16. family reunion

I couldn't stop thinking about that ugly deviant. It was making me stress out, they're back, which means we have to come back together again. All day I had that in my head, replaying the fight from the morning.

"You okay?" Foggy asked me as I shoved a whole sandwich into my mouth. "You're stress eating." I was. Shit. Ive been eating since the morning and couldn't stop.

"Really?" I shoved fries into my mouth. "I didn't notice." I pointed at his plate. "You gonna eat that?" Foggy slides his plate to me.

"Whats wrong? Penny for a thought?"

"Nothing-" should i? Should i tell them? Try explaining how deviants are back, no wait! Try explaining what are deviants will give them heart attacks. "Its just I saw something that I've haven't seen in a very long, longg, longgg time." The waiter brought more food, making me dig in more.

"Your ex?" My head shot up.

"No!" I laughed off. "Why you seen him?" I scanned the restaurant.

"Uhhh no."

"Celeste whats really going on?" Matt leans in. I took a deep breath and set my plate to the side.

"Its just I saw this thing- PERSON" i corrected myself. "i saw this person, that I thought I would never see it again. Its been years. Im just still trying to wrap my head around this." I have to call Sersi! She has to know. Ajak! I have to tell her! Ajak would've called me...

"Maybe avoid it! Thats what i do." Foggy nods. Only if I could. I wish it was that easy. "By the looks of it, looks like you cant."

"Celeste, who is this person?" I just looked at the two, looked down at my watch and brushed my hair back.

"I have to go, im sorry." I placed my half of the check, patted Foggys back and Matts and left. I was all over the place, with everything going on, if something happens, if someone pops up from the past, i will explode. Everything second I would look out the window to see if anything, i was was so paranoid.

But hours past by and nothing happened, I just figured, maybe I was just doing too much. What I just need is a deep breath. I went on with my lessons, doing what I do best.

"And so, in Tencochtitlan-" the bell rang. Students rushed out the door and plugged in their headphones. "Remember that tomorrow we have that movie!" MJ and Ned walked up to me at my desk.

"Ms Von, there's some people out there, standing awkwardly behind the window." She pointed at the door. "Why is that one holding a camera?" At the window, there were four familiar faces and one that was holding a camera. I turned white. Its was Kingo, Sersi, Spirte and Ikaris. I dropped my computer as I was too stunned. Oh hell no. MJ and Ned headed out, staring down at them. They all came in but Ikaris stayed outside the classroom.

"Whatever you have to say, i dont wanna hear it." I told them as I packed up my stuff.

"Hello Celeste, how are you? Oh im good! Thanks for asking." I rolled my eyes at Kingo. I moved past them, bumping into Ikaris. We stood there, chest out, ready to let out some steam after years.

"We have to tell you something."

"Nope, I'm living the dream after we all separated. Excuse me, schools out and I have to go." I teleported at home. My head was pounding as I couldn't take anymore surprise hits.

"Hey." Matt walks in. He took off his blazer and placed it on the couch. I walked up to him, he sensed something was wrong. He put his hands on my arms. "I know somethings wrong."

"Just a lot is going on." I rubbed my face. "You dont wanna hear it." Matt rubs my cheek with his thumb.

"What if I do?"

"Matt..." i sighed. "My life is very complicated and long."

"You know mine, I know complicated."

"Not like mine." I headed to the kitchen and started to make something, again, the nerves. I was too busy thinking. There was a knock on the door, thinking it was Foggy or Karen. Soon as I opened the door, everyone was standing in front of me. How in the hell did they find me?!

"We need to talk." Ikaris strutted in, pushing me through to get in my home. If they could see, smoke was coming out of my ears. Kingo was showing the same guy with the camera around, Sersi and Sprite were okay, they were just standing.

"Yeah we do." I pushed Ikaris to the door but I couldn't. "Leave!"

"It's important." Sersi comes up to me.

"After years of no text, call, i dont want to hear it. You!" I pointed at Kingo. "You left Sprite with me, you just dropped her off my doorstep." Then at Sprite. "You left.." i looked at Ikaris. "I didn't really care about you."

"Im Kuran." He sticks out his hand. I slowly took it.

"Celeste?" Matt came out of my room and everyone turned to him. Oh no. Ikaris walks up to him, Matt chuckles a bit due to the awkwardness.

"Leave him alone." I went to separate him from Matt. "They were just leaving." I pushed Ikaris to the door again.

"Im Matt." Dear lord.

"Kingo." He went to shake Matts hand but, you know. Kingo waited patiently but then realized that he was blind and closed his hand. "Whats your status with Celeste?"

"Neighbors." Ikaris laughs.

"You seem more than neighbors." Ikaris coughs up.

"Watch it." I growled. We stared each other down, Sprite rolled her eyes and walked to Matt. I grabbed her arm.

"What happened to you Celeste? You used to be so-"

"I was until you all came back into my life." I stood next to Matt, looking at them in a line. "Whats so important that you came to bother me?"

"We dont need her. She's just a waste of time." Ikaris scuffs.

"Celeste..." Sersi steps up. "Ajak's dead." My heart fell.

"No." I backed up, shaking my head in disbelief. "Shes not. You're lying."

"We're not, shes gone."

"Ajak's not gone! She's Ajak! She could hea herself for crying out loud!" Sprite had taken Matt away from me. He tried to comfort me but I stood back. Sersi tried to reach for me but I snapped. "Dont."

"Im sorry Celeste, I know how much she meant to you." She was like a mother to me. I was supposed to see her next week. Memories of her flashed back, making me calm down, finally realized that shes now gone. I took a seat on my couch and looked at them with teary eyes.

"Who." I looked at them. "Who did it?" Ikaris seemed out of it, more like at fault.

"They're back." The earthquake, the deviants were back. It all made sense.

"I should've known." I shook my head. "I killed one this morning, the earthquake, I could've stopped it." My eyes turned green from anger. Sersi placed her hand on mine, calming me down.

"You didn't know. None of us did. We couldn't stop it even if we tried."

"You're 7000 years old?" I turned my head to see Matt and Sprite. Of course she told him. I slowly stood up, wiping my hands on my skirt, taking him away from the group.

"Okay, imma say this and try not to freak out, okay? So, 7000 years ago, we were sent to save humans from Deviants. What we thought we did, we killed them all, we spent our lives away, living amongst the humans, hoping, we can go back home. But nothing really happened until now, these deviants are back and Ajak is... we have to stop these deviants again." I spat out. It took Matt a minute to gather everything, one, how im over 7000 years old, two, im a alien.

"I can now realize why that you didn't want to start dating." He smirks slightly. Matt knew that I felt bad and kissed my cheek. "I can keep this secret, like you kept mine. Im fine with that."

"You are the most, kindest man I've ever met in my life." I chuckled with tears. My hand ran up his chest and kissed him. "Im sorry Matt." I whispered to him as I pulled away.

"Maybe we were just meant to be friends." He pulled my hair out of the way. "I think someone is here." I turned to see Kingo and Kuran by the doorway of my room. I slammed the door in their faces. "I guess I have to let you go, huh?"

"You're a great guy Matt, you'll find your way. Just promise me that you'll be careful, please? Fisk is still out there."

"Dont worry about me, worry about those deviants, okay?" I nodded my head and gave him one last hug. We awkwardly walked out of my room and walked him out of my room. I placed my head in the door and waited for the comments to come in from Ikaris.

"A human, interesting." Ikaris scuffs. And it begins.

"You leaving Sersi, interesting." I crossed my arms. "Does this mean we have to see everyone?"

"Everyone." Sprite said. "That includes-"

"I know." Druig. I felt the same feeling I felt when I used to think about him. Now, I have to see him after all these years.

"We know that you know where he is. We need your help to shift him to helping us." Sersi walks up to me. Great... "We are going to see Gilgamesh and Thena, then are you ready?"

"Its been 200 years, what's gonna happen?"
