Diaz apartment !!

MIGUEL SHOOK HIS SISTER GENTLY TO WAKE HER UP. "Ellie, get up." And he pulled off her blanket when she made a noise, successfully getting her up.

"Give that back!" Eliana sit up to reach for the cover but gave up after she watched Miguel leave the room.

She looked to her side and tapped on her phone to check the time. It was 7:27 and almost time for school to start.

She quickly changed into her go to outfit, small top, big bottoms and something over it. Today, it was a brown tank top tucked into gray jeans with a plaid flannel.

After tying her shoes, she grabs her bag and leaves the apartment. Unfortunately, she took too long to get a ride with Miguel and Eli so she had to ride the bus.

School bus !!

So far the bus ride was as she expected, loud. There was lots of kids laughing and yelling but Eliana didn't care too much, she just ignored them by blasting her music in her wired earbuds.

It wasn't until she noticed a kid on the sidewalk dancing with his headphones on that she took hers off, laughter erupting her ears. She watched the boy enter the bus slowly with a frown on his face.

"Nice moves, new kid." Zack Thompson spoke up, unsurprisingly. "What do you call that? The loser limbo?"

Then Anthony LaRusso pulled himself up to ad his two cents, "No, no, no, no, I-I-I think it's called the, uh, I'm-trying-not-to-shit-my-pants dance."

Eliana didn't think they were all that funny, and stood up to grab the boys' attention. "Wow, very clever Anthony." She rolled her eyes and glared at the curly head, gesturing the new kid to sit with her.

She sat down and moved her bag from the seat beside her to her lap, greeting the boy.

"Don't worry about them, I'm Eliana."

"Kenny." He was quiet and wouldn't make too much eye contact but Ellie knew it was just from embarrassment, so she didn't take it personally.

She thought of making conversation but figured he wasn't in a talking mood. She put in her earbuds, resumed her music and looked out the window until they reached the school.

Gym class !!

Basketball. Oh, how Eliana hated playing basketball. She didn't care for sports in general, and especially hated when the coach made the kids play just so he didn't have to actually do his job. Plus, she wasn't very good at the sport.

Suddenly, the sweet sound of the coach's whistle went off. "'Kay, let's switch it up! New kid, get in there. We'll get you some gym clothes next week."

Eliana walked to Kenny, "You're on my team."

He smiled to her, and they made conversation while two more boys joined the court. The two boys that happened to be LaRusso and Thompson.

"You gotta be kidding me." Kenny sighed, looking to the floor.

The boys joined their friend and immediately focused on Kenny. Anthony tossed the ball to him, "I'll cover the ballerina."

Then, the whistle was blown and the game started. Kenny was obviously better than Anthony at the game and quickly scored a point while everyone else watched.

Zack made his way behind Anthony, angrily. "Come on, LaRusso, you gotta stop that!"

"I'm open!"

The ball was tossed to Anthony, and he maybe would've made the shot if Kenny didn't hit the ball into his face to block it.

The kids laughed as he hit the ground, and Eliana snorted before helping him up while Kenny hurried to grab the ball.

"Oh shit!" Zack rushed to Anthony, "Dude, you just facialed!"

"Not a word." Eliana corrected under her breath.

"Bust out some of that karate!"

Anthony glanced at the floor, "I told you, okay? The- I can't. Those moves cause, like, permanent brain damage."

The girl beside him could tell it was bullshit but didn't feel like pointing that out.

Zack groaned, disappointed and made an unpleasant facial expression. "Whatever, LaPusso!"

Eliana quickly shoved the blond. "Hey, shut up Zack. Why don't you learn how to not rely on someone else to bully for you."

Zack walked away while Kenny walked up to them.

"Sorry, man. It was an accident."

Anthony snatched the ball from Kenny, getting in his face. "Bullshit!"

They stared at each other for beat, then Eliana pulled Anthony by the shoulder and a girl named Lia told him to give Kenny a break.

"We've got a game to finish."

Anthony glanced at Lia and looked at Ellie for a bit longer before calming down and and leaving. "Yeah. Yeah, alright."

Lia turned to face Kenny, "Just ignore them. Dope shirt, by the way."

"Thanks! I'm... Kenny." Before he could properly introduce himself, Lia was gone and back with her friends. Eliana noticed his gaze lingering on the girl and scoffed.

"Don't tell me you have a crush on her after one conversation."

"What? 'Course not." Kenny turned to his friend, nervously chuckling. "Nah, I just wanted to ask for the ball."

She hummed in faux agreement and laughed. All while Anthony watched them, his face contorting in jealousy.

English classroom !!

The next day, in English class, Eliana felt tired. She didn't sleep much the night before. A recurring problem since Miguel's injury. The sight of her brother in a hospital bed, comatose, burned into her mind.

Mr. Crane walked into the classroom with a paper in hand. A seating chart.

"Okay. I'm gonna switch up some of the seating 'cause I've noticed some of you can't work where you are right now." He didn't make it obvious, but everyone knew he was referring to Anthony and Marcus. They talked all throughout the class all the time and barely did their work.

He held up the paper, listing out names and who their new partners were.

"LaRusso, back with Diaz." Anthony slowly stood and moved his stuff to the desk beside Eliana.

"Hey." He quietly greeted while the teacher continued moving kids.

Eliana nodded her head towards the boy and smiled half heartedly. She was tired and just wanted the school day to be over but didn't want to seem rude.

A few minutes passed and the class was completing a worksheet. At least, some of them. Some whispered to their friends, a writing on the paper in front of them every now and then.

Anthony used his pencil sparingly, his eyes fixated on Eliana. He wouldn't look right at her, in fear of her noticing his staring. But, he couldn't keep himself from not looking at all.

"I'll be right back, please keep working. If we have time, we can play a game of Kahoot before next period." Mr. Crane stood from his desk, excusing himself and leaving the class.

As soon as the door shut behind him, everyone started talking, louder than before, to their friends.

Eliana never lost her focus on the paper in front of her. Meanwhile, Anthony racked his brain on topics for conversation.

"Do you think a hotdog is a sandwich or a taco."

"What?"

"Nevermind."

Silence blanketed the duo for a few seconds.

Anthony reluctantly opened his mouth again. "What's your stance on double dipping?"

Eliana stood writing and confusingly looked to her partner, responding after a pause.

"Why not just get your own dip? It's a bit gross."

Anthony smiled subtly and nodded his head, happy he successfully initiated a conversation. Hoping he could keep it going.

Eliana's mind was on Kenny. This morning, he told her about how Lia invited him to hang out with her that night but, she could've sworn she heard Lia mention a family activity she had planned today..
