both seemingly trapped in their own world, they ached to be with another again but they just didn't realize it. anger and hatred clouded their judgment and they never thought the feelings were still alive. but they realized it soon enough and suddenly they don't feel so trapped anymore.

...in which a kook princess and a dirty pogue have a history but both ignore the feelings and stayed in their safe little bubbles. but all of it resurfaces when a certain group of pogues decide to embark on a treasure hunt, unsuspectingly adding a kook princess to the mix.

KENNEDY THORNTON was deemed the prettiest kook on the island. From the time she was a child, all eyes were on her. It wasn't just about her reigning beauty, it was the seemingly perfect and bubbly personality that she flaunts around the island. Kennedy was someone that the kooks adored and the pogues tolerated. The small blonde was someone that anyone could have a solid conversation with, she wasn't the one to be cruel to the pogues up front, as she was the same with the kooks. Unlike many of kooks, Kennedy treated the pogues and kooks the same. She didn't care about the difference between classes, whether you had money or not, if you were nice and kept up a conversation you were completely fine in her book.

IN SO MANY ways Kennedy was the exact opposite of her twin brother Topper, for most of her life Kennedy tried to keep an open mind about people on the cut, while Topper believed that they were bred to mow lawns. Every time Topper mentioned a pogue, simultaneously insulting them, it tugged at Kennedy's heart. She tried to judge a person by who they are, rather than their class.

SHE HAD HER older sister to thank for that, Maggie Thornton was someone Kennedy aspired to be. In her eyes, her big sister was a saint, she could do no wrong. She rightfully went against her parents from a young age, she didn't want to fit into their agenda, Maggie wanted to be her own person. The girl was never a quiet one either, she was always loud and very much voiced her opinions. She hated how people on the figure eight functioned, the cruel and fake day to day ate her alive. Maggie was the first of the Thornton siblings to leave, she didn't care if she was leaving all of the money behind, she just wanted out of her toxic family. She managed to find a job at The Wreck, and was fitting into the townie class that outer banks has to offer.

BUT UNLIKE her sister, Kennedy wasn't perfect, in contrary to what people believed. The toxicity of figure eight has quite literally eaten her alive, she wasn't an innocent girl anymore. She was fearful of her status and how it could be ripped away from her at any moment. And from growing up Kennedy struggled with many neglect issues. Growing up in the Thornton household wasn't easy, it was full of toxic relationships and borderline verbal abuse. Everything Kennedy did was wrong, from the small things, to big things, she never did anything right, and her mother made sure to tell her that.

LAST SUMMER was the year where Kennedy finally lost control. She had gotten into a huge fight with her mother, and a party at the boneyard didn't seem too bad. So with no one by her side she made her way down to the beach, preparing to forget about her problems. And going the boneyard, she got more than she bargained for.

A SUMMER FLING with JJ Maybank was something she didn't expect. She felt free, hell, alive for the first time in her life. Sneaking around with a boy she knew she shouldn't be with, there was something about JJ that made her come back every time. He was different from all the boys on the figure eight. Sure, he was chaotic and reckless, but certainly did not live up to any of the shit that people talked about him on the figure eight. He wasn't some psycho kid with a shit dad, he actually was someone that Kennedy wanted to be around, he was someone that surprisingly made her feel safe, wanted even.

BUT AS A thing that happens to many flings graciously fell in between the two teens, it made tension stick out like a sore thumb. Feelings were something that the two did not deal with, let alone understand. So instead of confessing, the two split, going back to their safe little bubbled lives.

WHILE JJ SOON fell into a pattern of sleeping with as many girls as he could, Kennedy fell right into a relationship with the biggest douche on the figure eight, Rafe Cameron. It certainly wasn't something she planned, it just happened. Even with the age difference between the two, the kooks of figure eight ate their relationship right up. While she acted as if nothing ever happened, JJ stewed, watching her flaunt her relationship right in his face.

IT WASN'T long before the comments and hatred began. Kennedy changed, she began to look down on the pogues, treating them—especially JJ—like trash. Many believed it was the doing of Rafe Cameron, while many others just saw her showing her true kook Princess side. Instead of being the JJ and Kennedy that took secret romantic late night trips and treated each other kindly, they were now the JJ and Kennedy that would almost get into actual brawls if they saw each other on the streets.

THE TWO thought they would never change. But who knew a search to find the royal merchant was all it took to have the old feelings come rushing right back.
