maddy put herself right next to Indiya.
As she saw the gorgeous girl searching for her calmness, Indiya stopped immediately and looked into Maddy's eyes trying to told her what she was doing and why the person behind the door was such a shithead.
"Wait, that's Nate!" Maddy shouted when she heard his voice again, placing her hand in front of Indiya – as she wanted to 'protect' her from what she was going to do.
Seeing Maddy getting mad the girl backed away, rolling her eyes while Maddy's nostrils flared as she stared in disgust at the closed door.

Indiya moved away because she already knew what was going to happen so she found herself walking down the corridor again, feeling the coldness hitting her bones as soon as the air from outside met the windows that hadn't been repaired yet.
"Do you mind if I sit down?"
"Yo, you Rue's friend, right?"
"No, I'm actually Jules' friend but I think you saw me last month when I met Rue at a gas station. She was so awkward, Jesus..." Indiya's halting English surprised Fez at first and her heavy accent made him forget about her entire line – even if it was about his friend. "Sorry. That was so rude of me."
"Nah, you good. You met where you met. Yo, what was your name again? You came in two minutes ago lookin' all Sailor Moon and shit and now I can clearly tell that you're not Rue's friend."
"Indiya... And my mom said the same thing about my clothes. My outfit is awful, isn't it?"
Like many girls, deep down Indiya was unsure of herself and then she felt, somehow, powerless and she admitted she was scared witless. Fez seemed to be a laid-back person and his casual tone made her feel like she was his friend already but he was just a stranger who happened to know her best friend and her 'ex-girlfriend'.
"Indiya! Indiya, have you seen Rue?" Jules sat down on the couch between her friend and Fezco, pulling the brown haired girl close and then wrapping her arms around Indiya with pure jealousy in her eyes.
Her spontaneous and quick hug made Indiya shiver as she tried to hug her friend back but couldn't because Jules moved away already, looking happily at Fez and listening to his indecipherable mumble:
"Yo, Happy New Year, Jewel!" he said putting a cigarette in his mouth right after he let a noxious smoke leave his mouth.
"It-it's Jules." the girl stroked her hair, holding Indiya's hand tight to her thigh and moving it up and down as she reached the place where her skin wasn't covered in any type of material.
"Yeah, come on. I know your name, Jewel."
"C-Can we please go home?" the brown haired girl finally found her words, her heart beating faster when Jules moved her hand to her stomach.
"Yo, Jewel, what the fuck are you doing?" Fez asked when he saw the girl with platinum blonde making her best friend touching her chest in a temptingly way.
"I'm sorry– I'm going home." Indiya's voice trembled like she was too afraid to speak even if she was just ashamed of the situation she was put in by Jules.
