Chapter 4

I thought that seeing my little town home would relieve me a bit. But it didn't.
"Oh my gosh Elorah" Carol came running out the door. She hugged me so tightly I could hardly breathe.
"Pumpkin where on gods green earth have you been, you had me scared to bits" Carol looked up and saw the five men who had brought me home. Carol's face dropped and she shook her head.
"Already?" She asked them.
"I am afraid so" says Cal

During the whole explanation Carols face expressions kept changing.
"Then my coworker Cal threw a bow and one arrow, before he was picked up by the other Husk" Sam explains. I don't know what a Husk is, but I assume that he was referring to those eerie animals.
"Ms Quinn caught the bow and arrow and shot it at the Husk, as it jumped at her. She shot it with such force it went right through its back, and that's pretty impressive considering she has never shot one before" I had told Sam that on the ride back. After Ralph's explanation half of the guys took Annie home and half took me home. We were all sitting in the living room, Abby was probably in bed because 10:24 was way past her bedtime.
"Elorah and Abigail need to go to their rightful school. Not only to learn who they are, but also for their own protection" Cal protests
"Hell no, I am not going anywhere, I will not leave my regular normal life that I have waited years for!" I contended loudly.
"Elorah think about your sister" Sam bickered back.
"I am...Carol?" I stopped after I saw that Carol is almost in tears.
"Oh I, I thought I would have more time" Carol started to tear up more as she fanned her face. "I just wanted to protect them, you know, I just didn't want to go through the same thing I did with her mom, and I mean this school had a bad influence on her mother so..." Carol was stammering as she spoke.
"Wait my mother went to this school?"
"yeah pumpkin me and your mom met there. I think your father went to a different school though. Oh I miss Ginny so much" Carol got up and grabbed a tissue wipe her tears. There was a long pause and it felt like everyone was staring at her. Me and Abby could go to the school and be safe and learn more about who they are. But if they didn't go Carol would be happier, and so would I, I would also get the life Ive always wanted. But we wouldn't be safe. Who knows what other creatures are out there trying to hunt us down.
"I'll go under one condition. You must have someone or something to keep Carol safe" I proposed breaking the silence.
"Deal" Cal says and the men start walking out the door. After everyone, except Cal had walked out Sam came back in with four large suitcases.
"each of you get two, I advise you pack as much as this thing can carry. I will pick you up at 9:00 tomorrow morning. Now miss Cornwall may I talk to you in private?"
"Of course, Ellie go pack your things" Carol clearly didn't want to argue so I groaned and reluctantly started up the stairs when Sam called after me
"See you tomorrow Elorah"
"Ellie please" I say twisting around
"Good night Ellie" he says smirking and walks away. I smile and walk up the stairs.

The next morning, as soon as sun started to rise I was up. I was frantically running around the room, trying to pack my stuff and Abby stuff.
Surprisingly the suitcases could fit almost all the clothes I own. The clothes that couldn't fit I didn't want to wear anyway. Abby's suitcases fit every article of clothing she owned.
"Ellie can I help?" She asked sweetly
"It's ok Abb's I got it. I just need to pack a few more things then I'll be ready" I answered sending a reassuring smile.
"Well I got your makeup for you it was sitting on the floor" Abby picks up the bag proudly.
"Oh gosh I almost forgot thank you. Also I got out an outfit for you" I pointed at her bed.
"What is it?"
"Black pants and a pink sweater. I can do your hair after you change" I offered "Ok I'm going to change now because they could come soon" Abby says grabbing the clothes, dropping the pants and picking it up.
"They aren't coming for an hour" I say laughing, but Abby was already in the bathroom. For some reason we were getting along better than usual. Wait will Annie be going to this mystery school too? I wondered, closing the four suitcases. I pulled on a dark green sweater and black skinny jeans.
"Ellie! Pumpkin! Come down here I have something for you!" Carol yelled from the living room.
"Coming!" I yell
"What's up?" I ask stepping off the last step.
"I have something for you before you leave" Carol was holding a cardboard box that looked years old.
"I was going to wait until you were older but since you're leaving I thought I should give it to you now" she hands me the box and she sits down on the carpet.
"before your mother died, I had known her for about 6 years, from the 7th grade to the 12th grade, and every year that we had known each other, we would put something in the box" Carol looks sad and happy at the same time. I was scared to open the box, just the thought that my mother touched this box made me quiver. I opened the box and inside was five smaller boxes. I carefully lifted the one that said 7th grade on it. I opened it and inside is, a small glass bottle filled with iridescent blue liquid.
"Oh my gosh, no way" Carol gasped
"What is it, poison?" I ask holding it to the light.
"No it's a sleeping position, the first position we had ever made, I didn't think we put that in there. You should keep it you never know what you might need it for" Carol grinned mischievously. A potion?!? Either everyone has been lying to me my whole life or that's bullshit.
"Carol can you make me some oatmeal!" Yelled Abby from the kitchen.
"Yes darling give me five minutes" Carol yelled back and Abby groaned loudly. I grabbed the 8th grade box, my hands shaking, inside were two necklaces. The kind that connected with magnets. On one necklace it said 𝓒𝓪𝓻𝓸𝓵 and on the other one it said 𝓖𝓮𝓷𝓮𝓼𝓲𝓼.
"Why does it say Genesis and not Ginny?" I ask. My mom's full name was Ginny, it wasn't a nickname.
"It does? What?" Carol was also confused "I don't know pumpkin" Carol was admiring the necklace with her name. I put my mother's necklace around my neck and hid it under my sweater.
In the 9th grade box was a gold wrist cuff.
"Oh hoho that is a beautiful thing right there" Carol chuckles taking it out of my hands.
"What's so special about it?" I think she's overreacting it's probably not even actual gold. Carol closed the window curtains saying
"I'll show you" she put the cuff on and twisted it outward. "OW! Oh I forgot how much that hurts" Carol yelled in surprising irritation. For a second nothing happened then Carol was gone.
"CAROL!!! I, what, where are" my eyes were wide and I gasped when Carol reappears.
"Invisibility" Carol says laughing. I was flabbergasted. What the donkeys ass was that!!!
"I-what the-how...Can I try?" I ask studdering.
"Not now we're running out of time" she says, taking off the cuff. Acting like she didn't just disappear into thin air.
Inside the 10th grade box was an empty beer bottle.
"What is this!" I asked laughing. Carol explained that tenth grade was the first time both of them got drunk. So my mom was not the little miss perfect Carol told me she was.
I gasped as I saw what grade 11 was. It was a picture book full of pictures of my mom and her friends. I flipped through the first couple pages, she looked like she had so much fun. My mom
looked a lot like me actually.
"ITS BEEN 10 MINUTES I WANT MY OATMEAL!!!!" Abby screams from the kitchen.
"coming, darling" Carol says running to the kitchen.
"Wait what about the 12th one?"
"we didn't put anything in it that year" Carol called from the kitchen. I took the picture book, wrist cuff, and potion upstairs.
I was able to fit all three of them tightly into one suitcase against the clothes. I was going to take the cardboard box downstairs when I noticed there was a letter stuck to the bottom. I was about to open it when Carol yelled my name. I put the letter into mysuitcase. Once downstairs with the four suitcases Abby was done screaming.
"What do you want for breakfast? Eggs, oatmeal, toast?" Carol asked cooking an egg on the stove.
"No thanks I'm not hungry right now" I couldn't even think about eating right now I had too many emotions swirling inside me like a freshly shaken snow globe.
"Are you sure? Did you even eat dinner last night?" Carol asks. Before I could answer there was a knock on the door.
