Chapter IV
"What have you done to us?" Steven questioned the pink gem — Spinel as he ran up to her and grabbed her shoulders and began to shake her back and forth, his brows furrowed and a glare on his face.
Spinel, however, only giggled, causing Steven to release her and look at her in confusion. She smiled and him and booped his nose, saying, "Boop! Now its your turn!" The gem said playfully, confusing Steven more as he opened his mouth to ask what she meant when she suddenly wrapped her long arms around him and began to shake him, causing him to cry out.
"W-W-Would you cut that out?" Steven yelled, and Spinel stopped, leaving him up in the air, still wrapped in her arms. The teenage boy looked around dizzily, before blinking and shaking his head, regaining his focus. He then looked down at Spinel and said quickly, in a quiet voice, "Please?"
Spinel stared at him for a bit, an unreadable expression on her face, before unwrapping her arms around him and allowing him to drop to the floor as a derpy smile made its way onto her face.
"Hey, look!" Spinal said, climbing on top of Steven and pointing over to the other gems and Greg as Steven looked up, a tired expression on his face. "There's more gems!" Spinel exclaimed happily. She then crawled off of Steven and grinned at him. "Let's ask 'em to play!" She said, bouncing in her place excitedly.
Steven blinked as he pushed himself up. He kneeled up on one knee and leaned over, a sudden headache attacking him, before straightening his back and looking at Spinel, a confused expression on his face. "W-Wait a minute." Steven ran his hand through his hair and glanced over to the pink gem next to him. "You don't remember?"
Spinel tilted her head to the side slightly. "Remember what?"
Steven frowned and stuck his hand in his pocket, where he soon felt the pointed corners of the (F/c) gem he had stuffed in there. His eyes widened and he quickly brought the gem out and showed it to Spinel, hoping it would jog her memory in some way.
"This gem! Do— Do you know who she is?" Steven asked, almost sounding desperate.
Spinel hummed and tapped her chin, narrowing her eyes at the gem in his hands as she leaned her face closer to it to get a better look at the gem stone. She then made a derpy face and shrugged her shoulders, her pupils moving to the opposite corners of her eyes.
"Nope!"
Steven sighed and looked down at the butterfly-shaped gem, once again rubbing his thumbs across its edges soothingly. "Of course you don't. . ." He muttered, a hint of what seemed to be sadness in his voice.
Steven then sighed and stood up.
"Come with me." He muttered, gesturing for Spinel to come over with his finger.
The pink gem smiled and nodded happily before skipping over to him as Steven opened the door, still staring at the gem in his hand.
Who are you? He wondered, not noticing the soft glow beginning to emit from the (F/c) gem as he placed it back into his pocket gently.

"Wowee! That things sure is big!" Spinel exclaimed as Steven, Greg and the rest of the gems stared up at the large injector that sat atop the hill. The machine seemed to pump more and more of the pink liquid inside of it into the Earth with every passing second.
Spinel turned to Steven and began to do yet another silly dance. "You wanna climb it or somethin'?" The pink gem asked rather loudly.
Steven frowned and shook his head, turning to Spinel with disbelief in his eyes. "Wait, wait. Are you serious right now? What about that stuff you—" Steven paused and stared at Spinel for a minute. Was it her that did this? Or was it the other gem? Steven clutched the (F/c) gem in his pocket and shook his head.
No. That couldn't be it, right?
.
.
.
Wait, why did Steven care? He didn't even know the gem that he was holding in his pocket. And the gem in his pocket was also the same gem that could have possibly fused(?) with Spinel just to kill him. So why was he upset that it was this specific gem that could have possibly done this.
Steven shook his head. He could think about this later.
Steven took a deep breath, and met Spinel's confused eyes. "Didn't you say that I won't stand a chance against your injector?" Steven questioned, narrowing his eyes and furrowing his brows.
Spinel's arm stretched out into small loops (which would be impossible for any human to do) as she scratched her head. "I said what now?"
Steven stared at her and sighed, his shoulders slumping. "You really don't remember anything, huh?"
Steven sighed again and turned to his pink lion, named Lion, as the animal walked up next to him. "How 'bout you, Lion? Can you make any sense of this?" Steven asked, placing his hands on his hips.
The teenage boy earned a huff in response from the pink lion.
Steven groaned. "Aw, you're no help, either." Steven muttered as he pulled the small object containing the scythe out. He stared at the small object for a second, before shaking his head and turning to his lion. "At least I can store this thing in your mane." Steven said as he placed the object into Lion's mane. . . only for it to fall out.
Steven's eyes widened. His expression then shifted into one of frustration and annoyance as he gritted his teeth. "I can't store things in Lion's mane now? That's like the easiest thing I do!" Steven cried out.
The sixteen year old frowned and kneeled down, picking up the small object quickly before turning his gaze back to the injector.
"What do I do?" He asked himself, gripping the pink object in his hand tightly as he grabbed ahold of the gem in his pocket; almost as if it were to comfort him in some way, for some reason.
"I've got no friends to help me except. . ." Steven's eyes soon widened in realization as he quickly turned to a certain, special place: Little Homeworld, where a certain trio of gems were currently at.
"Bismuth, Lapis and Peridot. . ." Steven muttered slowly.
The teenager hummed, his lips straightening out into a thin line as he stuffed the pink object back into his pocket; him and the others seemingly not noticing the (F/c) gem that had fallen out of his other pocket onto the sandy beach floor.
"Come on guys. Let's go figure out how to fix this!" Steven yelled out as he began to run towards Little Homeworld, with Spinel — of course — following after him.
Steven, however, soon came to a screeching halt once he realized that Spinel was the only gem following after him.
"Guys?"
"My Um Greg, allow me." Pearl said as she pulled an umbrella out of her gem and held it over Greg's head, who looked a little unsettled by her. . . unfamiliar behavior.
Amethyst, who had been standing next to Pearl, tilted her head slightly in curiosity before shapeshifting into Greg, confusing Pearl as she began to look between the real Greg and Amethyst over and over again, trying to figure out which one was the real one.
Steven frowned and looked away from the three and over to the other two; "Ruby? Sapphire?" Steven asked, his voice wavering a bit.
Ruby huffed and placed her hands on her hips as she narrowed her eyes at Steven suspiciously. "She's not going anywhere with you!" Ruby said as she opened her arms in front of Sapphire protectively.
". . . I do see us following him to the country side. . ." Sapphire suddenly spoke, making Ruby blink and look over to her; just as the blue gem was walking past her.
Ruby cleared her throat. "Nevermind! We're going." Ruby said before quickly following after Sapphire.
"Wait! Don't leave me alone with these two!" Greg said, sounding nervous as he gestured to the two gems next to him, an uncomfortable look on his face.
Steven looked over to Ruby and Sapphire, who had walked ahead of him and Spinel, before turning his attention back to his dad. "Just keep an eye on them for now! I'll be back!"
And with those words, Steven turned a heel and ran off; not only leaving Greg, Pearl and Amethyst behind, but the mysterious, butterfly-shaped gem as well.
And then, the gem began to glow under the sand that was starting to bury it.
