Season Two : Episode Three, Help Is Not Coming.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
August 2018
Due to the after shock the building shifted even more, causing the old man to fall out of the window and pummel to his death.
Ali's rope snapped but luckily Eddie caught her, Becca and Buck used all their strength to pull them both back in and soon they all made their way out of that hotel room.
"That's it. You're doing great. You've, uh, you've done this before, haven't you?" Buck Said, as they all walked carefully down the stairwell.
"Yeah. It was, uh, my major at the Rhode Island School of Design." Ali said sarcastically, "Sorry. Sarcasm is my fallback for pretty much everything."
"I totally get it." Buck Said
Becca hopped off a stair almost losing her balance but Eddie caught her, she nodded to him then he lended his hand out for Ali.
"I got you." Eddie Said
"Okay. You think he'll still be on the sidewalk when we get down there?" Ali Asked, looking back at Buck.
"No. And we're not going out that side, anyway." Buck Simply said, sending a gentle smile at her.
Becca noticed the two were somewhat flirting with each other, then cleared her throat.
"Let's hustle up, you two. We don't want to be here
for the next aftershock." Becca Said
"Wait, what do you mean, the next aftershock?" Ali Questioned
"Look come on we're almost there." Eddie Said
Ali sighed then started moving down the rail carefully following behind Eddie and Becca.
"There we go you're gonna be fine." Becca Said
"Oh!" Ali Said, as she almost fell but Buck caught her.
"You're gonna be fine, he's right behind you." Eddie Said
"Okay." Ali nodded
As they moved down the stairwell they noticed that the way they came in, was blocked off by debris thanks to the aftershock.
"Oh, you gotta be kidding me." Buck sighed
"We're not getting out this way." Eddie Said, looking around with his flashlight.
"Now what?" Ali Said
"We go back up." Becca Said, letting out a frustrated sigh.
"Back up?" Ali Said
Bobby's voice then was heard coming in through the radio, "Ladder 118, respond. This is Captain Nash.
I need a head count."
"Ladder responding. Diaz, Buckley, Martinez we're good, Cap." Eddie Replied, into the intercom.
"Castillo and Jackson responding."
"Paulson, Marcus and Riley responding.
"Chimney responding."
"Violet Responding."
"Hen, do you copy? Hen? This is Captain Nash for Henrietta Wilson. Do you copy?"
Eddie, Buck and Becca all shared a worried look after not hearing Hen respond.
"Is that a friend of yours?" Ali Asked
"Let's keep moving." Eddie Said, then they started walking back up.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Minutes later the three firefighters and Ali found themselves back upstairs. Buck lends his hand out to help Ali get out, then Eddie and Becca walked out behind them then started to untie the rope's tethered to them.
"Miss, there's this egress on the north stairwell of this floor." Eddie Said
"What if it's blocked, too? Can't you guys get a ladder
into one of the windows?" Ali Asked
"It's too risky the building shifted too much." Becca Said
"No, we got this, Abby. We'll get you out of here." Buck Said
"Ali." She Said
"What?" Buck Said
"You called me Abby. My name's Ali." She corrected
"Uh, yeah. Sorry. Um, Abby is my...It's complicated." Buck Said, as they started moving down the hallway.
"Isn't it always?" Ali Said
"Uh, she's in Europe. She's traveling. For the first time, I'm glad she's not around I don't need the worry." Buck Said
The three of them come to a stop at a wall then starts moving the debris out the way. As Ali finds a tray and then picks up mini tequila bottles, and starts downing them.
"Having someone to worry about sounds...nice, actually. All I do is work." She drinks a bottle, then notice their looking at her, "What?" It's after 5:00 It's not like it slowed us down." Ali Said
As Eddie and Buck continued to shove some stuff out the way, a voice is heard and Becca taps their shoulders.
"Hey, hey, hey, hey. Hey." Becca Said
"What?" Eddie and Buck Said
"Is anyone there?" A voice called out
"You guys hear that?" Becca Asked
"Help! Is anyone there?"
"It's coming from in there." Buck Said
Eddie picks up bud halligan bar to open the door, he, Becca and Buck carefully make their way into the room to help the man laying on the ground as Ali stayed near the door.
"I knew help would come, my name's Batari." He Said
"That's right. We're here, we got you, buddy." Eddie Said
"All right, don't move. Just relax, okay? I need you to stay as still as possible." Buck Said
"Okay, we got to roll him over." Becca Said
"On three. One, two, three." Buck Said
They rolled him onto his side and Batari lets out a loud scream.
"Easy, it's okay just breathe Batari." Becca Said, as the man nodded.
"I...uh, I soiled myself." Batari Said
"Forget about that, okay?" Eddie Said
"Not my proudest moment." Batari Sighed
"It's okay, no one's judging you." Becca Said
"I'll be back." Buck Said, then slid down the floor to look around the room.
Eddie and Becca started to take off his shoes, and checked on his body for any signs of injuries.
"Can you wiggle your toes for me?" Eddie Asked
Batari groans as he tries to wiggle his feet but can't, Becca and Eddie shared a knowing look.
"Stay with him alright." Eddie Said
"Okay." Becca Said
Eddie then carefully stood and slid down the floor, to meet up with Buck near the bed.
"Numbness in his legs, loss of bladder control." Buck Said
"Spinal injury we got to move him out now." Eddie Said
"On what? We don't have a backboard, and every millimeter counts." Buck Said
"You see anything?" Eddie Asked
"No." Buck Said
Ali looks around the room until she opened the closet, and pulled out an ironing board.
"Guys. What about this? Ironing board." Ali Said
"That could work." Eddie Said
"Yeah but how are we gonna get him down the stairwell?" Becca Questioned
"Maybe we don't use the stairwell." Buck Said, as Eddie and Becca looked to each other.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
They walked back out into the hallway, until they found an elevator. Buck and Eddie opened the doors up and they all peeped their heads into the shaft.
"At least we're not blocked by any debris." Eddie Said
"Or an elevator." Ali Said
Eddie then looked up and saw that there was an elevator cart up above them.
"Um, how much do you think that weighs?" Ali Asked
"2,500, 3,000 pounds? Lucky guess." Eddie Said, as Becca and Buck looked up.
"I like our chances." Buck Said
"Are you sure about this?" Becca Questioned, as Buck turned and looked at her.
"Yeah, just trust me." Buck Said, then softly patted her shoulder.
Soon they go back inside the hotel room and tie Batari to the ironing board, then tied him to rappelling gear down the elevator shaft.
While Becca helped secure and tie Eddie's harness, as she was done she gave him a thumbs up to start moving down.
"How are you doing Batari?" Eddie Asked
"Okay, so far." Batari Said, giving him a thumbs up.
Back up near the elevator door opening, Becca, Buck and Ali watched as Eddie and Batari slowly made their way down.
"And how are you feeling?" Buck Asked, looking to Ali.
"Not dead yet." Ali Replied
"You guys are doing great, you're almost there." Buck Said
"Okay about eight more feet, Buck." Eddie Said
"All right." Buck Said, as he lended down some more rope.
Eddie makes his way to the door and looks back up at them. "Get down here, guys."
"All right, we're on our way." Buck Said
"You guys go first, I'll be right behind you." Becca Said
"Okay, You ready?" Buck Said
"Okay." Ali Said
Eddie gets the elevator doors open as Buck helps Ali, then she wraps her legs around his waist and neck as they start to move down the shaft.
"You're okay. You're okay." Buck assured
"Okay. Okay." Ali Said
Becca then secured her rappelling gear then grabbed onto the rope and slowly went down. Down below as Eddie was getting the doors opened, suddenly up above the elevator cart started to move and the building was shaking again.
"Oh shit." Becca Said
"Is the building vibrating?" Batari Asked, looking to Eddie worriedly.
Becca, Buck and Ali looks up as the cart started to move down.
"Eddie! Eddie, kick that door open!" Buck Said
Eddie gets the door open and safely gets Batari inside, then looks out and up at the three of them.
"Let's go, Becca Buck! Move your assess!" Eddie Yelled out
"All right, here we come." Buck Said
Ali screamed out as Buck tried to calm her down, Eddie held out his arms as Ali jumped off of Buck and he caught her as they make their way through the elevator door. Becca was moving quickly as she saw the cart was inches away from crushing her.
"Becca hurry!" Buck Said
"Catch me!" Becca Said
She jumped off the rope from above and Buck caught her, grabbing onto her tightly as they both swinging in through the door. The two land on the ground as the elevator cart crashes down, Buck covers Becca until the rumbling stops. Becca who was on top of Buck, looked down at him as they were both breathing heavily.
"You guys okay?" Eddie Asked
"Yeah, I'm good." Ali Said
"I'm fine, nice catch Buck." Becca Said, looked down at Buck, as a small smile appeared on his face.
"I told you I liked our chances." Buck Said
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
Meanwhile down below other firefighters and Bobby, Chim and Violet are still looking for Hen.
"The pillars in the south side of the garage haven't collapsed, so she must've found a pocket of space
in there and moved through." Bobby Said, looking at the GPS.
"South side of the parking garage?" Chimney Said
"Yeah. We've been attacking this from the wrong angle." Bobby Said, handing the GPS tracker back to a rescue member.
"Then we need to head south." Violet Said
"Exactly. We're gonna head South, all right? South side of the parking garage." He announced to the team, "This is Captain Nash. We are on the move.
I need jackhammers, diamond saws, jaws, every heavy duty piece of equipment you have and every
available pair of hands. We are going down to the
southern corner of the garage, level B3." Bobby Said, speaking into his radio.
"Negative, Captain." Captain Miranda spoke up, "Engineers have warned of a possible complete collapse. We need to begin the evacuation."
"No can do. We still have a firefighter trapped down here." Bobby Said
"I'm sorry. I understand. This is a direct order."
Bobby sighed then turned to his team, "All right, guys, evacuate. Come on. Double-time. Let's go.
Everybody out. Come on. Up and out, guys. Get
up to safety. Up and out. Let's go, let's go."
Many firefighters started to make their way out from the rubble, as Violet and Chim approached their captain.
"Cap, we can't leave Hen behind. She'd be here till the end if it were one of us." Chimney Said
"I know. I can't ask anyone else to defy a direct order." Bobby Said
"I guess we'll just have to defy those orders then." Violet Said
Bobby nodded then started to make his way down through the debris, as Violet and Chimney followed behind him.
"So have you given much thought to what you'll do after we're fired?" Chimney Said
"We were ordered to leave the building. We're just leaving a different way." Bobby Said
"Yeah, by taking a detour to the bottom of the parking garage." Violet Chimed in
"Yeah." Bobby Said
"It's a choice." Violet Said
"Watch your step." Bobby Said
The three of them made their way into the parking garage, which was dark and the sound of car alarms rang out.
"Hen? Hen." Bobby Said
"Hen, can you hear us?" Violet Said
"Think that ramp is on the other side of this wall?" Chimney Said
"Yeah. Should be right over there." Bobby Said
The three of them came to a stop once they pointed their flashlights up at what appeared to be, cars piled onto each other under rubble and more debris.
"Whoa." Chimney Said
"So the only thing that stands between us and Hen is that." Violet Said
"We're gonna make it through this, Chim, just you, Violet and me, without any help or heavy equipment." Bobby Said
Chimney and Violet shared a look then glanced back over at the sight.
"Sure." Violet Said
"Piece of cake." Chimney Said
"All right, let's see what we can find." Bobby Said
"Copy that." Chimney Said
"Chim, get the valet." Bobby Said
Chimney turned over a valet parking key box, opened it up revealing various keys.
"Let's see what we got." Violet Said
"Here we go." Chimney Said
"All right, scoop 'em up. Let's go. All right, let's see what we got here." Bobby Said, as they all picked up keys.
The three of them split up and looked around the garage, going through cars seeing if they can find anything to get through the rubble.
"All right, got a jack, tools." Bobby Said
"Got another one. Got a toolbox, a jack." Chimney Said
"Got some rope here." Violet Said
Chimney pressed a button on another car key, the alarm chirped and his eyes landed on a vehicle.
"Cap, Vi." Chimney Said
"Yeah?" Bobby Said
"You got to see this." Chimney Said
Bobby and Violet jogged over to him, only to see the large truck in good condition.
"Thinking what I'm thinking?" Chimney Said
"Snow chains." Bobby Said
"Let's start this baby up." Violet Said
Chimney gets in the drivers seat as Bobby and Violet attach the chains to a car, buried underneath a pile of debris.
"It's good Cap." Violet Said
"All right." He and Violet climbs in the back of truck, "All right, Chim, ease it forward." Bobby Said
Chimney starts the truck and slowly drives ahead, Bobby and Violet sees that the rubble is moving.
"It's coming." Bobby Said
"You're good. Keep going, Chim." Violet Said
"How we looking?" Chimney Asked
"Looking good." Bobby Said
He continues to drive forward as the pile moves, then the chain proceeds to snap.
"What happened?" Chimney Asked, stopping the car.
"The chain snapped." Violet Said, as she and Bobby hopped out the back.
"We have any more chain?" Chimney Asked, getting out the truck.
"No. But I think it's far enough out that we can get back behind it and push it out the rest of the way." Bobby Said
"Looks like we got here just in time, then." Buck Said, as he, Eddie and Becca approached the group with tools.
"Yeah, seems like they were planning on having all the fun without us." Eddie Said
"What are you guys doing here?" Violet Asked
"Heard over the radio you needed some equipment
and available hands down here." Becca Said
"You know you guys are disobeying a direct order." Bobby Said
"And they'll be duly reprimanded, as soon as we're done here." Captain Miranda Said, as many first responders approached them as well.
"Looks like you're gonna have to reprimand yourself, as well." Bobby Said
"I'm seriously considering it. Your people are very
persuasive and persistent," She glanced at Becca, Eddie and Buck, "We got we shot, Captain. Either way, no one's coming to rescue us." Miranda Said
Bobby nodded to her then soon they all got to work, Chimney got back in the truck as they connected a stronger rope to pull out all the cars to get a clear path.
"Keep going, Chim, we got to get it clear." Bobby Said
Chimney nodded and pulled out another car, gaining a clear path as Bobby held a thumbs up.
"It's clear now. We need some support beams." Bobby Said
Other firefighters quickly put of support beams to hold up the rubble. Members of the 118 and 122 made their way under the rubble, and started pulling out some rocks to get through.
They all counted to three then pulled down a large rock showing a path, Becca and the team looked ahead hoping they'd see Hen until they heard barking and out came a dog.
"Hen? Hen are you there?" Becca Said
Just at that Hen is seen crawling out carrying the little girl Kat on her back, she smiles at her team letting out a sigh of relief.
"Hey, fellas." Hen Said, then started to cough.
"All right, let's get you out of here." Bobby Said
"Come on." Chimney Said
"Down here, we got you." Buck Said
Hen let's out a laugh as they all swarmed her in a big group hug. The group then made their way out of the garage, Hen safely escorted and reunited Kat with her family.
Bobby and Captain Miranda shook hands thanking each other, Chim checked on Hen to make sure she's okay after she assured him she's fine but he still wanted to be sure. Becca and Violet made their way back to the fire engine, as Buck and Eddie followed behind them.
"What a day." Violet Said
"No kidding, I could really use a shower and a meal." Becca Said
"All I could use right now is some sleep." Violet Said
Buck's phone vibrates then he takes it out, "Yo guys, the service is back on."
Violet, Eddie and Becca all took out their phones to answer a few texts and call a some people. Soon they all headed back to the station to clean up, Buck offered to drive everyone home but first they made a stop over at a school so Eddie could pick up Christopher.
He quickly ran out the vehicle to go embrace and hold his son, as Buck, Becca and Violet all watched on smiling at the moment.
Once Eddie and Christopher got back in the car, Becca and Violet greeted the boy and told them various stories of how they remembered him when he was younger which he enjoyed.
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
After dropping everyone else off Becca was the last one, Buck parked his car and she unbuckled her seat belt.
"Thanks for dropping me off Buck." Becca Said
"Of course no problem, and you might wanna clean up that bandaid of yours just in case your wound opens up again." Buck Said, pointing to her forehead.
"I know and I promise you I'm okay, you saved me twice today from getting crushed by a 3,000 pound elevator and from a pile of rubble back at the station." Becca Said
"Your my friend Becks, I'll always look out for you." Buck Said
"Vice versa," She leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, "Thank you Evan." Becca Said
"Your welcome." Buck Said
The two locked eyes as they shared a meaningful look, Becca smiled at him then got out his car and nodded to him. Buck watched as she entered her house, then drove off.
As Becca entered the house she dropped her stuff at the front door, and entered the living room as Justin, Bryan, Aryana and Dylan are sitting on the couch.
"I'm home." Becca Said
"Mom!" Bryan, Aryana and Dylan Said
The three of them all stood up and and ran over to her, Becca kneeled down as they embraced her in a group hug. A smile came on her face as she was happy to be in the arms of her kids, knowing that they are okay.
"We thought that you were hurt on the job." Aryana Said
"Or worse dead, but Dad said not to think like that." Bryan Said
"Thank god your okay, we were worried about you." Justin Said, as the two shared a quick hug.
"I'm fine I'm just happy that you all are okay." Becca Said
"We're your worried about us?" Dylan Asked
"Of course I was but I prayed and hoped you all were safe. And it looks like you guys were, thanks to your dad." Becca Said
"We weren't alone, someone else joined us to sit and wait." Justin Said
Becca looked as Vince walks out the dining room, and sets down some food on the table.
"Becca." Vince Said
"Hey," She rushed over and hugged him, "You came and stayed with the kids." Becca Said
"Yeah, I drove over to the kids school to see if they were okay and that's when I ran into Justin. We decided to just help out and hang back here, to wait and see if you'll walk through that door..and here you are." Vince Said
"Thanks again for that by the way." Justin Said
"No problem man." Vince Said
Becca smiled at him then kissed him and they hugged again, Vince kisses her temple. Justin and the kids walked into the dining room to eat, as Becca looked up at him.
"Plus I would have hated myself forever, if I never got the chance to say I love you back." Vince Said
"I'm glad you did." Becca Said, then he pulled her back into a hug.
