What was... that? He knew my father. God, what am I saying? I hit myself. How did he know me? My father hasn't been around for thirty years. He's not coming back. I know that now. I lean down to the burning corpse. What kind of darkness is this? I turn back to the others.
"Now you show up?" I ask Quirin.
"Apologies Hector." He says.
"Dad, he saved my life, twice!" Varian points at me.
"Hector, really?" Quirin asks.
"Don't believe in the squirt?" I cross my arms.
"Of course I do... I'm just-" He grabs me.
"W-what are you doing?" I ask.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" He says.
"Okay, okay." I look disgusted.
I push him off and I brush myself off.
"Hector you're a hero!" Rapunzel runs over.
I throw my sword at her.
"Touch me again and I'll make sure you won't touch anything else." I say.
"Whoa! Okay, okay. Not a fan of hugs. It's cool." She smiles.
Pascal grimaces. I lower my sword. I bring it in.
"What was that?" Quirin asks me.
I don't know." I say.
"We have been seeing a lot of forest fires." Rapunzel says.
"This isn't natural." I say pointing to the black flames.
"Hmmm... where did that thing come from?" Rapunzel asks.
"Wish I knew." I sigh.
"Well... we can still have dinner." She smiles.
I look at her in surprise.
"With all due respect, we almost died from this flaming monster. This can't be overlooked." I say.
"Believe me, I know, but... come on. It's good to eat and think." She points out.
