"A Beach House?" I was confused. "What's that?"
Nicole and Donna stared at me for a moment before it clicked.
"I always forget that you don't know what most of these things are," Nicole said shyly. "A Beach House is a house that's on the beach. Xavier's pack is wealthy, so we have a private beach as well."
Xavier puffed out his chest. "I like money. Also, all packs around here are wealthy from whatever business they are invested in."
"What are you invested in?" I asked.
Xavier chuckled. "Ironically, Apple. But not the fruit, the technology company. We invested in them and a couple of other technology companies."
I nodded with new knowledge as Liam gave me one pancake and a small pad of butter. The butter melted and flowed on the pancake with ease. More food came to the table, and soon everyone was sitting down and putting food on their plates.
"When are we supposed to be leaving for the Beach House?" Liam asked. "I want to make a call to my pack and see how everyone is doing."
Donna ate a strawberry. "Oh, you'll have time. Xavier and Kyle have to do some stuff here first. Nicole and I still need to pack their stuff."
Nicole looked at me. "Do you want Ember to come?"
"I think he'd come regardless." I pushed the fork prongs against my thumb. "Where would he sleep?"
"There's a room with bunk beds. You and Ember can sleep there, and we'll blow up an air mattress for Liam." Kyle said while peeling a banana. "Hopefully, you won't mind, Liam. If you do then-"
"Nah, it's all good. I don't mind the air mattress. I'll look after the kids at night." He snickered. Liam looked at my pancake with a frown. "Sorry, I forgot the maple syrup."
Liam poured a brown, thick liquid down on my pancake, raced down to the plate. They covered the entire thing and solidified into a coat for my pancake.
"Alright, there you go!" Liam stopped pouring. "Go ahead and dig in."
I didn't know how to eat pancakes, but I knew how to use a fork. So, I stabbed it and took a bite.
Oh my.
47. Oh. My. Pancake.
A fluffy cloud graced my tongue and melted in my mouth with a sweetness that accented it. My tastebuds swooned when the food met my mouth, and I smiled as I chewed. Good couldn't even describe the flavor explosion in my mouth.
I didn't know when I started, but I was slightly bouncing in my chair with excitement- and everyone was watching with smiles.
"Kye! You're so cute!" Nicole and Donna squealed.
I took another bite of my pancake and bounced in my chair. Liam laughed and poured my glass full of milk from a glass jar on the table.
He handed me the cup, and my sticky hands grabbed it. I drank it- it was bland but cleaned my mouth of pancake residue.
Soon, it was all gone.
"It's good to see that you finally have an appetite. I guess those souls really made you not want to eat." Xavier observed. "How do you feel now?"
I touched a hand to my chest. "Compared to before, I feel much lighter. It felt like something heavy was on my chest all the time. Now it feels like I'm wearing a big coat." I picked up the rest of the first pancake. "It's not unpleasant, and an Angel is supposed to come to take the rest soon."
"Oh, that's right. Charon said the sunrise of the third day after the death, but that's already passed." Liam recalled. "I'm guessing they didn't come since you are still somewhat heavy, anyways."
I nodded but was confused at the missing confusion from Nicole, Donna, and Kyle.
Donna must've read my face and spoke up. "Oh, Xavier and Liam caught us up while you were still down there. Nicole and I were going to tell you that we were going to the Beach House yesterday, but you weren't here yet."
Kyle sighed. "It's like we take our eyes off of you for a second, and something happens. Hopefully, at the Beach House, nothing happens."
"As much as I wish that were true, Kye's probably going to see the Angel while we are there. Charon said that if they didn't show up yet, then it's an old Angel." Liam shrugged. "Hopefully, they procrastinate a bit longer if that's the case."
"We'll be ready, regardless." Xavier leaned back in his chair. "Kye, when you're done, go summon Ember and tell him what's happening."
I nodded in agreement. "I have a question, though."
"What's up?" Xavier asked.
"Can I have another pancake?"
