unlucky partnership. ╱ season one, episode one.
EDEN WAS NEVER the one to enjoy sports, she never had an interest in them. The blonde saw them as something that would make her annoyed. She wasn't the best with hand-eye coordination so her options were slim to none sports-wise. She liked to stick to more indoor activities. Eden had a wonderful knack for art. It was something that gave her a chance to breathe. From a young age, she had a wonderful talent for it, and as she grew it only got stronger.
Creativity just came naturally to her, there wasn't a moment where her hand wasn't diving into her sketchbook. It was the only place where she showed her true colors. It wasn't the bleak and dark person she portrayed on the outside, this Eden was more complex, with layers that gave her depth and more character.
Growing up art was her favorite subject, any class that let her escape from the world around her was heaven in her eyes. Art class had always been a class that Eden counted on to give ease, it was a place where she could go off and forget about everything around her for an hour straight. Eden's room had always been covered with art supplies, and even with being here for only a few days, Eden's desks and dressers were already covered with materials she planned on using for her art projects.
Everyone admired that soft and vulnerable side of Eden that came with her artistic vision. All her family was envious of her talent, it was a thing that took up most of her time. Her favorite thing to do was drop everything after school and lock herself in her room while she was splayed out on her floor, drawing and making the ideas that flooded through her brain come to life. Eden had already masked the plain white of her walls with her painted canvases and tapestries, but still, boxes remained unopened and spread across her room.
Eden wished more than anything to be sprawled across her carpeted floor, but instead, cold air washes over her body as she sits between Piper and Allison as they watch a sport Eden has no interest in. And to make it more confusing, it wasn't even a game, they were watching a boring practice. Eden blocked out all the yells from the coach and groups of people that remain in the stands. Her eyes were focused on the page of her sketchbook, finding that much more interesting than the events around her. She huddled more into her leather jacket, regretting the decision of wearing a skirt today.
Piper looks equally disinterested as her eyes constantly waved from the field and back to her book. Eden actually didn't mind the girl sitting next to her, she was surprised at that. With the way Lydia instantly annoyed the ever-loving shit out of her, she expected Piper to have the same energy. But the brown-haired girl was different, she was actually quite funny and made Eden laugh throughout their conversation. Allison seemed a little preoccupied with Lydia, which Eden was happy with, as she didn't have to deal with the high-pitched bragging she does when she talks about Jackson. Eden already hated Jackson, from one look at his smug features she knew they would never get along.
Eden felt eyes on her, the gaze made her tense up. Glancing up, she was met with Piper's eyes glued to her sketchbook. Without thinking Eden sent her an exaggerated look, "Need something?"
"Huh? what?" The brunette snapped out of her trance and met Eden's slightly hostile gaze. The girl shook her head and gave the blonde a soothing smile, "I was just looking at what you were drawing, you're really great,"
"Thank you, Piper," The blonde sent her a grateful smile before looking down at her page again.
"Yeah, no problem!" Piper gushed, her lips twisted brightly upward as she looked at the abstract flowers drawn across the page, "I wish I could do that, but I can barely draw a proper stick figure,"
Eden snorted, eyes filled with amusement, "Sometime, I'll teach you some simple techniques I learned when I first started,"
Piper gasped excitedly, a hand clasping her chest lightly, "Wait seriously?"
Eden nodded in response, giving Piper an amused smile, "If you'd like,"
"I would love to, oh my god, I can't wait to do it,"
"Well, just tell me when you're free and then we can plan," Eden mentioned, eyes still glued to her page as she created a swirl with her flower stem.
Piper nodded eagerly even if Eden couldn't see it, "I'll have to talk with Lydia to see if we have any plans this weekend, but if we don't, I'm so coming to your house,"
"Sounds like a plan Piper, I'm totally cool with that," The blonde responded as she sent Piper a smile in return.
Eden's chest was filled with slight excitement, it had been a long time since she had made a friend, and she hoped that Piper would like to be friends with her. There was something about Piper being interested in what she was making that made her mood completely change. Piper had made her feel grateful that someone was drawn to something she liked. Usually, with talking to someone, Eden immediately wanted the conversation to be over, but Piper seemed so genuinely interested in what she had to say that it made Eden wanna keep talking to her.
But unfortunately, the conversation ceased to nothing, only the light cheers from the crowd filled Eden's ears. Her hands began to get cold and it was too much for her to bear, so she ended up shoving her sketchbook and pencils into her bag right before she tucked her hands into her jacket. Her eyes wavered between the players on the field. She could hear the conversations between Allison and Lydia, but she didn't bother paying attention. Eden tuned them out as she watched the boy in goal continuously catch the balls getting chucked at him. Without knowing anything about the game, Eden was already impressed with the boy's skills.
Eden nudged Piper's shoulder lightly to get her attention, "Hey who's that?"
"That's Scott McCall," Piper replied, eyes still on the boy who continued to catch the ball like it was absolutely nothing. "Our mothers are really good friends,"
"So you guys are close?" Eden questioned.
Piper snorted, causing a look of confusion to cross Eden's face, "Not anymore, Lydia would have my head if I hung out with people like him, he's very low on the social ladder, along with his best friend Stiles,"
Eden had a guess as to who he was, as the buzzcut boy from her English class trailed behind Scott as soon as class ended. "The buzzcut kid right?"
Piper nodded, slight surprise gracing her features, "How'd you know?"
Eden shrugged, "BuzzCut and Scott are in my English class and he was immediately up Scott's ass as soon as class ended,"
Piper laughed lightly and nodded, "Sounds like Stiles, him and Scott are pretty much a package deal,"
"Unfortunately, I have him in a ton of my classes, and he's loud as hell in every one of them," Eden mentioned, her eyes rolling in the process.
"You can thank this ADHD for that, the kid never stops talking," Piper explained, "But I think you'd like him if you got to know him, he was a really sweet friend to me back in middle school,"
Eden sent her a sarcastic glance, "I highly doubt that, he annoys me already and I've said barely ten words to him,"
"With your luck, I bet you'll get partnered with him," Piper joked.
Eden glared at Piper, lightly shoving the brunette playfully, "Don't you ever wish that upon me,"
Piper smiled mischievously, "Just for that, I hope that it happens,"
"I hate you,"
"You know, I don't think that's true," Piper remarked, a smug smile plastered on her face, "In fact, I think I'm your new best friend,"
"Don't push it,"

EDEN'S NIGHT WAS calm and serene as she began unpacking all the boxes that still were splayed across her room. In moments like these, she let her brain shut off as she put things away. No worries were allowed to fill her brain as she pranced around her room, putting items in places that were deemed fit to her OCD brain. She hadn't talked to her family much, after watching the practice, she went straight up to her room to unwind. She could hear questions come left and right from her family, Eden responded in one to two worded answers before rushing upstairs to her newfound sanctuary.
A soft alternative song strummed across her room as she hummed lightly along to it. This Eden was never shown to anybody. This one was strictly for the peace and quiet of her room, no one ever had the luxury to see this side of Eden. This calm and peaceful side was shoved away when she left her room.
She was very particular about who was allowed in her room. While everyone was welcome into it, there was a clear shift in Eden's mood depending on the person. If it was her brother or Allison, she was more than open and was apt to joke with the two. And if it was her aunt and uncle, she was more awkward and guilty around them, they always had the knack of making her feel as if she had done something wrong. But her mother was the worst, if the dreaded woman entered the room, she was met with clipped and one-worded answers. Eden was completely closed off, she was withdrawn and counted down the minutes until her mother left her room.
Eden's process of putting things away was interrupted by a small knock on her door. Turning towards the noise, a smile pulled at Eden's lips seeing her little brother waver in her doorway. "Hey kid, come in,"
"Hey," Miles greeted, soon flopping lazily across his big sister's bed.
Eden pulled a throw pillow out of a box and jokingly tossed it directly on Miles' head, "Do you have everything unpacked?"
The boy sent a small glare as he flicked the pillow off, but shrugged nonetheless, "Not yet, I just don't know if I should unpack anything in case we have to pack it all up again,"
Eden froze, her heart clenched lightly, wishing her brother didn't have to worry about that, turning she made her way to the bed, "As of right now, we live here and I'm not hearing anything about moving again,"
"But we might,"
Eden sighed, soon plopping across the opposite side of the bed so her head was next to his, "I don't know, this place seems nice, I have a feeling we'll be staying here for a while,"
The lie fell fluently from her lips, while she hoped the statement would be true, she just didn't know what the future would hold. But her brother seemed to visibly relax at her words and gave her a smile, "You think so?"
The girl nodded, "Yeah, one-hundred percent,"
"Okay good," Miles admitted, eyes shutting as he relaxed further into Eden's bed, "How was your first day?"
"Pretty good," Eden concluded, "I made a few new friends,"
Miles' eyes shot open at the words, a look of shock crossed his features, "You? You made friends?"
Eden stuck her tongue out in rebuttal, "Yes you dick, I can make friends you know that?"
"I'm just surprised," Miles giggled, which Eden rolled her eyes at, "Usually you aren't the friendliest person, you have a very stand-offish demeanor,"
"Oh yeah? Well, you certainly aren't a cakewalk either my friend,"
"I didn't say I was," Miles joked, soon nudging his shoulder with her, "I'm just saying that between us, I look like I'm the likely one to make friends,"
"Alright Mr. Friendly, did you meet anyone today?" Eden flicked his forehead with her finger, to which Miles swatted her hand away. The boy got quiet and his eyes drifted to the wall, Eden lips snapped shut and gave him a concerning look, "Miles, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I just didn't have the best luck today," Miles muttered in embarrassment.
Eden nudged him lightly, "What happened?"
"Kids just mocked my accent, and whenever I tried to talk to them, they just repeated what I said in a shitty British accent," Miles explained, hurt and disappointment lacing his tone.
Eden's veins burned bright as she saw how distraught her little brother was, "I'm sorry Miles, kids are just proper dickheads,"
"I know," Miles mumbled, his eyes lifting from the wall to meet Eden's, "I was just hoping that I would meet someone today, I just feel kinda alone,"
"You will Miles, trust me," Eden stated confidently, "You just have to give it time, and if any of those shitheads give you any crap, you go and tell them that your big sister will come and give 'em hell,"
Miles laughed at her last words, it only being funnier as a look of seriousness was plastered on Eden's face, "Eden, I can't do that,"
A soft smile filled the blonde's lips hearing the laughter come from Miles, "Why not Mister?"
"Because you're a girl,"
"Oh I did not just hear that come from your mouth," Eden lectured, slapping him lightly on the back of the head as she sat up, "Miles Argent, I did not practically raise you with politically correct methods for you to just conform to gender stereotypes,"
"Yeah, yeah, but if I said that I would be the one who got beat up," Miles remarked, which made Eden send him a look.
"Listen, if people mess with you, they're automatically on my bad side, that's just how this whole thing works," Eden ranted, a look of skepticism swirled in Miles' eyes, and Eden shoved his shoulder, "I'm serious, I would gladly beat up some preteens for you,"
"Eden,"
"Just give me a time and place and I'm ready to tussle,"
"I swear to god, I hate you,"
Eden gasped in surprise, "That's very bold of you to say to someone who cleaned up every time you wet the bed when you were little,"
"You're so embarrassing," Miles whined, shielding his face with his hands.
Eden smiled playfully, rustling the mop of hair on Miles' head, "Only for you kid, only for you,"

THE NEXT MORNING seemed to drag on slowly for Eden as she trudged into her art class. The blonde was only a few minutes late, but practically every seat was taken. She dreaded the eyes that followed her entrance, but she just ignored them as she waltzed into class. Art class was the only class Eden was actually excited for, she hoped that it could be a time where she could just breathe and fall into her own world. But that just didn't seem to be in her cards. Eden was directed to a seat next to someone who made her want to walk right out of the room. Eden swallowed her words of distaste and made her way to the table in the back.
The buzzcut boy looked a little flustered as she came sauntering in his direction, but he didn't say anything as she plopped into the vacant seat at his table, he remains silent and just stared. Eden ignored his eyes as she pulled out her sketchbook and pencils, ready to get on with what the teacher had planned. But a pair of looming eyes were constantly pulling her away from the art on the page below her.
"Got a staring problem or something buzzcut?" Eden clipped lowly, making sure that no one could hear her words except him.
"U-Um no, I was j-just-"
"Just what? Maybe you should just pay attention to the lesson, instead of me," Eden murmured, her attention soon moved to the teacher in front of them.
"Right,"
"Alright class, welcome to the first art class of this semester," The middle-aged, brown-haired woman bubbly greeted. "I'm Mrs. Miller and I am so excited to get you all into the exciting world of art,"
A few scattered scoffs of skepticism floated throughout the room, but Eden remained silent. Instead of paying attention to the teacher's words, Eden's mind was on the page she was focusing on. She drifted in and out of listening to her teacher going over the syllabus, her eyes were glued to her page, finding it much more interesting than the printed page on the corner of the desk.
"Now, I know you all won't like to hear this but we are going to begin to plan our first project," Mrs. Miller mentioned, and a chorus of groans filled the art room. "I know I know, but it's going to be interesting I promise,"
Eden's attention flicked up from her page, slightly interested in the instructions now. She was already planning her time so she could get this done as soon as possible. Eden doesn't seem like the studious type but she is. Eden has always had no trouble excelling at school, it just came easier to her. It was always fun to see the look of shock on her teacher's faces seeing her work. It was fun to defy the odds. When people looked at Eden they saw her as a burned-out stoner, but she was so much more, she had more potential to be something greater than everyone's expectations.
"Your table mate will be your partner, and you two will have three weeks to complete this assignment," The words were a little set back to her planning, now since she had to incorporate Stiles. The boy sent her a shy smile that she responded with a blank stare.
"What's the project?" The words of one of her classmates caught her attention.
"I'm very glad you asked Mr. Garcia," Mrs. Miller happily chirped, her enthusiasm exhausted Eden, but she appreciated the woman's attempt to get people interested. "I'm going to give you a name of a famous artist and you and your partner are going to research them, and either create a drawing or painting that resembles one of their pieces, or you can do your own twist on a piece, it's completely up to you,"
Eden was actually excited for the assignment, already deciding that she wanted to do her own twist on whatever artist they got. Unfortunately, she needed to get Stiles' opinion on this also. It's not that she absolutely detested the buzzcut boy, but she was fairly annoyed with him and had a better time working alone. She didn't like working with partners because it always ended up with her doing most of the work.
"Also, I'm going to need you to do a three-paragraph artist statement as well, and that should include a brief overview of your artist and their career," Mrs. Miller concluded, a few kids groaned at the mentions of the artist statement. "Now, I'll give you the rest of the period to plan with your partner, and I'll be passing out the names right now,"
Soon the classroom erupted into chatter between students, Eden remained quiet as her eyes fell down to her sketchbook.
"I-I really like your drawing," The boy next to her blurted kindly, Eden glance up from her page with a bored look, "I haven't introduced myself yet, but I'm stiles,"
"Eden," The blonde blankly greeted, soon turning her gaze back to her work, her next words soft, "And thank you,"
The words gave Stiles the slightest bit of confidence to continue, but he was hesitant nonetheless. He felt intimidated by the girl next to him, he was afraid he'd mess this up. But he thinks he already did yesterday, because the girl seems to want nothing to do with him. There's something that itches in the back of his brain telling him that he needs to get to know her. There's something about her aura that just draws him in and leaves him absolutely fascinated.
Mrs. Miller waltzed over to the table with a bright smile, as she placed a small folded piece of paper on top of Eden's opened sketchbook, "Ms. Argent, not that I don't love you using this time to create such beautiful art, I would like you to take this time to plan with Mr. Stilinski,"
Eden sighed lightly, it was barely audible but Stiles caught it, "Yes Ma'am,"
With that, the teacher walked off to the next table, Eden sent the boy an amused glance, "Your full name is Stiles Stilinski?"
The boy glanced at her with a slight shock lacing his features, "Yeah, what about it?"
Eden surprised her self at the moment and a small joking smile twitched at her lips, "Well, that's unfortunate,"
Stiles grinned, cockily leaning back into his chair, "Ah, so Ms. Emo can make jokes,"
A glare set onto Eden's features, "I'm not emo, dickhead,"
Stiles snorted in amusement at her demeanor as he looked her up and down, "Could've fooled me,"
"So what're you then, some nerd with horrible fashion sense?"
The boy gasped in a faux offense, "What are you talking about, I have great fashion sense,"
Eden directed an annoyed glance towards the boy, but her lips quirked up once she began speaking, "Could've fooled me,"
The smile that split across Stiles' face made Eden roll her eyes as she went back to her drawing. As the period went on the boy would continuously talk to her about the most random things, while it slightly annoyed Eden, she continued to respond to the buzzcut boy. And unbeknownst to her, that was only feeding his fascination with her and it left him eager to know more.
