SERIOUS, DENSE, AND DEVOTED are three ways to describe the royal sedei's newest addition. confident, cheeky, and flirtatious are several other ways to describe the assassin. however, there are three major sides to persie that show up, often at different intervals and in fragments. though her identity is not fragmented, persie's accustomed to playing roles and thus, she tends to mask certain traits and amplify others. her full identity is always there, it's the expression of traits that change. having been adapting all her life, persie's no stranger to playing the lying game. in general, the three major sides of persie's personality are all part of a larger picture.
first, there's the sedeina. as sedeina, persie adopts an austere personality. of course, she isn't always strict in this role but she certainly isn't carefree or playful either. however, this isn't just a mask for persie. she's religious, and heavily so, so you can consider this something she's really enjoying despite her disagreements with elyrians. for example, why are they genderbending mythology to fit their homophobic views? the sun princess wasn't a princessβhe was a lord and not even royalty, either. it's all so stupid. did they think it was mere foreign propaganda? regardless, persie sticks to the elyrian scripts and takes her duties very seriously. despite her obvious passion for her work, persie remains a very chaste figure who's careful with her words. by the nature of her position, religious leaders are celibateβincluding herself. sedeina persephone is also intelligent and cunning. though she's not the smartest person there ever was, she's competent enough. lastly, in this role, persie plays the part of a virtuous and respectable figure, caring more for her beliefs than anything else.
overall, persie is a very passionate person. she's passionate about both the people she loves and her beliefs. naturally, she's always been more interested in her beliefs than in people since she's not good at trusting others. as the full composite of every part of her personality, there's a lot to herβfrom her stricter side to her careless side. regardless, persie's mainly a very observant person who likes to pick people apart based on their body language and their words. as a young child, persie slowly learned to pick up on certain exhibited behaviors even when the expression is minimal. in a sense, you can paint persie as a cautious person. despite her sometimes brash and brazen ways, persie isn't a fool even if she insists she is. as a result, persie can be a very good actor when her moods aren't dictating her behavior. though she is emotionally driven, persie's made a point of being emotionally detached while learning to be rational even when she gets emotional. of course, there are times where she can't always rope her feelings in, and despite some of her emotional issues, she enjoys the company of other people. however, she's made a habit of letting people she's not fully attached to come and go from her life without hindrance. she's a lover and she's too scared to lose people so she makes an attempt to not get attached to others. after all, when she cares for someone, she grows to love them quickly and then she gets attached quickly. but if she can just keep her distance from most people and only keep a few close to her, she might just be all right.
regardless, persie is persie in the eyes of those she trusts. though she's only close to the other assassins, she admits that she already cares for the others deeply even though she feels that at least one of them will be dead by the end of this ordeal. however, it's too late for her to take things back and keep her distance but sometimes she still wishes she could. it's a shallow way of thinking but it's also a defense mechanism. no one can be used against you if there's no one you love. of course, she already cares for the others so now she's just trying to keep that number minimal. among the group, the others most commonly know her to be cheeky and playful. she likes to flirt with the other assassins as a form of entertainment (though she usually prefers to flirt with the girls). to persie, this is all just harmless comedic relief. it's more of a way to just forget all of her worries even if the others aren't as amused by it. she only hopes they know she's joking. she isn't interested in any of them like that anyways. sometimes persie's behavior is childish, too, but she's still young. she doesn't throw fits and tantrums but she does whine and pout at times and sometimes her emotions will beat out logic. she's a lover more so than anything else, after all. luckily, she's learned to abstain from being too passionate about things that might get her in trouble. however, she's already failed that in several regards. at the very least, she's capable of being rational with her emotions under most situations.
then there's the third distinct side of persieβconsider it the final distinguishable role she plays. overall, it really just depends on who you are that dictates which persona of persie you get to interact with. first there's the austere sedeina persona and then the generalized one but lastly there's the, well, less than savory one. though not all of the assassins are ones that would deal the final blow, persie would definitely be capable of it. however, she has no intentions of killing the king unless it comes to it. she likes things personal and her vendetta against the king isn't intimate in the way she likes it to be. killing without intimacy isn't as gratifying to her but it's still something she's capable of. if she must, persie will definitely kill him, but it's so much more satisfying when the kill goes to someone whose hate is more personal than hers. take lysandra for example. she knows the king much better than persie and she's obviously lost people because of his policies. persie hasn't lost people to the kingβat least people she cares forβso her hate for him is with his policies and his heart, not due to anything he's done to hurt her specifically. however, to get back to the point, the third significant role of persie is the killer. skilled with several types of weapons, persie's trained to be unbothered by blood and gore. though she's not an objectively violent person, she can be, and it's not a struggle for her. she's both hurt and killed people before. naturally, she's not the greatest killer out there but she likes to think that she's competent. however, not only is she comfortable with death, she's comfortable with torture. she's not an extreme person and things still bother her at times but she's definitely gouged out eyes before and that requires some degree of apathy to perform. she's not heartless, no, but she's able to distance herself from a victim. she only hurts people she believes deserve it (though she will make exceptions for those who get in her way). sometimes this side of her is perplexing to others and persie understands that. she's capable of being so carefree and playful that it's easy to forget that she's capable of all these other things. she only hopes the other assassins aren't bothered by this. they're here to kill the king so obviously some of them will definitely get their hands dirty with the blood of others along the way, right? in her mind, persie considers herself, silas, and nico to play this role within the group. the main objective is the king but persie is fully capable of offing other people if need be. she's sure silas and nico will do the same, too. to her, there's a method and a hierarchy to the assassins. she sees lysandra as both a deceiver and an assassin, anya as a spy and the gateway, nico as a spy and custodian, apollo as both a spy and an assassin, silas as an assassin and custodian, and herself as a potential mix of custodian and interrogator.
overall, persie's a perceptive, analytical person except for when she's obscured by emotions. even so, she's learned to keep her cool more often than not. though she isn't a hothead, she is impulsive when she's at a deeply emotional state (which you likely won't find her in) but she's able to be rational with her emotions until she hits that deep state. above all, she's an actor who is capable of hiding traits and playing on other ones to a more expressive degree. she's a lover and when she cares about someone, she cares deeply. she's not slow to fall in love and she considers that one of her greatest flaws. despite her wishes, she's quick to fall in love if she spends enough time in someone's company without growing to dislike them. however, when she falls for someone, she falls hard. she's never really experienced complete, genuine love beforeβaside from with one person (platonically, of course)βuntil more recently so that's why spending so much time with these people has led to her clinging onto them more than she'd like to. though she's still an independent person, she's learned to have trust in the other assassins (though she will always trust herself more). she cares for all of the other assassins and she'd do almost anything for them. it scares her how fast she's grown to care for them but she knows there's no going back now. she just can't grow attached to anyone else, that's all. still, she knows this tale ends in blood either wayβwhether it be hers or the king'sβshe simply can't allow herself to care for others who might get mixed up in it. it'll already hurt if any of the other assassins die and if there's anything you've learned about persie, it's that she's a lover and her emotions are both her strength and her weakness.
β€· ππππππππ ππ . . .
the witch hunts β obviously this is personal for persie. she herself harbors magical abilities and the fact that she can be put to death for it is ridiculous. she admits to being a killer and if she is to die, let it be for that and not for being born with magical powers. in other words, persie's against the whole thing.
sexism β persie's naturally against it. she's spent almost ten years of her life becoming stronger as a person so why is it so wrong to show it? it doesn't make much sense to her but it depends on which version of persie you ask. if you ask the sedeina, she would say she believes there is a natural order to things with only the goddesses being equal to their male counterparts. however, if you asked unfiltered persie, she'd tell you that all genders are equal and capable of doing the same things (of course, aside from biological differences).
homophobia β persie knows she likes women. she doesn't like labels and she isn't completely sure what to call herself but all she knows is girls girls girls. in other words, she's against it. she doesn't struggle with any internalized issues either because she's got such strong feelings and knowing that in almost every other version many of the gods are not heterosexual has helped her. in tales, the love god expresses more interest in men than in women and the moon goddess swore off men but never off women. to her, these are the true tales and not the ones the elyrians are raised with. at night, persie likes to read the original versions of mythological talesβnot the ones the elyrians translated. naturally, she hides the classic versions from others but knowing it exists validates her.

PERSIE WAS BROUGHT UP IN A HOME for abandoned children. of course, if you prefer the romantics then you might say it was home for those whose parents have passed, but persie never really cared for the prettier side. either way, things were always tough and it didn't matter how you liked to look at it. though she can't say she knows for sure, persie always liked to think that she was abandoned as a baby. it was always easier to not miss her parents that way because at least it meant they didn't even want her. despite this, it was still tough but persie found solace in religion. in fact, her current mask as a sedeina isn't a full lie. she's always wanted to pursue religion so at least this isn't completely false. however, her purpose for wanting to serve at the palace so badly is to kill the kingβplain and simple.
going back to the beginning, however, persie was raised at an orphanage ever since she was an infant. the place wasn't good but it wasn't awful either. despite being raised there for most of her life, it never felt quite comfortable. kids went in and out and sometimes you'd wake up and someone was just gone without explanation. the men and women in charge weren't all that great either. some were nice but others obviously couldn't care any less. however, there was one particular guardian at the orphanage who took a liking to persie. the woman was newer to the home, having arrived when persie herself was seven years old. her name was veera knightley. she was a mysterious woman who spoke in short, blunt dialogue while wearing unreadable expressions. after coming into contact with veera, the woman offered to train persie in the art of combat. naturally, she accepted. however, veera was never cruel to her in their training sessions. sometimes she had a temper and though it was painfully obvious that children irked her, she still seemed determined to teach persie some of her ways. growing up, persie assumed veera was some kind of assassin but no words were ever spoken on that matter. regardless, persie would meet veera late at night to be trained. since veera was exceptionally skilled with just about every weapon that existed, persie would often pick and choose what she wanted to learn (and often abandon certain ones after only a few nights). however, after nearly nine years of training, veera disappeared without any warning and it upset persie deeply. even if the woman wasn't outwardly affectionate nor too interested in basic conversation, persie had always felt connected to her. despite her more silent, unbothered ways, persie had always liked her smiles and the way her expressions subtly changed based off of context. veera was always a subtle person and persie had liked that. even if her own personality was less subtle, veera had taught her many things. for instance, slowly but surely, persephone grew better at figuring out what it was that her mentor was thinking. even if she couldn't read her thoughts, she could at least figure out what kind of thoughts she was thinking. something sad? happy? hateful? sometimes, based off of context clues, she could make more in-depth guesses. from veera, she also learned to read body language and, of course, use her abilities. like her, veera was gifted and sometimes persie wonders if that's what got the best of v, but no, that couldn't be possible. she'd have found out if that was the case. rather, veera knightley disappeared into the darkness on the night of a blood moon.
so, persie supposed there were many reasons why she was afraid of forming connections. first her parents and then veera. she'd never really been too close to any of the other kids nor any of the guardians working at the home. there was this one girl, however, who she'd liked when she was thirteen. she was like herβreligious and not completely heterosexual. they'd both liked each other and persie had thought it would've worked out but this girlβjunoβgrew up with the elyrian scripture. their friendship and near romance soured quickly after persie had made the mistake of opening up to juno about everything. not long after, juno was taken in by a family whose blood-related daughter had died in a fire. she was obviously just a replacement and though it saddened persie, she couldn't say she was too sad. if anything, she was angry. of course, there was one other person. theo. they'd grown up together and had become good friends. he was the one person who was truly reliable in persie's mind. she hopes it'll stay that way but who knows? everything can change within a single second.
however, having grown up using religion and weaponry as a fun pastime, persie's grown passionate about both. naturally, her easiest career path was with religion and at the age of fourteen, only several months after the juno situation, persie moved into a religious convent to become a sedenna. veera had followed her too. she never saw her during the day but she'd still see her at night up until the age of fifteen (nearly sixteen). it was also from veera that persie received the non-elyrian religious scriptures. she's always believed these versions of the tales to be the truth. after all, why would there be non-heterosexuals if the gods didn't will it? if the gods created almost everythingβif they provided the basic materials for mortals to create fromβthen why would they say heterosexuality is the only right way to love? love shouldn't be marked by gender, right?
lastly, there's the series of killings persie has committed. though persie believes murder is wrong, justified killings are fine. she'd always believed that but veera further solidified this mentality of hers. shortly after leaving the home for the convent, veera took her out at night into the town to meet a man. his name was austen valaryen. he was born to a high house but his position of power was low enough that he wasn't even being considered to ever be a high lord. overall, he wasn't going to be too gravely missed. he was unwed, in his early thirties, and a strange man (if we're putting it simply). v explained to her the concept of justified murder and the weight of wealth in the justice system. the task was difficult but doable. her first kill wasn't brutalβwell, not on her part. veera was more experienced and much less bothered by violence; all persie ever really did was deal the final blow. after that, things accelerated. persie and veera would hunt down wrongdoers and kill them. slowly but surely, persie developed a trademark of her own. even if persie felt an ounce of pity for her victims, she didn't feel so full of pity that she made the deaths quick and easy. slowly, the killings became more drawn-out until persie'd developed a method. she eventually only felt bad for lying about letting some of them live. she and v were all about justice even if it was unorthodox, after all. of her methods, her trademark remains the removal of one's eyes. it's brutal but it could always be worse, couldn't it? lucky for persie, she had a softer look to her in contrast to veera's harsher look. though persie admitted to veera being the more beautiful of the duo (and rightfully so, she practically worshipped the woman), she was still the one who appeared less likely to cut off your fingers. they were right, too. veera was better with cutting off fingers than persie. of course, v left when persie was nearly sixteen. maybe she'd sensed that persie was developing a schoolgirl crush on her and ran, or maybe she'd realized that she'd taught persie all she needed to and left. thinking back on it now, persie's always pondered how veera never seemed to age. in fact, she'd never learned her age. she's always guessed she was anywhere between nineteen and twenty-five yet she never seemed to appear any older. if anything, only persie was aging (though having been younger, her aging was much more obvious) but v never appeared any older than she already was. persie tried not to think about veera knightley after her disappearanceβthe same as she's worked to forget juno. of course, only a few months ago, persie received a promotion and moved into the capitol city of ivairis to work as a sedeina. having arrived at the palace to devise a plot with six others, you could say veera's less on her mind than usual.

β’ her surname was given to her by herself, hence the strangeness of it. she really liked the clash of sounds in her first name and her chosen surname. plus, von is sexy
β’ religious figures are much more brutal than they may seem, including persie
β’ she's insanely religious and though she doesn't mind atheists, she likes to go on about mythological tales and other things pertaining to her religion
β’ she's a chaotic yet functional gay who prefers mythological tragedies and gay mythological romances β¨β¨β¨
β’ you already know she's removed an eyeball or two πππ
β’ persie doesn't enjoy hurting people but she's perfectly capable of it. however, she really only hurts the bad people (unless she has to eliminate someone else for a greater purpose)
β’ persie labels herself mostly as fitting the custodian and interrogator role due to her affinity for several torture methods. she doesn't enjoy itβnoβbut she has the stomach to go through with some of these things if she has a clear goal in mind. she also labels herself as such because she's inclined to take out any other threats besides the king, opting to hopefully leave him for one of her other peers to eliminate
β’ here's a brief intermission for a moodboard i made and spent too long filtering and color-editing ππ¨
β’ like many religious figures, persie identifies with certain gods more than others. for her, she identifies mostly with . . .
liliya β goddess of death, plague, famine, and treachery
laurent β god of love, emotion, beauty, discord, and grace
valyria β goddess of the moon, the night, and the hunt
β’ she's skilled with the crossbow, the recurve bow, and throwing daggers. she's moderately decent with dual blades, too, but she's not put in a lot of work yet
β’ most notably, she is best with the crossbow and throwing daggers. she cares less for the recurve bow and only ever grew to learn it since it was veera's favorite
β’ she has her mind set on becoming some great weapons master in the future but she's still young and learning
β’ she wants to learn the chakram and the flamberge so badly. like, ngl but those are kinda sexc
β’ i don't know how to make high quality gifs so this is what you get π
β’ despite her side gig as a killer with an affinity for several torture methods, she's a very loving person and would never do anything to hurt those she loves
