BULLYING. as standard for every roleplay, bullying is not acceptable. rude characters, of course, are allowed, but i won't tolerate rude behavior directed towards other admins. remember that things translate different online than in person (sarcasm doesn't translate well) so if you're writing something that might sound rude if someone doesn't understand the sarcastic intent, make sure to put something like jk or lol after just so there aren't any mixups. if people are already friends and they don't need to convey that it's a joke more clearly when together then that's fine but i'd like to avoid any unnecessary drama.
πππ !
ROLES. there's a ton of them so i won't assign a limit. however, major roles will be put before the unlimited roles (like children of the minor houses). in addition, though there isn't a role limit, you can't take more than one female foreign royal (because of their plotline) and if you take more than one foreign royal they either have to be both male or one male and one female (and of different kingdoms). anyways, plot-important characters are more important than the non-plot important ones and therefore they should be taken before the unlimited roles. however, if you know you're not a very active person then don't take one of the major roles. take a less major role instead.

DRAMA. this rp is literally some messed up medieval drama so uh, idk what you expected. these characters are meant to be ambitious, sly, brutal, and sometimes nobleβthey are not sweet little princesses waiting for their prince in their respective towers (actually, if your oc is in the tower then they're waiting for their execution) but anyways, these are not morally perfect characters. most of these characters should be morally gray, they should make mistakes and they should cause drama because that's unavoidable. some characters seek out drama and others try to stay away but no matter their stance, there's always going to be something when you mix in petty nobles with this kind of cutthroat system. in addition, murder plots! it's! a! main! theme! so plot some!!!! although they probably won't succeed but still!!!! password one: who is your favorite historical figure? if you don't have one, then tell me this: would you rather live in england or france?
ππππ !
DEATH & SEVERE INJURIES OR ILLNESSES. medieval times have medieval solutions. vaccines don't exist so your character cannot just cut themself on a rusty nail and be completely fine. they'll need medical attention to help prevent infection and, you guessed it, maybe even tetanus. of course, they may end up just fine but some cases end up being more serious. so, if your character gets an injury, there's a chance they'll get an infection and potentially die. of course, that leads me to death. characters cannot be killed without an admin's permission. this roleplay is going to be death-heavy (the majority will likely be backgrounds executed every other day or something) but you can't have your oc kill someone else's oc without permission. if someone is inactive for a while without giving me a reason for their hiatus, their character(s) will be killed off or replaced. in addition, some ocs just have to go. your oc can't make the dumbest decisions and not expect to pay for them. sometimes you just have to be rational and think, hmm, she just tried to kill the prince in broad daylight, there's no way she'll make it out of that situation alive. lastly, going to back to illness and injury, just remember that these things could be deadly. a mere cut could get infected and could lead to more serious illnesses. INFECTIOUS DISEASES. PLAGUES!!! of course, it'll be in the plot points of a chapter if some lethal epidemic breaks out but just be wary. don't drink unsanitary water people! that's all!
ππππ !
BIG DECISIONS. before your character gets pregnant, before your character contracts a lethal illness, before your character suddenly dies, consult us! if it potentially interferes with the plot, if it's a big decision that doesn't add to the plot, or if it's potentially triggering, talk to me! we can come to an agreement on whether it can be included or not (or if it just has to wait a little longer before it can happen). this doesn't apply to most things but some big things need to be brought up to us beforehand so we're not suddenly caught off guard. (sorry for the constant change in pronouns, jenna's writing this but i keep forgetting eris is also here lol).
πππ !
GENETICS. bro, idc what race your character is so long as their siblings are of the same race (if they have any siblings). it'll be weird when one sibling is white and the other is asian. full-blooded siblings need to be of the same race (or all can be mixed, etc). half-siblings can be a little different but they should bear some resemblance. the trueborn child's race will mirror their parents' (or they'll be mixed) while a bastard will reflect just one parent along with a different person. logically speaking, a continent in medieval times would be pretty homogenous with very little diversity but screw that, do what you want so long as everything lines up. some high houses already have parameters due to other character descriptions but most are customizable and up to you. if your character has a sibling not played by you, communicate with the other person about face claims.

BE LITERATE & BE ACTIVE. for starters, i'm not asking you to submit 6000 character responses but i am asking for a lengthy reply between, say, 1000-2000 characters at minimum. i understand if replies end up being shorter and yes, it is acceptable but 1000-2000 is still the target length. in addition, be active! you don't need to send 20 replies per day but you must send at least 2 replies per day at minimum (if you can't, let us know). i've been very lenient in the past and it hasn't done anything so i'm going to be stricter with this now. i am understanding when people don't reply so i'll hand out some free passes depending on the situation but 2 long replies per day should only take about 30 minutes elapsed (except for the gods out there that spend an hour crafting their little masterpieces. u do u lol i'm so sorry). anyways, just don't ghost, okay? let me know if you can't be active for a period of time or if you're going to drop out. don't make me track you down lol.
πππππ !
TIME PERIOD. i cannot stress this enough. this roleplay has heavy medieval european inspiration (primarily western europe but majorly england and france). therefore, the society is oppressive. it's heavily classistβthe lowest class will find it extremely difficult if it's even possible to get up to a higher tier. in addition, this society is sexist and homophobic (fun times-) and that'll be reflected in teachings, gender roles, and characters. so, not all characters should be liberals but we're totally for a lot of them being liberals. also, it's possible for someone to be stuck in the middle. they can be someone who believes in gender roles but doesn't feel super strong either way. also for characters who are sexist and/or homophobic, they don't have to be making their views heard all the time (that's like beating a dead horse. that's old news). by that i mean they don't have to say something sexist or homophobic every 2 seconds. i'm not trying to justify it though, i'm just saying their political and social views don't need to be shoved into everyone else's faces every other second. again, there are many different degrees of these ideologies. some might be all: "oh, ladies shouldn't curse" and frown down upon those who do and some might be all: "she cursed? well, kill her" and that's on the extremist side. soooo yeah. lastly, these are some of the things the mains are working to try and resolve towards the end so this is kind of like an invisible enemy you have to try and kill. yeah. okay, that's all. password two: tag five people who may be interested (there's a lot of roles oops).
ππππ !
SENSITIVE TOPICS & WARNINGS. kind of going off of rule eight of remembering the time period, also know that this roleplay isn't for everyone. this roleplay is in no way, shape, or form, attempting to romanticize sexism or homophobia but is rather using it as a contextual theme in the roleplay. this roleplay centers around murder plots, lethal family ambition & vanity, overthrowing tyrants, and rebuilding an oppressive society into a more just one. that's the plot in its simplest form. so, all of the bad things that happen here are things meant to be tackled and taken out by the end. considering how things work, these things won't go out the window just like that but you know, that's one of the objectives. now, moving onto deeper topics like rape/sexual abuse, underage characters in relationships with non-underage characters, and physical/mental/verbal abuse, i'll just go ahead and say that this stuff will not be roleplayed. given the time context, these things would have been much more excusable than they are today but these things shouldn't be roleplayed and they aren't allowed here. these things will be allowed in character backstories and they may be mentioned or alluded to but there will be no roleplaying of things like sexual assault, abuse, or a 13 year old being with a 30 year old. lastly, given the nature of the time, people were eligible for marriage around age 12/13 depending on gender but we decided 16 would be a better middle ground, however, there will be no roleplaying of that stuff. there will be age difference stuff but all characters will be 18+ if they're going to be involved with someone older. in the king's history, he has married underage girls and that will be mentioned but that's as far as it goes. again, just to reiterate: these deeper, more sensitive topics may be mentioned or used in character backgrounds but be careful about it. know the facts and do your research about how these things affect people later on. in addition, this stuff won't go to PMs either like smut would. i don't want this stuff happening explicitly at all in this roleplay. it can be mentioned or used in a backstory but that's as far as this goes. cool?
πππ !
SMUT & ROMANCE. smut goes to PMs although this was already kind of mentioned. as for romance, of course that's all cool but again, time period. if your character is in a homosexual relationship, keep it hidden from the public. and premarital sex? that stuff is taboo af so if you're having premarital sex, make sure you marry that person or else people will ridicule your oc (they still will even if your oc marries the same person β if they find out, i mean). if your character engages in premarital sex and then marries someone else, they could literally be put to death if they married someone powerful enough (girls only oof). in addition, women engaging in adultery when married to a king or a powerful male royal can be put to death for high treason bc girls can't have bastards but boys can π₯΄π₯΄. now, for women committing adultery while married to a high noble, well, they can't be executed for treason but they can be locked away and their marriage may be annulled so, like, be cautious of that. now, for men committing adultery (so long as it's with a woman), well, they might just deal with some scorn if they have a bastard and that's that. if the woman comes from a powerful family or if she comes from a higher station than him, he could get into some trouble depending on how the wife and her family reacts to it but that's about it.
ππππππ !
TONE. okay so this isn't super big BUT tone is important. this roleplay takes place in a medieval setting and a character's tone should be formal. your oc should not be showing off their middle finger to the king and they shouldn't be shouting "no cap" or something like that. now, i'm not going to bring back all of the weird medieval slang they used to have but i'm saying that in the roleplay your character shouldn't be saying modern slang like: tea, cap/no cap, or whatever else there is. of course, words like tea are useable in the proper context. now, characters can be silly and goofy a good portion of the time but it's important to remember audience. these people were uptight and you could not just do and say anything and not expect to be criticized for it. lastly, um, some slang terms are replaceable given time period. if you wanted to say dick or pussy (iM CHORTLING WTF AM I WRITINGG) but anyways, gIVEN time context, they'd say cock or cunt . . . okay, i'm c o n c l u d e d. so, um, tone & slang!
ππππππ !
HELPFUL TIP. this isn't necessarily a rule but please add this to your library if you plan on joining so you can get updates. i will be tagging for certain chapters but for most i will not and it's up to you to receive the notifications and the only way you'll get updates is through adding this to your library. however, that is just a recommendation so you do whatever you want to do.
ππππππππ !
PASSWORDS. so, you've finally reached the end. i am so sorry for subjecting you guys to reading all of that if you read it. there are two passwords scattered throughout the rule page (they will be the last sentence bc i don't want to torture you guys trying to find it in the middle lol) and they will be in italics. however, the final password is: for the roleplay, do you have any big questions that you would like us to answer? this roleplay is complex and we'd like to make this as easy and comprehensible as possible so ask as many questions as you'd like and we'll answer them all. we understand that things like politics, laws, reasons for execution, methods of execution, legality stuff, how persecution works, and other societal-based stuff can be difficult to keep track of (as well as things pertaining to the plot and the religious system) so we'll be happy to answer any questions you have. there will be other chapters coming out later that will explain some things but they might not explain everything soooo πβοΈ ask if you'd like. if you have no questions, say: no questions for the third password.
in addition, if you'd like to help eris & i admin stuff, let us know! we definitely need some help and other admins would help guide others and they'd have permission to play some major characters that e & i play. lastly, they'd get to know some plot stuff ahead of time so that they can help soooo let us know if you're interested. thanks!
