Chapter XV

". . . Why do you have that?" You asked Steven as you stared at the activated rejuvinator in his grasp. The glow of the very weapon illuminated off of the gem-hybrids panicked expression as he glanced down at the rejuvinator in his hands and then back up at you.

"I-I was just carrying it! I-I didn't have anywhere else to put it!"

.

.

.

Giggling. Chuckling. Laughing: it was all coming from you. You stumbled backwards and clutched your stomach, tears beginning to take form in the corners of your eyes as Steven and the rest of the gems looked at you in confusion and slight concern.

"Oh, I see it now," You began, wiping a tear from your eye before straightening yourself up and giving Steven an insane grin. "When you say, 'we can just forget this every happened', I suppose what you mean by that is that you could just poof me," You took a heavy step forward and a shadow casted itself over your eyes. "Bubble me, and then hit Spinel with the rejuvinator so that she can't remember my very existence!" You laughed again and looked down, your figure slouching slightly as you clenched your fists. "And then, you would give Lunar to that human, right? I'll admit. . ." You slowly lifted your head up to face Steven, and you smirked when you saw his shocked/fearful expression.

"That's quite the plan! You come play with my feelings so that I could turn off the injector, and then the moment my back is turned. . ." You summoned out your own scythe and sliced it through the air. "Bam!" You laughed again and placed your hand over your eyes to prevent everyone from seeing the tears beginning to build up in them.

"Well, think again, dove," You put the scythe away and summoned your violin back into your hands as the shadow over your eyes disappeared, revealing the amount of insanity that was beginning to clash in them.

"You ain't getting rid of me that easily!" You giggled before playing another harmonic tune on the instrument in your grasp. Steven's eyes went wide as he gasped with the others. He wanted to run over to you; to tell you that everything that you just said wasn't the truth, but Bismuth held him back saying that you were too unstable at the moment.

Guess she was right, then.

The injector began to turn, and the bottom hatch of it opened, revealing the drill that began to slowly spin towards the Earth as the machines spider-like legs once again dug themselves into the mountains sides. Once the legs of the injector grasped the mountain, the machine suddenly pulled itself up, before bringing itself down.

"Run for it!!" Peridot shouted to everyone, who immediately did so and ran away just as the drill came rushing down to the Earth's floor.

CRASH!

Steven cried out when he felt his feet fly off of the ground. He watched with wide eyes filled with terror as the ground that was once beneath him began to crack and break, until it all began to push itself up. More, smaller cracks soon began to form, and Steven instantly noticed the pink liquid that was beginning to run through them.

"Argh!" Steven grunted when his body impacted the floor. When the teenage hybrid began to push himself up, he instantly fell back down and a series of coughs began to erupt from his mouth.

"I'm not letting you get one over me, Steven Universe." You stated coldly as you glared at him from a few feet away, a deep frown on your face as Spinel cowered behind you, holding a confused, crying Lunar close to her chest. Why were his mama and papa fighting? He didn't like it!

"I wasn't going to hurt you, (Y/n)!" Steven stood up and took a step towards the you, an almost pleading look on his, as if he were begging you to believe him. "And I wasn't going to do anything to Spinel and Lunar, either! Please, you have to believe me!" Steven took another step forwards, seeming almost as if he were desperate.

"Steven?" Cotton candy Garnet called out to the hybrid from one of the broken bits of the Earth up top as she sat on her knees and stared down at the scene below her, confused and — obviously — oblivious to what was happening.

"Why are you fighting? Aren't we all friends?" She asked, blinking and tilting her head to the side.

You smirked and turned to her, pulling a whip out. "Looks like we've still got an audience!" You said, almost enthusiastically as you wrapped the whip around Garnet and pulled her down next to you. "How about a front row seat?" You asked, grinning as you leaned against her and rested your elbow on her shoulder; all while sending Steven a mocking grin.

A worried look flashed across Steven's face. "Garnet!"

You smirked and tilted your head to the side slightly. "Well, this is pretty twisted~" You said in a sing-songy voice. "Thought, I'm a little flattered that you liked the, oh, how should I say it?" You tapped your chin in thought before snapping your fingers and grinning. "The 'old' me!" You rested your head on Garnet's shoulder and placed a finger against your chin, giving Steven puppy-dog eyes. "Innocent," You closed your eyes and snuggled into Garnet's hair, smiling. "Loving~" You then frowned and leaned your head away from Garnet's, a bitterness in your voice as you finished,

"Stupid." You chuckled and placed your hands on Garnet's shoulders as she continued to stare at you in confusion. "If that's your thing, why don't you leave her like this?" You asked, gesturing to Garnet with one hand as you grinned maniacally at Steven.

Steven frowned deeply and got into a battle stance, holding the rejuvinator close. "Get away from her." He said sternly.

Your grin only grew as you wrapped the whip around Garnet even tighter. "Oh, you're so protective of your real friends! And you're so careless with your FAKE ones!" You growled the last part out lowly, anger clouding your thoughts.

Steven took a step towards you and glared. "Stop it!"

You smirked and tilted your head to the side, your brows furrowing. "Then STOP me! You wanna attack me, just admit it!" You laughed and stomped your foot. "Or better yet, just TRY IT!!"

Steven growled and shook his head. "No!"

You frowned, feeling aggravated, and took a step towards Steven yourself, not noticing the tears beginning to stream down your cheeks. "WHY NOT?!"

Steven shut his eyes tightly and brought the rejuvinator up into the air, "Because that's not the TRUTH!" He yelled before bringing the weapon down onto his knee, breaking it in half.

Garnet's three eyes widened slightly. "The truth. . ." She whispered out, almost as if something were dawning upon her.

Suddenly, Garnet frowned and glanced over to you, before standing up and throwing her arms open; breaking through your whip and making your eyes go wide.

"I've known hardships and confusion," Garnet began before looking down at her hands; where her two gems — Ruby and Sapphire — sat perfectly in her palms. "But love can live through it all if you face the truth. . ." Garnet's eyes brightened up and she looked towards the sky.

"TOGETHER!"

And then, after her words, Garnet clenched her fists into the air and her body began to glow. At seeing this, Steven dropped the two halves of the rejuvinator and smiled happily.

"Her final piece!"

You took a step back, eyes wide. "No. . ." You muttered. You then frowned and summoned another whip. "Stop!" You turned around and wrapped the whip around a boulder before swinging it up and over your head and towards the fusion. "Don't you dare!" You cried out as the boulder came crashing down on Steven and Garnet; only for it to be shattered into pieces as soon as it met the fusions fist.

Oh, when a difficult day goes by~

Steven opened his eyes and gasped lightly as your eyes widened in shock.

Keeping it together is hard but that's why,

Garnet soon began to morph into her many different forms, the one's that she had used through the past years, until she finally landed on one form in particular: her true form.

The form that was paired with not only her visors, but her rings as well.

You've got to try,

You've got to try. . .

A smile instantly found its way onto Steven's face as his eyes lit up at the sight of Garnet: his Garnet. The fusion herself smiled and turned towards Steven and held her hand out to him, which he gladly took; allowing her to help him up.

And when there's a thundering storm outside,

Underneath the covers you huddle and hide,

Garnet hugged herself and turned to you, allowing you to see her eyes through her visors as you glared at her and Steven.

Open your eyes,

Open your eyes~

At those words, your own eyes widened and you took a step back, your mouth gaping slightly.

You tried to ignore it, but you couldn't help but feel the pain and regret beginning to eat at you alive.

It's the true. . .

Steven laughed and immediately jumped onto Garnet, embracing her tightly as she smiled down at him and ruffled his hair.

It's the true. . .

Soon, Amethyst jumped onto Garnet as well. The purple gem laughed and wrapped her legs around the fusions waist, allowing Garnet to wrap an arm around her to keep her up.

It's the true, kind of love~

Not a while after, Pearl came to join. She slowly walked over to the three hugging gems with a small smile on her face as Garnet opened an arm out to her and welcomed her into their little group hug.

It's the true. . .

Garnet turned to Pearl, and the two shared a smile.

It's the true. . .

The fusion then turned to Amethyst and gave her a smile as well, earning a grin from the purple gem in return.

It's the true, kind of love~

You watched as Garnet smiled down at Steven and your guilty expression instantly turned back into your angered one from before.

You turned to Spinel and Lunar, and sent them a sad smile. "I'm sorry," You whispered to the two before creating a giant bubble around them and pressing your forehead against it. "But I'm afraid I have to deal with this myself. . ." Ignoring Spinel's cries of protests and Lunar's pleading face, you teleported them away: back to the cave you and Lunar were staying at before all of this happened.

Once they were gone, you inhaled deeply and summoned a pair of gauntlets on your hands before turning around, opening your wings, and flying full-speed towards Garnet; preparing to poof her when another pair of gauntlets clashed against yours.

Stuck,

You growled and began to wrestle with the fusion, who continued to smile at you the whole time.

In the middle of fear and shame~

You frowned deeply and snapped your eyes upwards to meet Garnet's, only for you to see your own reflection in her visors.

Seeing your own expression at that very moment nearly made you falter, but you quickly snapped out of it and continued to wrestle with her.

Everybody's looking for someone to blame~

Like it's a game~

Like it's a game~

Garnet sang as she continued to block and move away from your punches, aggravating you even more.

You opened your wings and flew up, landing on one of the lower parts of your machine, when you noticed a certain someone by himself, panting tiredly with beads of sweat rolling down his face.

And when he turned to you, and your eyes met his, you growled and flew towards him.

And now. . .

Getting rid of your gauntlets and summoning a sword in their place, you lifted the blade up high above your head as you drew closer to Steven, who gasped at the sight of you and fell backwards, eyes wide.

I am better than "win-or-lose",

Then, a pair of gauntlets grabbed ahold of your wings; stopping you just when you were a few inches away from Steven. Gasping, you looked over your shoulder to see Garnet.

The fusion smiled at you and threw you up into the air, confusing you even more. Why wasn't she actually attacking you. . .?

There's a new direction that I'd like to choose,

Suddenly, you felt arms wrap around your own, holding you in place. Your eyes went wide and you looked over your shoulders, only to see Pearl and Amethyst restraining you.

They didn't seem to be attacking you, either.

It's called the truth~

Finally returning to your senses, you opened your wings widely, making both Amethyst and Pearl gasp in surprise and release you.

Taking that as a chance, you flew up into the air and back onto the injector, panting with an angered yet confused expression on your face as you glared down at the Crystal Gems, who were all looking up to you with a smile.

What those smiles meant, however, was completely unknown to you.

It's called the truth~
