HAPPY, FLIRTATIOUS, AND PLAYFUL are several ways to describe eliya's antics but mischievous, deceitful, and manipulative are other ways to describe the same traits. in general, eliya comes off as a joyful, playful person and perhaps even a little air-headed although everyone who knows her is well aware that she isn't so stupid as she may seem at times. and despite elyrian standards of chastity and their stigma against premarital sex, eliya is a major hoe. however, eliya doesn't really seek the emotion aspect of relationships. in fact, she doesn't like it when people get all sentimental because she's not good at connecting with people on that level. honestly, eliya's really just a person who doesn't know how to comfort others or deal with emotions so she prefers her relationships to be superficial. but hey, no one can be used against you if your bond with them isn't emotional. of course, eliya does have several good friends and family members that she does care for and sometimes she hates that she cares for them but at the same time, she doesn't know who she'd be if she didn't have any love in her heart. of course, eliya isn't a heartless person but she does try to shove down her feelings for both her own sake and for the sake of others.

however, going along with eliya's disposition, she is a very happy person externally. internally, she has her struggles but she's not a sad person either. she has difficulty making emotional bonds but she doesn't have an intense amount of inner turmoil. in addition, eliya's a flirt but she doesn't go around flirting with everyone. she's not stupid enough to do that. in fact, she knows well enough that she could make enemies that way and she isn't about to get in any big trouble for that kind of stuff. but, by nature, eliya's a pretty sensual person. though she can't be pegged as being touchy-feely, eliya's a much more physical than emotional person if that wasn't already obvious. and since we've already covered the fact that eliya's a hoe, i truly did mean it. honestly, her libido could probably come close to matching the king's if she weren't so picky with lovers. eliya really only chooses people she doesn't feel intimidated by. eliya's a sucker for power balance so she's not down for people she deems as annoying and petulant. at the end of the day, eliya prefers to be on equal ground with lovers because if she isn't then she'd have no standards at all.

thirdly, eliya's a bit of a cynic. being someone motivated by selfish reasons and being surrounded by people motivated by the same self-serving ideals, she can't not be one. it does lower her expectations of people by a lot but she's learned that most people suck and you know what, who cares anyways? everyone's selfish so there's no use dwelling on it. it's also partially due to this that eliya prefers physical or non-emotional relationships to strong emotional bonds. but beyond that, eliya's a mischievous person and she does enjoy getting under people's skins. of course, she's selective with who she annoys and flirts with. she's not here to piss off the king, she's here to piss off the lesser nobles or perhaps those equal to her. she finds it quite fun to mess with people. honestly, eliya likes to watch people lose their temper. it's comedic in her eyes because something about people losing their self-control is strange yet hilarious.

however, eliya's intentions are rarely ever pure and she's a deceitful and manipulative person who usually doesn't care about the feelings of others. for her house, eliya wouldn't mind hurting some people and though there are certain people she'd prefer not to backstab, she probably would do it if it were asked of her. despite this, eliya is a very loyal person but blood is thicker than water and at the end of the day, eliya is more loyal to her family than she is to friends (though this may be prone to change). and despite eliya's happy, carefree behavior, eliya's got a lot going through her mind. even when she isn't happy, eliya keeps up that mask because it is, in a sense, her armor. she's a liar, too, and she considers herself an extractor. she likes to draw information from others without ever discussing things about her. with the ability to be charming when she wants to be, eliya has a way to extract information from others although it seems plenty are immune to her charms and speech. as for being manipulative, well, eliya simply isn't above manipulating others for her house or even her own personal gain. as i've said, we're all selfish here and eliya isn't much different. of course, her loyalty sometimes gets in the way of this quality and that's where there's an internal clash of loyalty and morality against selfishness and manipulation. however, eliya is a person who won't blackmail others. she'll let her house do it for her but she isn't able to bring herself to do that to others. manipulative and deceitful as she is, she won't use things against others except for on rare occasions if she really despises a person.

the witch hunts — sure, it's wrong, but eliya's got different things on her agenda. if she watched the people burn perhaps then she'd have a stronger stance but she hasn't. for eliya, hearing something can't move her but seeing things can. in this case, however, eliya hasn't witnessed any witch executions except for two in which cases these magic users had actually done bad things with magic. however, eliya knows they aren't all that way.
sexism — eliya's a lot like the woman she was named for; she's confident, bold, happy, mischievous, but honestly? she doesn't much care. though she likes the idea of equal rights, eliya herself isn't someone who cares to wield a sword or who wants to ride into battle. she's fine doing things the female way. also, being highborn means that she is above many men so it's not like she's at the bottom anyways. of course, the idea that her wielding any weaponry is frowned upon does irk her and the fact that stefan's past wives were put to death over bullshit reasons pisses her off. so to speak, eliya's against sexism but her stance isn't strong enough for her to care too much.
homophobia — it's annoying. eliya can kind of understand sexism but this is something she doesn't understand. plenty of elyrians like romance and sex so why is it only legal for it to occur between a man and a woman? what? are they going to pretend they had sex strictly for having a child? well, they could say that but it wouldn't be wholly true. although, maybe some couples are just doing their duty but that's rarely the case. and if this is the case, how come people of the same gender can't experience the same joys and pleasures as heterosexuals?

ELIYA GREW UP THE ONLY DAUGHTER of her family. having been born last, eliya was the spoiled child. her parents were never quite proud of their eldest but they were seemingly more fond of their second two children. however, their family was a rather tight-knit one that shared their secrets and their ambitions with one another. the whole family—even aunts and uncles, grandmothers and grandfathers—were close with them. eliya often says she really won the lottery when it came to family. since she grew up in an accepting family that protected their own regardless of their sexual orientation, their gender, and their secrets, eliya always knew she had a safe space. however, this can be a bad thing when someone in the family commits a crime. being such a close, loyal family, it's frowned upon for one to betray another or tell their secrets. luckily, no one in the family has done that (yet) and should anyone betray that unspoken code, it's certain the rest of the family would turn against them. so, growing up, eliya was always very open with her loved ones. they were a family that plotted and schemed together and didn't judge each other for errors. of course, her parents were not above transferring inheritance to their younger son once they deemed their eldest not mature enough. although, personally, eliya believes neither are very mature. if anything, she might be the most mature. however, she understands why they'd give it to their second son—he was more serious, perhaps. although, eliya knows well enough he's another phony but she loves him all the same.

later, when eliya was twelve years old, her mother, who was raised as an assassin, decided to teach her some basic defense moves. of course, eliya thought it was fun but eliya has never been interested in fighting. she prefers verbal arguments to physical fights, to be honest. eliya's always been stronger with words than with her fists. however, her mother also wanted her to know how to kill and so she taught eliya how to use throwing knives and she showed her where all the major arteries were just in case. after all, you can bleed out quite fast if a major artery is badly injured. and though eliya's never killed before, she's been prepared well enough and since she learned, she's been practicing nearly every day. in addition, eliya tends to wear a band around her left thigh which serves as a holster for several sharp throwing knives and daggers. generally, eliya carries her weapons around almost everyday. ever since the fall of the storms, there's not really been much security so it helps knowing she can at least stand a chance. of course, eliya's never been that interested in fighting and she doubts she ever will.

however, eliya was named after the king's second wife which does come with burdens of its own. naturally, the name is a little distasteful considering eliya had been executed for treason—as had one eliya ii's uncles—so, the name certainly comes with some negative connotations. regardless, most people knew eliya was innocent of her charges and her family completely stands by that. of course, eliya was born before the death of her aunt so if anyone ever pointed it out, they could simply mention the fact that she was named before the second queen's death. still, eliya likes her name and her namesake. plus, it makes messing with people much easier and when is that not a bonus? although, there are negatives to her name as mentioned but another might be her striking similarity to her predecessor. though the first eliya didn't sleep around, their personalities are strikingly similar in many other aspects.
