"You're really going to teach me?" Varian smiles.
"Don't read into it, but yes." I pull out an extra sword.
I throw it to him. He barely catches it. I look at his small body. I cross my arms.
"Are you afraid of it?" I ask.
"Well... yes." He admits.
I let out a breath. I grab his hand. I move the sword around. He looks up at me.
"You can't be afraid of the blade or else it'll turn on you." I say.
"Okay, okay. Got it check." He says.
I let go of his hand. I gesture.
"Come on, attack me." I say.
"Just like that? You're not going to explain the rules?" He asks.
"Are there rules in science?" I ask.
"... Sort of." He says.
"Just come at me." I say.
"Okay..." He charges.
His swing was weak. He pulls the sword down. I dodge easily.
"Hold it harder." I say.
"I'm trying! It's heavy!" He whines.
"Then lift it up harder." I grab his arm.
I swing it back and forth.
"The sword is yours, but you have to be strong to use it." I say.
"Okay, okay, okay." He says.
"You need to focus, you can't just swing a sword blindly or else-" I look at him.
"Ow! He nicks himself.
"Or else that." I drop his arms.
"Okay, okay. Hey... can I ask you something?" He asks.
"What?" I ask.
"How'd you learn the sword, did your dad teach you?" He asks.
I look down.
"I taught myself after he left me." I hiss.
"I... I didn't mean to-" He starts.
"Again, throw the sword out, this time with actual trying." I say.
