"So... we should be looking for grime moss." Varian tells me.
"You told me the third time." I say.
"Sorry... just excited." Varian squeels.
I look at him.
"For grime moss which can spell so bad it could make your nose bleed?" I raise an eyebrow.
"Absolutely!" Varian smiles.
"You're weird squirt." I say.
"And you're..." Varian starts.
I glare at him.
"So... how do you know my dad?" Varian asks.
"The Brotherhood." I answer.
I look around. Why on earth would Quirin put me in charge of this kid? In case he hadn't noticed I'm all nails. I don't know how to be a father because unlike most kids, I didn't have one. And at the age of 8 and below he was one of the most powerful forest gods. There's something out there. Something the forest breathes around is a warning. My eyes narrow.
"Is he... good?" Varian asks.
"What?" I look down at him.
"Is he a good soldier?" Varian asks.
"One of the best." I say.
"Yeah... what about you?" Varian asks me.
"What about me what?" I ask.
"What about your dad?" He asks.
I jump. What is this? Why does everybody have to use those damn words? I stop. Something's here. Something is watching us. Anubis and Seth growl. I take out my sword. I put my hand in front of Varian.
"What? Why? What's happening?" He asks.
"Shh. Quiet." I say.
There's something definitely watching us. I turn and see fire blazing. Fire dropping like it comes out of an animal's... end. Varian walks forward to the fire.
"Fascinating." Varian reaches for the flames.
I grab his hand.
"Don't touch that. We better go." I start dragging him.
