Chapter 16: A Fateful Glance in the Midst of Woe
A tempestuous wind rustles the leaves above, sending a cascade of broken shadows across Aria's face. Each passing hour has tightened their bond, as if woven by a loom of fate, drawing her closer to Finnick. They steal glances, words left unsaid lingering between them like whispers of an ancient tale. This night, though shrouded in darkness, glows with unspoken promises and a tension that feels as though it could fracture the very stars.
In the dim light of their small fire, Finnick catches her gaze, his eyes shimmering with a sorrow he dares not speak. "These Games—they do twist the heart, Aria, and I fear they shall twist us both to ruin," he murmurs, his voice barely a breath yet rich with emotion.
A smile plays at Aria's lips, soft and almost tragic. "If ruin lies in finding that which gives life its meaning, then let us both be undone. Let us be twisted, molded, and reshaped by this fire if it shall make us whole."
Finnick reaches out, gently brushing a stray lock of hair from her cheek. "Aye, then let our ruin be entwined, for I would rather perish beside thee than live a thousand lives apart." The warmth of his hand lingers as they drift into silence, hearts laid bare, bodies pressed close against the chill of the night. For the first time, Aria feels that amidst this merciless world, she has found something—or someone—worth holding onto.
