in a place surrounded by people who were content, a girl wished to find something greater. And her friends were able to show her just that.

...in which a girl was searching for her purpose through the thick walls of her vault. She always hoped there would be more, dreaming of the day where she could feel the sun on her face. But that all changed when she blindly followed her best friend into the unknown to save their parents from god knows what that lied on the surface. After a lifetime of being in the dark, she could finally see the world for what it truly was. A wasteland.

ALICE JONES had always been an anomaly within her vault. She lived within her mind, finding it much more comforting than the life that was given to her. For generations before her, people stuck to the same patterns, wore the same clothes, did the same jobs. They were a community that lacked individuality. For a long time, that was just how it was. People loved to help and provide for the vault, they didn't want anything more. But when Alice Jones was born, she changed everything.

She always strived for something different, the day-to-day routines drained her. While everyone was happy and content with their lives, Alice resented it. She hated how safe it all was, she hated that people couldn't break out of the role they were given. Alice had always been different from the others, she made it a point to stand out from the sea of blue and gold jumpsuits.

Even if she had been conditioned to be like everyone else, she rejected the idea. She had always pushed off science and the engineering career paths around her, she hated them. Alice always gravitated to art and the more creative aspect of life that everyone in the vault practically ignored.

The day she showcased her own hard work, the things she was passionate about by the clothes she created, people looked at her like she was mad. They never imagined that someone would step out of the uniform, to take that big of jump. It was a controversy people talked about for months to come. It was even bigger than it should've been due to the fact her mother had such power in the vault. Having a mother who was a close consultant to the overseer always made Alice the spectacle of Vault 33.

She spent her days locked in her studio, where people refused to step into, dreaming of the place where she wouldn't be isolated and where people wouldn't look at her differently all because she didn't accept the image they pushed onto her. She thought her life would never change, accepting her fate of the same dreaded day-to-day.

But it all changed when Lucy applied to be a part of the triennial trade and planned to be married off. Alice's life was quickly altered forever the moment the supposed trade with Vault 32 was determined to be a scam from raiders from the surface. In thirty minutes, she lost many of the people she grew up with, the massacre creating a dark cloud that washed over Vault 33. In the midst of it all, the raiders kidnapped her mother and Lucy's father, bringing him to the surface for a reason unbeknownst to Alice and Lucy. 

After the lack of help from the community, Lucy and Alice take it into their own hands. Deciding to escape to the surface on a whim to save their parents from a fate they didn't want to come to terms with. Within all this chaos, Alice couldn't help but let her best friend of twenty-one years tag along, knowing he wouldn't let her leave unless he was with her.

Peter was the only one who truly understood her, even with Lucy and her mother, Peter was the one who knew her inside and out. She didn't want to admit that she always needed him, pushing those feelings deep in her chest. But the moment they stepped outside into the Wasteland, her feelings hit her like a brick. He was her lifeline and even through the dreary darkness of the Wasteland, he was her guiding light. And she certainly needed it, following her white rabbit into the Wasteland had to offer.
