Eagle Fang dojo !!

ELIANA STOOD IN A LINE WITH THE BOYS IN HER DOJO. They were currently waiting for Johnny to start their beginning lecture. Or the actual lesson.

He paced in front of the custom mural painted on the wall, it was the Eagle Fang logo. An Eagle with blood dripping from its teeth.

It was anatomically incorrect, but everyone knew Johnny wouldn't have listened to them if they tried to say anything about it.

"This is the worst thing that could've happened to us," Johnny held up the paper in his hand.

"Skills competition, bullshit. Kata isn't karate. It's dancing! What's this crap about a girls' division? Thought they were all about women's lib. They ought to man up and take a punch like the rest of us."

Eliana quietly snickered at Johnny's comments when his back was turned. She wasn't scared of him seeing her, just scared of him pointing her out and making her do push ups or something.

"Sensei, it sounds like we could use some female students." Miguel spoke up.

Eliana hit his arm, "What am I? Chopped liver?"

"No, no, no! It's just that you're the only girl, and it could help to have more than one for a better chance to win the girls' division."

She narrowed her eyes at her brother's panicked expression. Before she could say anything else, Johnny interrupted them.

"Hey!" Their heads swung to face the blond, "Do any of you even know any girls?"

No one said anything, in fact they all looked away from Johnny.

"Of course you don't." He turned to Eliana, "Not even you, Eliana?"

She was lost in thought, searching her memory for anyone she might know that could be in touch with their angrier side enough to fight someone, physically.

"I might know someone." Johnny nodded woth a slight smile and turned his head when Bert raised his hand.

"There's this girl from the debate team."

"Debate team? We need killers, not more nerds. Ellie, the girl you know a killer?"

A few hasty memories flew by in her mind, and she nodded confidently. "Yup."

"Good." A beat of silence passed."Alright, go run some laps maybe it'll jog the rest of your memories."

The class, besides Miguel, started to jog.

"Try not to breathe too much. There's black mold in the corner. And Eliana!" She stopped and turned around, watching Johnny gesture for her to return to her spot.

"Yes, Sensei?"

"Who's the girl you know? I need her name."

"Juno Elswith, sir."

"Great, thanks. No go jog."

Eliana nodded her head and was gone. She quickly caught up with the others, jogging at a bit of a faster pace than the others.

The quietness of her jog, tuning out any conversations around her, allowed her mind to think about the new parts of the All Valley.

A girls' division. She wouldn't have to fight Kenny, thank god. But did that mean... she would have to fight Sam? Or worse, Tory?

Public sports park !!

"Okay. This is it. This is where most of the girls' teams practice."

Miguel, Eliana and Johnny walked onto the grass. There were girls playing soccer, flag football, and some just ran around with their friends.

The goal? To recruit.

"You sure you're gonna be able to convince 'em?"

Johnny scoffed, "Please. When I went to this school, the only thing I was better at than karate, and I was pretty good at karate, was talking to chicks."

"Which, I'm pretty sure was for a different goal?" Eliana leaned forward to reach Johnny's line of sight.

He brushed her off and resumed walking while the pair stood behind him. "Watch and learn, Diaz. Watch and learn."

He would approach girls and word his proposal in less than likable ways, or the suspicious location of the dojo would deter them from listening further.

Eventually, Johnny resorted to using Miguel's muscles to attract girls. It was pretty disgusting to Eliana, mostly because it just consisted of Miguel flexing his arms to show off his muscles as a way to lure girls in.

The thought alone of seeing Miguel act that way was a bit gross. And the sight of it proved her point.

And surprise, surprise. They were unsuccessful.

"I don't get it. I thought girls today were supposed to be tough." The trio walked towards Johnny's car to leave. "Why can't we find anyone for our team?"

Miguel shrugged, "Maybe not everyone needs karate. Especially girls who are already on sports teams."

"That's a good point." Eliana interjected. "I mean, before Miguel started karate, I was a total couch potato."

They turned just as the siblings were spotted by Moon.

"Hey, Miguel." Her smile was as big as ever, a usual expression on her face. But when she realized the girl with the boys was Eliana, her smile grew bigger and she hugged her. "Eliana!"

Eliana didn't hesitate to reciprocate the motion, but kept it short.

"Hey, Moon, what's up?"

Her smile faded into a disgusted one, "Ugh, apparently some perv was creeping on the track team, so we're gonna practice inside." Immediately after, the smile returned. "What are you guys doing here?"

Eliana snorted at the unintentional dog at Johnny and answered for the boys. "We're here to recruit for our new dojo."

Johnny pointed both fingers at her, "Eagle Fang Karate."

"Yeah." Miguel held an arm up as if reaching out to Moon. "Y'know, you should join, actually."

"Really? Okay. Yeah, that sounds like fun." She looked overjoyed for a second, then the idea seemed to finish loading in her head. "Wait. Do... do I have to hit anyone?"

Johnny wasted no time in confirming for her the violence that comes with karate.

"Oh, no, then I'm out. I... I can't do the whole physical aggression thing." The siblings nodded their heads in unison.

"You guys should ask my ex."

"Hawk? Yeah—"

"No, my... My other ex." Eliana cocked an eyebrow. "She's the best athlete in school and she's not afraid to get into a fight."

Johnny looked to Miguel and Eliana. "Sounds like the badass babe we've been looking for."

Moon made a small, unsure sound. "You might want to take a different approach with her. Want some pointers?"

"Absolutely."

She gave a rundown on her ex, Piper Elswith. Johnny felt like the last name sounded familiar but couldn't think of where. Eliana was more surprised at the fact that she didn't know Moon was queer. Not that she had a problem with it, she had always been open to that idea, she just didn't know that about Moon.

Gymnastics center !!

The trio watched as Piper flipped over and over on the mat, almost landing perfectly.

"I mean, she's fast, she's strong..."

"Girls a natural Eagle."

A man standing beside Johnny, smiling, looked to him. He'd assumed Johnny was a parent watching his daughter. "Oh, which one is yours?"

Johnny pointed to Piper, "Well, that one looks good to me. Haven't talked to her yet, though," The man looked at Johnny in disbelief, "Still working on my approach. Got any advice?"

The man turned and walked away without a word while Eliana sighed. It was a miracle no one had reported him. And a little concerning, if she was being honest.

Miguel leaned to Johnny, "Okay Sensei, remember what Moon told you?"

"Yes, I will be awake." And he was off.

"Uh, no. No, no, no. Be woke!"

"Miggy," Eliana rushed with her brother to catch up with Johnny. They couldn't let this man alone with another girl without worrying that he would end up punched or reported to the police.

Miguel hurried to walk in front of Johnny, catching Piper's attention. "Hey, Piper." She immediately turned away from the girl she was talking with and looked to Miguel, "I wanted to introduce you. This is, uh—"

"Sensei John Lawrence of Eagle Fang Karate." He smiled, "Let me tell you why my dojo is perfect for a modern young woman like yourself."

Okay, sounds promising. Eliana thought.

"We live in a world where you gotta he an alpha to survive. You're either a killer, or you're dead meat. You gotta be a man."

Never fucking mind, oh my god.

Eliana and Miguel gave each other and sad look. This dumb, old man blew it. It was even obvious on the smirk on Piper's face.

"At Eagle Fang we confront that problematic phrase and make it empowering for all."

Eliana widened her eyes at Johnny with hopefulness. And she'd never swerved her head around so fast.

"We teach anyone who identifies as female to embrace their queenly strength, and tear down the neo-masculine hierarchy to confront internalized sexism."

Eliana tugged Miguel down to hear her whisper, "Okay, where did he learn this shit from so quickly?"

"I have no idea." Both their faces had the subtlest smiles full of pride.

Piper looked Johnny up and down quickly, still smiling. "Sounds inclusive. But what about non-binary and gender fluid?"

"Yes, fluids are crucial." Eliana held in a laugh. "If you don't hydrate, it affects performance."

The younger ones of the group laughed before Miguel tried to save the situation.

"And he's funny."

"Well, actually, I have been meaning to join a dojo. I don't wanna be the last person in the valley who doesn't know karate."

"Well, then today is your lucky day." Johnny handed her a paper they had been giving out to other girls.

"Piper," Eliana stepped forward while Piper read the paper. "What about Juno? She doesn't—"

"Hey, Piper. Come check this out!" A girl from behind her called out for her, louder than Eliana was speaking and she shut her mouth.

"Okay, cool. I'll be there."

"Alright."

She walked off and the trio were giddy.

"Sensei, I can't believe you pulled that off."

"Do you even know what any of those terms meant?"

"Johnny scoffed again, "Do I look like I pee sitting down?" And he backed away from the teens with a proud look.

Alleyway !!

A brunette smashed her knee into another girl's face. "Fucking racist."

She dusted herself off and walked out the alley, leaving the girl behind her, crying and in pain. Her phone buzzed, and she saw a request for an Instagram message.

Heyyy, wanna learn some karate?? 😋

Why do I need to learn karate?

Lots of kids are

And don't you think itd be smart to learn how to fight them back properly?

Eagle Fang dojo !!

Eliana was really hoping she actually convinced Juno to join. To be honest, though, she wasn't feeling too confident. Especially, because Piper hadn't arrived yet.

"Alright, so she's a little late, no big deal. Just a few minutes." Johnny paced in a small circle while everyone waited for Piper to arrive.

"Uh, 20 minutes, actually."

Johnny turned to Penis Breath and he looked to the ground, regretting his decision to speak.

"Okay, uh, look, I'll-I'll DM her." Miguel hurriedly pulled out his phone, "See where she is." He opened an app on his phone, and his eyes opened wide. "Oh, no."

"What?"

Miguel didn't answer, so Johnny looked at Miguel phone only to see a livestream of a Cobra Kai box. Piper joined Cobra Kai.

"She joined Cobra Kai?"

"Looks like they made designer gear for all the new students. They got a bunch of new recruits."

"Yeah, great. So, that was just a big waste of time. I even learned feminism." He walked away from the group watching Miguel's phone.

"Look, we can't give up, Sensei." Johnny rolled his eyes and turned to Miguel. "If we want first place, we have to compete in the girls' division."

Eliana stepped up to Johnny, her arms crossed in determination. "I will work extra hard to make sure I can fight good enough to beat Tory."

Johnny laughed dryly, "That'll be hell. I hope you're ready for that."

"Definitely." Eliana couldn't truthfully say she had the most confidence in herself, but Johnny didn't have to say that.

"I hope you like to get up at the crack of dawn."

"Wait, when do classes start? No offense, but morning classes sound like bullshit."

The whole dojo turned around to see whose voice they all heard. They all looked mildly confused, besides Eliana. She was letting out that toothy grin of hers.

A girl in a slim white dress with red flower details, a red cardigan over. Eliana first noticing her white knee high socks and her bright red heels. She held a small red bag and had a pearl necklace on. And she smelled like cherries.

Johnny nodded towards her, "Who the hell are you?"

"Juno. Who are you?" She looked him up and down, it was clear she was perfect for this.

Anthony's bedroom !!

Eliana paced in front of Anthony, for the past 10 minutes, she'd been complaining about Johnny's poorly thought out plan to have one of the boys dress as a girl for the tournament.

Anthony watched and listened closely as she ranted, waiting patiently for her to finish.

After some time, she completed her rant, huffed, and plopped down onto the boy's bed beside him.

"I just don't understand why he can't trust me to win."

Anthony hesitated for a moment, "Well, to be fair, she's been in this longer than you have."

"Yeah, I know that. Obviously." She lifted herself up, leaning against her elbows. "I'm just saying." She pouted, playing with her hair.

Anthony sighed and stood up, patting her leg. "You hungry? Maybe food will cheer you up."

She gasped and sat up, "Yes! Help me up." She reached out her hand for him to grab it and he thought for a second before pulling her up by her wrist.

She was glad they were getting along, and already a great deal friendlier than before. This was normal for them now. Coming over to each other's houses. Hanging out in each other's rooms. They were the best of friends in a matter of weeks.

They were a great pair. No one saw them the way they saw each other. They didn't have many people, but each other was enough.

They wouldn't think of each other in that exact way for a while, though. And it would be a long time until Eliana realized the true way she felt about Anthony.
