first-day blues. ╱ season one, episode one.
EDEN ARGENT had the habit of always having her lips twisted into a small scowl. With one look at her, you immediately would know not to interact with her. From the outside, the girl would have the look, the edge, that would make anyone turn the other way, afraid the girl would give them a simple harsh glare. But on the inside, what she didn't want anyone to see, was a harmless young girl, who yearned to have people around her. The wall she had put up was simply for protection, it was much easier to embody the word bitch, rather than give someone the chance to hurt her.
Eden has never had the easiest life, constantly moving around never truly gave her the chance to get close to anyone. Adapting a bitchy personality came with ease, as it helped her cope with feeling like an outsider her whole entire life. Protecting herself from disappointments has always been a priority for the short blonde. Eden and her brother Miles were always tossed around their family tree, mostly due to their mother always being a deadbeat.
Anger had always run through Eden's veins watching no one pay attention to the bubbly blonde girl that had been slowly getting ripped away piece by piece. Eden once used to be a cheerful and bubbly girl with nothing but hope swirling in her eyes. But slowly the hope began fading. Now all that was left was a callous and harsh teenage girl, who cussed out someone who even somewhat glanced in her direction.
Eden didn't want to be like this, she wished she could've turned out differently. But all her standoffishness is purely second-hand nature, it's a nervous reflex that happens when she feels someone closing in on her. She preferred to be alone, she was repulsed by the word loner, but it was the only word that could truly explain her. While she was close to her family, she never acted differently towards them, everyone got the same treatment. Except for her little brother Miles, he was the only person she let in.
The two Argent siblings were a packaged deal, where Miles was, Eden was right next to him, making sure nothing happened to the little seventh-grade boy. She was always protective of the boy, ever since he was born, Miles was the person she felt the need to watch over. Eden was the person who cared for him most, while their mother was very flaky and would often be gone for days at a time, Eden took over the responsibility of caring for her little brother. They were each other's lifelines, Eden loved her brother with everything in her being, and he did the same with her.
Anger was almost always the feeling Eden felt towards her mother. Valerie Argent was commonly known as a shitty mother, it seemed like the women had no maternal instinct in her body. She is always gone, leaving her kids either by themselves or with their neighbors. Eden and Miles were always dragged around the country with their mother as she made them live with one shitty boyfriend after another.
The only time when the Argent siblings could catch a break was when they were shipped off to England to live with their father. It was their safe place. Eden and Miles loved when they were able to live with their father. He was nothing like their mother, he was kind, doting, and loving. While they never stayed there long, it was only until their mother was able to get back on her feet. Eden soaked up her little paradise as much as she could. It was a blessing not having to worry about when her next meal was or how she was going to scrape up enough money to get school supplies for her and her little brother.
Throughout her life, Eden had been accustomed to staying at her father's for a few months out of the year, and because of that, the young girl had picked up a soft British accent. Many swooned over the cute accent that fell from her lips, but Eden had hated it for the longest time. Many kids used to bully her for how her voice wasn't like everyone else's. But she couldn't help it because with each passing year the accent got stronger.
It wasn't as big a deal as she got older, because two years before her freshman year, Eden and Miles had been shipped off to their father's as their mother got her shit together for the millionth time. The two years Eden was graced with, gave her a break from the worries that always traveled with her in the states.
But the peace Eden had once felt got interrupted when her mother had informed her a year before that she and her brother were moving back to the US to live with her. But not only with her, but they were all going to be living with Eden's aunt, uncle, and cousin. Not that Eden hated them, she just hated her mother. When Eden was young, she was actually very close with them. Since Eden and Allison were close to the same age, the two had no problem connecting. When they were younger they were actually very close, but as they got older, their personalities shifted.
While Allison remained sweet and kind, Eden became rude and brash. While everyone swarmed toward Allison's infectious personality, everyone disconnected from Eden's harsh personality. Allison and Eden were complete opposites, while Allison was well-behaved and diligent, Eden was unpredictable and had a knack for rebelling. She could tell her aunt and uncle despised how she was, thinking that her ways were a bad influence on Allison.
A year passed of Eden being compared to Allison, and she was losing her mind. While Eden swallowed the growing hate she had for her family, she could never find herself to hate Allison. Since Eden had moved back to the states, the brunette had been kind and welcoming to the fiery blonde. Eden was in a way shocked by the actions, Allison always wanted to have Eden accompanying her wherever she went. Even with the rigid personality that went hand in hand with Eden, Allison ignored it and tried to be a big part of Eden's life.
While on the outside, Eden acted as if her cousin was a bother, deep down, Eden appreciated the kind gestures of the brunette. She felt as if someone was finally trying to actively be a part of her life. And it was something that Eden would always be grateful for.

HESITANCE FOLLOWED the girl with pink ends as she stood outside of Beacon Hills High School. The chilled September morning air nipped at her fishnet-clad legs. Allison's cheery voice was in the background as she lazily talked to her mother on her cell as she dug through her bag looking for something. Eden didn't bother to ask what she was looking for as she took a small drag of her cigarette. Her bag felt slightly heavy as she readjusted it over her shoulder, the annoyance of her first day in a new school bubbled in her stomach.
Eden's eyes wandered to the front door of the school as it began to open, she quickly dropped the cigarette that was placed between her fingers and crushed it with her doc martins. She flicked a mint into her mouth quickly and spritzed some of her perfume around her to mask the potent smell of her cigarette.
As she shoved her perfume bottle back into her bag, the vice principal had wandered over to them with a kind smile gracing his features. "Sorry to keep you ladies waiting,"
Allison just sent the man a kind smile as she stood up from the bench she was sitting on, "It's totally okay,"
Soon enough the three of them headed towards the school, Eden remained in the back, while Allison and the vice principal chatted, "So you were saying San Francisco isn't where you grew up?"
Allison nodded lightly, "No, but we lived there for more than a year, which is unusual for my family,"
"Well, hopefully, Beacon hills will be your last stop for a while," The man mentioned, while Eden silently wished that would be true, but deep down she knew it probably wouldn't work out that way.
Prying eyes found the two girls as they wandered in behind the vice principal, people examined every inch of the two girls as they stood in front of the rows of desks, "Class, these are our new students, Allison and Eden Argent. Please do your best to make them feel welcome,"
Eden and Allison were soon directed to seats in the back of the class. While Allison silently took the seat behind a scruffy brown-eyed boy, Eden had to take a seat behind a boy with a buzz-cut who attempted to send her a kind smile. She scoffed at the gesture and rolled her eyes, dropping her bag to the floor and slumping into the plastic chair as she pulled out a pen and her notebook.
The blonde quirked up her eyebrows, as the boy Allison sat behind gestured to a pen in his hand. Allison hesitated lightly, but smiled brightly and plucked the pen out of his hand. "Thanks,"
Suddenly the boy in front of Eden shifted around his seat, and her eyes wavered to the boy lightly as he dug through his bag, she rolled her eyes as she gazed back down at her notebook. The buzz-cut boy turned around to her, mouth open as if he was about to say something, but Eden instantly cut him off, not bothering to look up from her notebook, "Not interested Buzz-Cut, already got a pen,"
The boy in front of her huffed, dropping the pen on his desk as he sunk into his seat. Eden's lips twisted lightly in amusement but no one was able to catch the small smile before it disappeared. The loud commanding voice of the teacher caught her attention as he began writing on the board, "We'll begin with Kafka's metamorphosis on page 133,"
A small sigh escaped her lips as she turned her head to the window, her mind drifting to the outside world, hoping that this day will be over as fast as it started.

THE HALLS WERE filled to the brim with bustling students as they hurried to their next class. Eden felt slightly suffocated as people were close to brushing up against her, the need to escape through one of the exits and have a smoke was getting more and more strong. The blonde traveled with her cousin as Allison was on the hunt for her locker. Eden had already found her locker a few minutes after second period ended, so not wanting to be alone in a foreign school, she trailed cooly next to Allison.
Eyes followed the two girls, looks of surprise mostly wafted from the strangers when they went from Allison to Eden. Girls like Allison would most definitely not be caught with girls like Eden.
"I hate this school already," Eden muttered just loud enough for Allison to hear her. "People can't keep their eyes to themselves,"
The short brunette laughed lightly, smiling at the annoyed look plastered on her cousin's face, "We're new, people are bound to look at us,"
"I guess," Eden sighed as she leaned against a random locker as Allison focused on putting her combination in. But the blonde girl perked up when she saw that boy Allison sat in front of in English class staring at the two of them, "Hey Allison looks like you've got a stalker,"
The girl in question scrunched up her eyebrows at the words, "Wha-" Allison cut herself off as she turned in the direction of the mystery boy that was having a staring contest with the brunette herself. Allison sent the boy a kind smile, but her attention had snapped to a short red-head and light brown-haired girl that made their way to the two.
"Your jacket is absolutely killer," The red-head girl complimented the brunette, Allison had no time to reply before the girl spoke up again. "Where'd you get it?"
"My mom was a buyer for a boutique back in San Francisco," Allison replied.
"And you are our new best friend,"
Soon an unfamiliar boy came over to the four girls and attached himself to the red-heads side. They offered small greetings to each other that made Allison and Eden sway awkwardly. Eden's attention soon fell to her nails, as she boredly picked at them, not interested in this conversation in the slightest. The need to walk away was more and more apparent with every second that passed. That was until the red-head caught her attention.
"And you," The girl began, eyes shifting up and down Eden's body, and the blonde couldn't decide if it was condescending or not, "I really like the grunge vibe you have going, very...'90s,"
Eden smiled sarcastically nonetheless, "Thanks, really love the generic pretty girl vibe you have going on,"
The red-head smiled falsely at her words, making an almost scowl twist onto Eden's face, but Allison lightly nudged her side to get her to stop, "I'm Allison, this is my cousin Eden, she's not that much of a people's person,"
"I can see that," The redhead's lips twisted in a condescending manner as she nodded, "Anyways, I'm Lydia, this is my boyfriend Jackson, and this is Piper,"
Allison sent the two next to Lydia a kind smile, while Eden just nodded her head at them in an acknowledging manner.
"So, this weekend there's a party," Lydia started but was cut off by Allison.
"A party?"
Jackson nodded in response, giving the two girls a smile, "Yeah Friday night, you guys should come,"
"Uh, we can't, it's family night this Friday," Allison sighed, Eden's face remained blank but she immediately knew the brunette was lying, "Thanks for asking,"
"You sure? I mean everyone's going after the scrimmage," Jackson mentioned.
Allison quirked her head to the side, "You mean like football?"
The boy laughed condescendingly at the words, "Football's a joke in Beacon, the sport here's lacrosse. We've won the state championship for the past three years,"
Lydia smiled proudly at the words as she reached up and fixed a strand of Jackson's hair, "Because of a certain team captain,"
"Well, we have practice in a few minutes, that is if you guys don't have anywhere else-" Jackson offered, but Allison cut him off.
"Well, we were going to-"
Lydia interrupted, a commanding smile lifted on her lips, "Perfect, you guys are coming,"
And soon Allison's hand was grabbed soon dragged by Lydia, Eden hiked up her bag as she trailed along with the three ahead of her. Piper began walking by her side, Eden sent her a look, "Is this going to be interesting at all?"
The light brown haired girl sent her a pessimistic glance, "If you find testosterone-filled guys fighting each other for a small white ball interesting, then sure,"
"Great," Eden groaned lightly, loud enough for Piper to hear, which made a smile lift on the shorter girl's face.
"I'll explain everything to you, I've picked up a few things while watching Lydia drool over her boyfriend," Piper offered, knocking her shoulder with Eden's.
A polite, yet awkward smile lifted onto Eden's lips, "Thanks,"
"No problem,"
Maybe this wouldn't be as bad as she thought it would be.
