β the royal family.
the rulers of khalidi belong to house kaleros and they've been the monarchs since khalidi was formed and have never been dethroned by anyone who wasn't a kaleros themselves. the royal family is known for being warriors through and through and when a ruler becomes unworthy, sometimes they would be removed from power by a sibling or child in an often bloodless manner. it's just the khalidan way. however, there's something interesting about this new generation of khalidans: they've got wolves for pets. dogs are really nothing special, let's be honest, but wolves are notorious for their untamable quality when compared to dogs. however, a few years ago the young royals took in lost wolf pups to raise as their own companion (until death or perhaps until one killed the other if they were incompatible). there are four kaleros youths, the youngest having one and the eldest three having two each. however, they do have one older brother who sits upon the throne. he had two wolves but one has since died.

β politics & government.
khalidan politics differ strongly from elyrian beliefs and, truthfully, khalidans despise elyrians but they've forged an alliance with them because they aren't certain they'd win a war against them. with the other kingdoms conquered, the khalidans certainly don't want to be next. however, the khalidans share a few things with the elyrians. one being their monarchy. the khalidans have a monarchal government advised by a king or queen's council. this council is filled with the most influential khalidan military and political figures and this council is constantly being changed to suit a new monarch. that's one of the differences between the two main kingdoms. besides the royals, the people with the most wealth tend to be born into a lower class but work themselves up through politics and military. the khalidans covet strength and loyalty above all else and it shows in how they reward those who follow these principles. in addition, the khalidan military has always been the strongest of all of the countries (discounting magic and dragons) and that's because it's ingrained into the minds of their people that to be great they must be killers. it is surprisingly rare to meet a khalidan who has not killed someone if they are over the age of 25. when enlisting in the military, recruits also perform executions as a kind of introduction to killing once they've completed their first stage of training. anyways, moving along, the khalidans are a very liberal people. if someone has the ability to wield any weapon with (eventual) practiced skill then they have the same rights as everyone else. khalidi does not harbor a sexist or homophobic environment and their military is almost equal halves male and female (including non-cisgendered people). however, mental health is heavily stigmatized in khalidi so that's something people have to keep on the down low. in addition, the age of marriage consent is younger than the one set in elyria since khalidans must be 14 to be eligible for marriage but 16 for premarital sexual relationships. as for standards, premarital sex, though frowned upon for royals, isn't taboo. the khalidans, though not an insanely lustful people, are much more open about their sexuality, past sexual experiences, and sexual preferences. they're certainly more open about their sex life than elyria. 100%. lastly, as for high houses, well, there are wealthy families who have existed for years but they are not considered high houses. to be a high house, you have to work to have a sway over politics and military. if your family continues on this path for years, you may become seen as a high house. anyways, in khalidi, though some things are rigged for the rich, everyone does have to work for something greater (even royals β the khalidan royals are well known for overthrowing each other when a ruler becomes too weak to be seen as fit). lastly, pertaining to coups, khalidan royals sometimes overthrow a monarch if they don't see them as fit to rule. sometimes they will be bloodless and if there is a particular animosity within the family, they will kill each other. that's all, oops.

β terrain.
khalidi is a harsh, northern kingdom and most of its terrain is cold though not barren. the khalidan land is full of woodlands, rivers and lakes, and manmade clearings. though winters are rough, summers are not prayed for when winter hits. if anything, khalidans embrace the winter. lastly, their capitol city, keres, a beautiful economic district, is home to summerfall palace (where the royals reside).

β religion.
khalidans are not a very devout people. they are commonly loosely religious but the majority believe in the same gods the elyrians do. some may be atheistic or believe in other practices, though, and religious differences aren't as big of an issues as they are in elyria. after all, religion isn't a big deal to them.

β fashion.
pants > dresses is very much the khalidan style. you're more likely to see people dressed in practical fighting leathers or simple tunics and pants than in fancy suits or dresses. of course, people of all genders get dressed up for occasions and just for fun but commonly it isn't the style. khalidans spend a lot of their time doing athletic activities. they hunt, the kids play tag, they engage in combat training, and they just like to move around a lot. people who like to move would rather be comfortable in training clothes than uncomfortable in their fancy attire. it is also customary to see at least one weapon on a khalidan's body (commonly strapped to their back or at their hip) and it's usually not threatening unless you're an inexperienced fighter. now, as for jewelry, it isn't as common as it is seen in elyria but people do wear an assortment of things like necklaces, bracelets, brooches, earrings, and more. usually jewelry is worn for fancy events more often than with everyday wear but sometimes you see it on people all of the time.
