It certainly wasn't the pathway she would have chosen years ago but this was how it ended up. After all, it was everything she could do in order not to see her loved ones perish one at a time like they always did.

It all started when she was ten, when her whole childhood had been ripped apart in the span of fifteen minutes one night. Whole house taken away, cousin dead, her and her younger brother, Javi, barely surviving along with their good-for-nothing parents.

History then repeated itself nineteen years later when Kate Carter's two best friends and her boyfriend were torn from her in an EF5 tornado... and Maria had been forced to watch helplessly as the truck had driven further and further away.

Now, five years have passed. Maria is now a thirty-four year old woman who is a broken shell of the person she once was. No longer do you see someone who secretly strived to be an actress in Hollywood but resorted to chasing the dream of meteorology in order to make Javi happy. You now see someone who resorted to any kind of drug you can name in order to take the pain away until one night forced her to sober up.

It doesn't help that she's now pursuing her fears and nightmares in the form of said tornadoes... and with a famous storm chasing YouTuber that she's been falling in love with for the past three years, no less. But she's the reserved member of the group that helps track the storms while he runs or drives head-on into them.

And then she happens to run into little brother Javi and his storm chasing team that are the complete opposite of hers one day. And everything comes spiraling back into Maria's tortured mind.
