{Part II} ~✦~ Chapter XXII

10 Months Ago. . .

"Whoa!" Spinel awed as the large doors before her opened, revealing a large, pink room with a balcony waiting outside of it. The pink gem smiled excitedly and stepped in quickly, looking around at the beautiful bedroom in amazement as she twirled around; giggling. "This room is really for me?" Spinel asked, turning to the Diamonds.

White smiled and nodded. "Of course! We can't have you living in something simple, can we?" The Diamond kneeled down and patted Spinel's head gently, making her giggle.

Blue Diamond smiled at the scene and clasped her hands together. "Well, me, Yellow and White have to get things prepared for your welcoming gala! Do you think you could stay in here by yourself for a while, or would you prefer it if we asked a gem to come in here and keep you company?"

Spinel froze for a moment and her eyes widened. She looked down and stared at her shoes for a second, before shaking her head and finally looking back up at the three Diamonds, a 'cheerful smile' on her face. "I'll be fine! Don't worry!" The pink gem said, hopping over to the large bed in the corner of her room and jumping on it.

White smiled and clapped her hands. "Perfect! Now," She turned and began to head out the door with Yellow and Blue. "Make sure to call us if anything's troubling you, alright?"

Spinel nodded and waved at the three. "Okay!"

The three Diamonds smiled and looked at eachother, before turning and making their way down the hall.

And not so soon after, once they were out of sight, the door shut behind them; leaving Spinel alone. . . again. . .

Suddenly, Spinel really wished that (Y/n) was with her.

.

.

.

.

.

Oh! Wait! She has the ability to contact (Y/n) anytime she wants since they're gems are technically linked! Oh, silly her~

Spinel giggled out of glee and hopped off of her bed before walking in the center of her room. She then sat down — crisscrossing her legs, of course — and tapped her gem directly in its center about three times at a steady beat. After waiting for a moment, a hologram suddenly appeared before her, and Spinel grinned.

"(Y/N)!" She stopped when the said gem turned to her, eyes wide with shock and fear.

She was crying.

Spinel's eyes widened and she quickly stood back up, her once happy expression now filled with dread as she took in her friend's appearance. She seemed to be standing on a warp pad, from what Spinel could tell, and her hair was a complete mess and her cheeks were tear stained. She was hugging herself, meaning that she was obviously frightened, and she seemed to be watching out for something — someone as if they could show up any minute.

Spinel had only been gone for a few hours(?) and her best friend was already looking the same way she did when they were in the garden.

"(Y/n)!" Spinel gasped out, her tone much less happy than last time. She took a step forward, but stopped when she noticed (Y/n) flinch. Taking a deep breath, Spinel spoke as gently as she could: "(Y/n), what's wrong?"

It took the Marriposa gem a while to actually respond to Spinel's question, but after finally calming down, she spoke in a shaky voice, "Spinel, I want you to promise me something."

Spinel blinked. Well, that wasn't what she was expecting to hear.

. . . But then again this is (Y/n), so. . .

Spinel gulped before giving her friend a hesitant nod. "O-Okay. . . W-What do you want me to promise you?" Oh, how Spinel wished she were actually there with (Y/n). Because then she could give her a hug. She seemed like she needed one right about now. . .

(Y/n) inhaled sharply and began to, what it seemed like to Spinel, walk off of the warp pad. "I want you to promise me that you won't tell anyone where I am, and that you have the ability to contact me anytime you want." The gem stated firmly, yet grimly.

Spinel's eyes widened and she took another step forward. "W-What? Why? (Y-Y/n). . . what's going on. . .?"

.

.

.

After a beat of silence, (Y/n) sighed and looked up to meet Spinel's gaze, thick tears falling from her eyes. "I. . . I don't deserve to be here, Spinel. . ." She whispered, causing Spinel to widen her eyes even more.

"W-What do y-ya mean, (Y/n)?" Spinel asked shakily, now beginning to tear up herself.

(Y/n) let out a dry laugh. "I tried to kill an entire planet, Spinel," The Marriposa ran a hand through her hair. "I shouldn't even be allowed to walk on it. . . or fly through its skies. . ."

Spinel frowned at that.

No.

(Y/n) should be worthy to do just those things. She had a right to. After what Pink did to them, and after everything else she had been through — especially during the Gem War — she had every right to her actions and her reaction was reasonable — even though it was terrible.

(Y/n) shouldn't be blaming herself for having emotions.

Spinel thought that she had stopped doing that thousands of years ago. But apparently she was wrong.

"No, (Y/n). Stop saying that." Spinel said firmly as she crossed her arms.

(Y/n) only looked away.

And then, suddenly, (Y/n) froze.

Spinel blinked and her arms fell back to her sides. She began to sweat nervously and she walked closer to the hologram of her friend, growing more concerned with each passing second.

"(Y-Y/n)? What's wrong?" Spinel asked, but that was when she heard something else over their message:

Voices.

"A-Are those the Crystal Gems?" Spinel asked, eyes wide with shock. Were they. . . chasing (Y/n) or something? What. . . What was happening?

"(Y-Y/n)—"

Spinel was cut off by the said gem before she could even voice her concerns.

"Spinel, listen to me," (Y/n) began firmly with a low voice, almost as if she were trying to make sure that no one could here her. "I want you to keep those promises, okay?"

Spinel, once again, hesitantly nodded and began to rub her arm up and down nervously. "O-Okay. I. . . promise. But, (Y/n), what's happening?" Spinel questioned, growing frantic.

(Y/n) seemed to be sweating bullets now. She closed her eyes, took a shaky breath, and then shook her head as she offered Spinel a tired smile.

"I'll tell you later, okay?" The Marriposa gem said, glancing off in a different direction ever now and then; making sure that no one could see her.

Spinel frowned. "Why can't you tell me now—"

"Sorry, Spinel! But I have to go now!"

Spinel's eyes widened. "W-What—"

"I'll talk to you later, okay? And I promise to explain what's happening, later, too, don't worry," (Y/n) took a shaky breath. "Bye! Love you sis!"

And with that, the hologram of (Y/n)'s form disappeared, leaving Spinel alone.

All by herself.

At least that was until the Diamonds suddenly burst into the room.

"Spinel~! It's time for the gala—" White Diamond cut herself off when she heard Blue gasp and she looked down to see what was wrong, only to gasp as well.

"Spinel. . ." White sat down slowly and held her hand out for the pink gem to step on, a worried look coming onto her face.

"Why are you crying?"

Spinel only sobbed in reply.
