— Odette Williams's life was never easy to start with; she was always plagued with a bunch of work since she was one of the most well-known lawyers of Richmond, Virginia. She was always away from her parents and her younger sister, Anna and, although she missed them deeply, she could never spare any time away from her job to be with them. She never married or even had any children because she was always so busy, even though she wanted a family of her own.

On September 26th, 2003, however, she was given the ability to have a weekend off to fly out to Pennsylvania to visit her loved ones; she took advantage of that and immediately booked a flight to her home state, excited to see them for the first time in two months.

Unfortunately, right as the plane was about to land that night, she began to see a few people twitching violently in their seats. What was once normal individuals that she had politely greeted when she boarded became monsters in a matter of minutes. The silence was shattered by grotesque screams of either anguish or hunger as the affected people practically leaped out of their seats and pounced on other passengers next to them. Odette, becoming terrified in less than a minute, was paralyzed with fear at first but she did the right thing and took over, doing her best to overpower the insane passengers.

The flight she was on called for an emergency landing in Pittsburgh and, luckily for the ones who were still alive (a fair few, including Odette), they landed safely on the ground without crashing. Odette managed to escape with a few bruises from being jumped by someone who would later be known as an Infected. Fortunately for her, someone had intervened and had managed to kill the person before God knows what happened to her.

One thing led to another and Odette found herself walking over three hundred miles in just over four days in order to find her family. Even then, it was almost impossible to track them down and it took several more weeks of searching all over the cities and being ambushed by soldiers or Hunters in the process. After nearly a month of blood, sweat, and tears, the twenty-four year old woman was only able to track down her younger sister, Anna, in Philadelphia. According to her, their parents had both died on the first night of the outbreak, and this completely switched Odette's life around for the absolute worst.

She could still recall the last time she had talked to her father and the last thing he had said to her: "I'll see you tomorrow, kiddo. Love you!"

Odette hadn't said it back.... She hadn't even considered calling her mother, despite the older woman being asleep at that point....

And that completely ripped her heart to shreds.

Now a depressed and traumatized young woman, Odette was left to survive with her sister, the only person left that mattered to her whatsoever. But, almost five years to the date of the outbreak beginning in the United States, she and Anna — who had already grown distant due to the grief — completely separated from one another out of nowhere. Anna, who had been a month pregnant with an unknown man's child, had left in the middle of the night while Odette was still asleep.

And Odette never saw her baby sister again.

Over the next fifteen years, Odette had gone through trials and hardships that would either end in her being forced to kill someone else or almost being murdered herself. Her once beautiful features began to wither away from the grime and blood that covered her face and hands on an almost daily basis. She rarely got any sleep at all and, whenever she did, she would always have nightmares about what could have possibly happened to her parents, since Anna had never described how they died.

The year is now 2023; Odette is now forty-four years old, and she is now a lonely middle-aged woman being forced to follow the regulations of the Boston, Massachusetts QZ run by FEDRA.

She isn't entirely alone, however, since she is looking after a young girl around seventeen years of age; her name is Iris Nelson and her older sister, Arabella, was one of the only people that Odette emotionally let in after losing contact with Anna. Despite this, Arabella had set off to find a more peaceful environment to reside in, but she asked her friend to watch over her little sister while she was gone.

So Odette did. But she eventually grows worried for Arabella after not getting any radio signals or messages from her, so she and Iris pack for a long journey across the country for any hints as to where her friend may be.

She never knew that her plan would end up coinciding with another group. But, just her fucking luck, she gets wrapped up in the expedition of a grizzled smuggler named Joel Miller as he is also escorting a young girl across America. Odette soon realizes that this teenage girl might be humanity's only chance at the vaccine for the Cordyceps....

And Ellie might also, by a very slim chance, be Odette's last string of blood relation in her family....
