Season Two : Episode Thirteen, Fight Or Flight

With a calm night so far ahead of him with no plans for the night, Buck was sitting in his Jeep driving home to the apartment. He glanced over at his takeout food over in the passenger seat as his appetite was getting more due to the smell of the Thai food.

With Buck knowing that Maddie was going to be out with Chimney for a couple of hours, there was no need to save any leftovers for her which meant more food for him.

Once he arrived at the complex he parked his car and got out with the food, as he went to go put the pin Buck notices that the gate was slightly opened.

As Buck pushed the door opened a bit and walked further down the walkway, he stopped in his tracks once he saw Chimney down on the ground he dropping his food then ran over towards him.

"Ch-Chim it's me Buck, hey, hey what's going on
what happened.." Buck Said

He turns Chimney around on his back and Buck looked at his hand, which was now covered in blood then saw where the blood was coming from near Chim's torso.

"Oh my god, hang on Chim." Buck Said, then takes out his phone and dials for help.

"9-1-1 what's your emergency?" The dispatcher spoke

"I have an adult male with multiple stab wounds
to his torso. Need medical and police response." He Told, taking off his jacket to apply pressure on the wound.

"Okay, sir, can I get your name?"

"Evan Buckley. I'm a firefighter with the 118." He Said

"Buck?, it's me I'm a friend of Maddie's."

"Hi uh the victim is Howard Han..he's got profuse bleeding to his abdomen. Breathing is labored and
might have hit a lung. Come on, Chim. Hang in there." Buck Informed

"Buck, RA unit's two minutes out, do you know how this happened? How long has he been down?" Josh Asked

"I don't know. I just got home and found him. And given the amount of blood, I would say minutes, not hours." Buck Said

"How's his pulse?" Josh Asked, as Buck placed his fingers near Chim's neck.

"Weak, but it's there." Buck Said

"Jason..." Chimney Mumbled, trying to open his eyes.

"H-Hold on, he's...he's talking. Chim, it's me, it's Buck. I'm here, okay? I just need you to stay with me, Chimney." He Said

"Jason took her..." Chimney Repeated

"Chimney, who is Jason?" Buck Asked

"Maddie..." Chimney Said

Buck forehead creased as he looked confused yet worried, "Where is Maddie? Chimney, where is Maddie?"

"I..I.." Chimney Said, weakly.

"Chimney, where is Maddie? Wh-Where is Maddie?!" Buck Asked, frantically.

Two RA units jogged down the walkway towards Buck with various equipment.

"We got it, sir."

"Maddie! Maddie! Maddie," He ran towards the apartment bursting through the door, "Maddie, where are you? Maddie! Maddie, are in you here?" Buck Said, as he ran upstairs to her room and didn't see her.

"Buck, Buck do you see her?" Josh Asked

"No she's, she's not here. She's gone and all of her stuff is still here, "He walked back out but stopped
at the foot of the stairs, "Oh No." Buck Said

"Buck? What is it, Buck? Did you find something?" Josh Asked

"I found Becca...she's hurt, send more help Josh and fast." Buck Said

From up above at the top of the stairs Buck looked down as he sees Becca who's unconscious and on the ground, his heart sunk at the sight of her laying on the ground presumably hurt. Buck then runs down the stairs and slowly approaches her as he sees a small pool of blood near her body.

"No, no please not you too." Buck Said, frantically.

Buck crouched down near her and turned Becca on her back, he gently held up her head trying keep her awake.

"Becks, Becca..it's me..it's Buck come on, please hang in there for me." Buck Said

He lifted up her shirt to see where the wound was coming from, and saw that the blood was still oozing out from the stab wound near her lower abdomen, he then felt her pulse which felt a little weak.

"Shit," He heard a whisper coming from her, "Huh, Becca what is it?"

Buck brushed some of her hair out of her face, Becca tried opening her eyes and lifted her hand up as she touched his face smearing a bit of her blood on him.

"He took her..." Becca Mumbled

"Who Becca, who took Maddie?" Buck Asked

"Buck..it was him.." Becca Said, then her eyes rolled back and she went unconscious again.

"Hey, hey no you stay awake Becca I got you," He tossed her arm over his neck as he picked her up, "I'm not gonna let you die on me." Buck Said

Buck carried Becca out the apartment in his arms,
he speed walked towards the walkway fast thankfully the first responders aiding Chimney were still there.

"Hey, help! my friend she's hurt please help her she's been stabbed." Buck Shouted

"You go I've got this." She told her partner, then he ran over to Buck.

"Okay, what do we got over here?" He Asked, carrying over a backboard.

"Name Rebecca Martinez, age 27, multiple stab wounds to her abdomen, her breathing is shallow and I just checked her pulse it's weak but stable and by the looks of her blood loss, she needs to be transferred out of here fast." Buck Informed,
laying her down on the backboard.

"Okay, I've got it from here thanks again." He Said, then began aiding to Becca.

Buck looked down at her and various thoughts was going throughout his head, all he wanted and prayed was that she makes it through this. Then he held her blood stained hand for a moment.

"Don't worry Becca, we're gonna find out who did this...and I think know who he is." Buck Said

The ambulance trucks arrived at Mercy General Hospital, where various doctors on call are waiting outside. The door opens and two responders rolled out Chimney.

"Okay, who do we got?" A doctor asked, pulling down his gloves.

"Male, name is Howard Han with multiple stab wounds, he's got profuse bleeding to his abdomen. Breathing is labored and might have hit a lung."

The other ambulance door opened and the other
two responders wheeled Becca out on the gurney.

"Female, name is Rebecca Martinez also with multiple stab wounds near the lower abdomen, massive blood loss but pulse is steady."

"Okay, let's get them inside fast." The doctor replied, then they all wheeled Becca and Chimney inside.

Inside the ER Dr. Stratford was wrapping up her shift, the exhaustion of a long day weighing on her. She walked over to the nurse station, offering a tired but warm smile to one of the nurses on duty.

"Goodnight, Linda," she said, grabbing her bag.

"Goodnight, Dr. Stratford," Linda replied, returning the smile.

Just as she was about to leave, the ER doors burst open. A flurry of activity ensued as doctors and nurses rushed in, wheeling a patient on a gurney. Her eyes widened as she instantly recognized the woman on the gurney.

"Chris, what's going on?" She called out, her voice urgent as she approached Dr. Chris Warren, the attending trauma surgeon.

Chris looked up, his expression grim. "Stab victim. Multiple wounds to the lower abdomen. She's lost a lot of blood."

Dr. Stratford heart pounded in her chest. "I'm in," she said without hesitation.

Chris glanced at her, surprised. "Aren't you supposed to be leaving?"

She shook her head, determination in her eyes. "I suddenly changed my mind. Where do you need me?"

Chris nodded, appreciating her resolve. "Grab a gown and get over here."

Without a second thought, Dr. Stratford tossed her bag onto the nurse station counter and quickly donned an isolation surgical gown. She joined Chris and the rest of the team, her focus laser-sharp.

An hour has passed and on the road after the incident back at the complex, Maddie who was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle Doug's currently driving. She begs him constantly to let her go, he retorts by smacking her across the face making her hit her head on the window.

"Damn it, Maddie! This is your fault. I told you, I told you you couldn't leave me. I warned you." Doug Spat

"Are they dead, Becca and Howard?" Maddie Asked, tearful.

"If they're not not, they will be..besides they're not our problem anymore." Doug Said, simply.

"Why would you do that? He's-he's such a-a kind man, and Becca..she's a mother Doug." Maddie Said

"You think I don't know that? I didn't want to hurt them, I liked Chimney and Becca. I was friends with the guy..you think I wanted to hurt Becca, but she was in the way." Doug Said

"What?" Maddie Said, looking at him in disgust.

"But you cloud me, Maddie you fog up my head.
You always have, If you'd have just stayed." Doug Said

"Doug, how long have you been here?" Maddie Asked

"I needed to make sure you were safe. I saw you with Buck, I thought, all right, fine. She needs some time,
just give her some space and she'll come home, she always comes home. And then Chimney told me
you asked him out, and I knew...I knew I waited
too long." Doug Explained

"No. No, can you just pull over? We can talk. It's not too late." Maddie Urged

"Of course it's too late." He interrupted, "I just two people for you, Maddie. There is no coming back
from that. Not for me, and not for you." Doug Said, then looked back towards the road.

Meanwhile at Maddie's apartment which is now taped off due to the detectives and cops, Buck is now answering questions to Athena, a Detective and Bobby who's standing by.

"It was Doug, Doug Kendall he told Maddie he would kill her if she left him. He did this." Buck Said

"You said he lives in Pennsylvania. He knows she was here?" He Asked

"No, she-she..." Buck Said

"She was filing for divorce that could have put her
back on his radar." Athena Chimed in

"Well, we'll take a look at him, but before your friend
lost consciousness, he said he was attacked by a Jason Bailey. Either of you know who that is?"

"I don't think so." Bobby Said

Buck quickly came into a thought and followed the detective, "Wait...Wait. Hold on, Detective. I know he had a new friend, some guy he was..he was playing pool with. I never met him, but now I
know why, you know, 'cause it was Doug. He got close to Chimney so that he could get close to Maddie." Buck Said

"Listen Mr. Buckley-"

"You don't believe me? I mean, I mean, Chimney's phone is right there. You know, ch-check for yourself." Buck Said, pointing down at the phone on the ground.

"Phone's locked. I can't open it without the victim's consent." He Stated

"They'll subpoena his phone records, but it'll take time." Athena Informed

"Well, Maddie doesn't have time, okay?!" He Shouted, "Come on, Doug did this! He-he almost killed Chimney and Becca, and...and he could...he could kill her next." Buck Said

"But he didn't." Bobby pointed out

"Bobby.." Buck Sighed

"Buck, just listen to me. Buck, may-maybe you're right. It's Doug. And he found out where Maddie was, and he came here, and he hurt Chimney and Becca, but Maddie's not here, and if all he wanted to do was kill her.." Bobby Said

"Then I would have found her, too." Buck Said

"And you didn't..she was alive when he took her, and that's what we're gonna hold onto right now." Bobby Said, then patted his shoulder.

Buck glanced down at the ground where Chimney's phone is, "Um...Can I... can I... can I...can I change my shirt? It-it's covered in..."

"Fine, just don't touch anything," Buck nodded then walked towards the apartment,"And bag his shirt
when he's done. Athena, someone has to prepare him." He Said

"We're not there yet." Athena Said

"You don't think you're gonna find her alive." Bobby Said

"The most dangerous time for a woman in these situations. When she leaves, Maddie knew that.
That's why she was in hiding. But if it is him..." Athena Said

"Those scenarios usually don't come with a happy ending." The Detective said, as Buck walked over with a clean white shirt on.

"Hey, Cap, I need to go to the hospital. I-I-I want to see Becca and Chimney." Buck Said

"I'll drive him." Bobby Said, then walked off behind Buck.

"Anyone see anything?" Athena Asked

"No witnesses. We're still trying to access her security footage, but a camera across the street
caught a man forcing her into his car. All we got
is a four-door sedan, dark in color. Doesn't exactly
narrow the search." He Said

"Hm," She looked back and noticed Chimney's phone wasn't on the ground, "Where's Chimney's phone?" Athena Said

Back over at the hospital where Chimney and Becca were transferred to, word got out about the situation that's going on. Some of the 118 members headed over there waiting in the lobby, the sliding doors opened as Eddie entered and approached Hen.

"I got here as fast as I could-" Eddie Said

He turned around as he heard the sliding doors opened and entered Violet.

"Violet." Eddie Said

"Eddie, Hen..I nearly got into a car accident getting over here. Buck called me an told me everything, how's Becca and Chimney doing?" Violet Asked

"I was just about to ask Hen the same thing." Eddie Said

"They are alive, Chim's got a punctured lung and lacerated stomach. While Becca's got a concussion, and a laceration on the left side of her abdomen." Hen Informed

"Oh my god." Eddie Said, as Violet slightly gasped.

"Are they in surgery yet?" Violet Asked

"Not yet..they lost a lot of blood, but as soon as they're both stable, they'll prep Chim and Becca for surgery." Hen Said

"Okay I get why Chimney was over at Maddie's but I'm confused as to why was Becca there, I thought she and Justin had dinner tonight with the kids?" Eddie

"She did..well was but then Maddie called her for help, Becca offered to help her get ready. So she asked me to watch the kids for a while, and Becca said to drive the kids over to meet up with Justin at the restaurant since she was going to be running a
little late. After I dropped the kids off and I drove
home, I tried calling her several times but..no answer I just figured her phone probably died, but not this." She started to get teary eyed, "Who would do something like this?" Violet Said

"I don't know..I just pray to god they find whoever did it, and fast. Hey did you call Justin or Becca's family?" Hen Said

"Yeah, I called him right after I got off the phone with Buck. Justin and the kids are on their way,
and as for Joyce and Danny they're trying to book the next flight out here." Violet Said

"Let's just hope by the time they get here, everything and everyone will be okay." Hen Said

"Yeah, but for now the best we can do is wait for an update. Let's all just sit down for a minute." Eddie Said

As the three of them went to sit down in the waiting area, Eddie looked over and noticed Violet's hands shaking which always happens to her whenever she's nervous or scared. He then wrapped his arm around her pulling her close to comfort her, and held her hand.

"It's going to be okay, everyone's going to be fine." Eddie Said

"I'm just scared that's all." Violet Admitted

"Don't be, Chimney and Becca is gonna get through this." Eddie Said, as Violet lets out a deep sigh then leans her head on his chest a bit.

"I hope so." Violet Mumbled

A few minutes later Bobby and Buck had arrived at the hospital, while everyone was still in the waiting area Buck managed to sneak off to the ER where Chimney and Becca currently is. He watches as the nurse closes the curtain between the two patients,
Buck then quickly and quietly approaches Chim's bed.

"Sorry about this, buddy." Buck Said

He takes out Chimney's phone and tries lifting his hand, but the nurse comes back and catches him.

"You're not supposed to be in here." She Told

"God, please don't let him die." Buck Said, leaning down towards Chimney.

"Please, sir. You have to go back to the lobby." She Informed, trying to pull Buck off him.

"You can't, you can't die on me." Buck Said, as he used Chimney's fingerprint to unlock his phone.

"Sir, you need to leave, you can't, please..sir, you have to go." She Said

"Okay, I'm going, I'm going." Buck Said

He walked away with the unlocked phone but, just as thought he was in the clear Athena and two officers see him.

"You know, Detective Marks didn't believe me. He said no one could be that stupid and I said, "You don't know Buck." Athena Said

Downstairs in the lobby area Eddie had walked off to see if Buck was okay, as he was currently detained from stealing evidence. In the lobby Justin is seen walking in as the doors slid opened, he looked around until he found a nurse.

"Hi I'm looking for a patient that was brought here her name is Rebecca Martinez, she's the mother of our children I'm Justin Murray-" He Said

"Okay hang on," She looked on the computer at the files, "Ms. Martinez is currently getting prepped for surgery."

"Is there a way I can see her before the surgery, I just want to see if she's okay?" Justin Asked

"I'm sorry Mr. Murray but the doctor on call for the surgery Dr. Warren, is currently about to take her
up to the OR to perform surgery on your wife." She Said

"She's not my wife," Justin corrected, "She's actually my ex wife..but we're friends."

"Oh, well someone on his service will come down and update you soon about the surgery. But for now all you can do is wait with everyone else." She Said

"Thank you." Justin Said, then let out a sigh.

He turned around and saw many people standing and talking, then Justin noticed Violet and Hen sitting down next to each other.

"Justin, hey you made it." Violet Said, as he got up to hug him.

"Hey, I'm Hen..I'm a good friend of Becca." She Said, shaking his hand.

"Yeah, nice to meet you I've heard good things about, sucks we had to meet this way." Justin Said

"Mhm me too." Hen Said

"Uh where are the kids did you tell them what's going on?" Violet Asked

"I told them that their mother was hurt and is at the hospital, but I didn't want them to come..it's just too much for them to wait here and stress themselves out. So I called our babysitter Stacy and she's currently at Becca's house watching them." Justin Said

"I understand." Violet Said

"Do they have a clue who could have done this to Becca and your friend Chimney?" Justin Asked

"Buck suspects it's Maddie's estranged husband Doug. He has a history of being very violent with her, and he may have kidnapped Maddie." Hen Said

"Oh my god, I can't believe this is happening." Justin Said, rubbing his forehead.

Back over near the emergency room wing Buck is sitting down tapping his foot, while Athena and Bobby were down the hall as she was talking on the phone.

"So...that was a bold move." Eddie Said, sitting down next to him.

"Yeah, yeah, I know. "What were you thinking, Buck?" I already got an earful from Athena." Buck Said

"No, I know what you were thinking. I got sisters, too." He scoffed, "Still not sure how you thought
you were getting away with it, though." Eddie Said

"I wasn't worried about that. It's, like, police have
all these rules, you know? Rules that are gonna get Maddie killed. But-but I'm a civilian those rules, they don't apply to me, right?" Buck Pointed Out

"Then why are you in hospital jail?" Eddie Retorted

"I told Maddie...I said that she didn't need to keep on running, that she could start over here, that she would be safe. That I would keep her safe." Buck Said

"This isn't your fault." He assured, "What if she had kept running? You think he wouldn't have found her? Only then, she'd be alone." Eddie Said

"She's alone now, with him." Buck Said, as Athena and Bobby walked back over.

"I spoke with Detective Marks and he's not happy with you." Athena Said

"I-I-I just..." Buck Said

"Yeah, you broke chain of custody. You unlocked Chimney's phone without his permission. And now Marks can't use any of it." Athena Mentioned

"I'm sorry. Okay? I was trying to help." Buck Said

Athena sighed then looked to Bobby who slightly nodded, then she looked back at the blonde boy.

"Okay. Let's go the car's out front." Athena Said

Buck shook his head, "You're arresting me."

"Not yet. But the night's still young." Athena Said

Eddie and Buck looked at Bobby who gestures for him to follow her.

"I think that's your cue." Eddie Said

"Wh-where are we going?" Buck Asked, standing up to follow her.

"To find your sister. If Doug is Jason, this phone is how we find him. But we gonna need a little help." Athena Said, holding up Chimney's phone.

"I thought you said we couldn't use the phone." Buck Said

"I said Marks can't use it this isn't my case. I'm just a concerned friend of the victim." Athena Pointed Out

"Thank you." Buck Said, as Athena nodded.

"Buck." He and Athena stopped to face him, "Here are the ground rules you don't leave her sight,
you don't lie, you don't withhold any information from her, you don't break the law, and you don't do anything that's gonna force her into early retirement. You got it?" Bobby Said

"You got it, Cap." Buck Nodded, then he and Athena exited the hospital.

Back on the road Doug is still driving around, hoping and looking for gas station as the car was running out.

"Come on. Where is it?" Doug Wondered

"Continue following the road for 1.7 miles." The navigation system spoke

"I don't... I don't see anything." Doug Sighed

Maddie who looks distraught and defeated, looked to Doug, "Just do it already."

"What?" Doug Said

"Kill me. That's your plan, right? kill Chimney, kill Becca and kill me; Hopefully, do the world a favor
and kill yourself before it's done." Maddie Said

"Why would I kill you, Maddie? I don't want to hurt you. I love you." Doug Said, as she scoffed.

"Yeah, right." Maddie Said

"I can't imagine my life without you. You're all I have." Doug Said, as she glanced at him angrily.

"You don't have me." Maddie Said

"Your destination is on the right."

"There it is. You see? Never give up hope." Doug Said

He drove over towards a gas station the place didn't look as active, since there was no cars around the. Doug parked the car.

"Don't move." Doug Said

He gets out the car to go pump some gas, Doug's phone vibrates as he takes it out to see there's an abduction alert. Doug gets annoyed and kicks the gas pump then walked off for a second, while in the car Maddie looks around the car for something she could use to get help as her hands are tied in zip ties.

She looks in the glove compartment and takes out a piece of paper, then looked around as Doug wasn't in sight and got out of the car.

"Hey, where you going?" Doug Asked, walking over to her.

"I-I was looking for you. I have to pee." Maddie Said

Doug squinted his eyes, "Yeah? You sure that's all?"

"Y-Yeah. I mean, look around, Doug. Where am I going to run to? Do you want me to pee in the restroom or the car?" Maddie Said

They both noticed a truck driving next to their car, Doug pulls Maddie closer then took out his knife to cut the zip ties.

"Keep your head down." Doug Said, lightly shoving her towards the store.

Maddie entered first as Doug was behind her, the store owner who was reading a newspaper sat up and greeted them.

"Evening." He looked to Maddie and noticed some bruises on her face, "You folks doing okay?"

"Yeah, good. Um, do you have a restroom that I could use? I feel like we've been on the road forever." Maddie Said

"Sure thing." He takes out the key putting it on the counter, "In the back, to the left."

"Thank you." Maddie Said, as she walked towards the back as Doug looked over his shoulder at her.

"You folks vacationing?" He Asked

"Yeah. Second honeymoon." Doug Said

In the bathroom Maddie quickly wrote something down on the paper with the pen she stole from upfront, Doug being impatient walked back there and knocked on the door.

"You okay, babe?" Doug Asked

"Yeah. Yeah, I-I'll be out in a minute." Maddie Said, as she frantically tried opening the window.

"Let's go. Let's go, Maddie." Doug Said, as he pounded at the door.

Maddie used the key as a wedge to open the window, using this opportunity to get away she climbed out of it.

"Maddie!" Doug Called out

"No!" Maddie Yelled, as she tried running away but Doug caught up to her.

"You're always running. Aren't you tired by now?
I sure am tired of chasing you." Doug Said

"Just let me go. Please just let me go, Let me go!" Maddie Begged

The two of them heard a gun cock as they turned around to see the store owner holding his gun out, aiming it at Doug.

"Hey! You heard the lady. Back away. Let her go." He Said

"No. Sir, honestly, I-I think that you've..." Doug Said, as he let Maddie go.

"I said back away." He Said, sternly moving closer towards him.

"I-I think you're misunderstanding." Doug Said

He then lunged at the man taking a swing at him, but the store man backed up only for Doug to shove him against the wall.

As the two men wrestled for the gun, Doug got the upper hand turning the gun away and pointed it towards the man he pulls the trigger shooting the store owner.

"God." She runs over to him, "My God. Sir..sir, stay with me, okay? I'm gonna call 911, and they are gonna save you. Stay with me. Okay, it's okay.
Stay with me." Maddie Said, placing pressure over his wound.

She heard the gun go off one more time as blood splattered over her face, Maddie opened her eyes again to see the store owner has a gun shot wound to the head then slowly looked over at Doug who's pointing the gun.

"Oh my god." Maddie Said, in shock.

"No one's saving anyone now. Let's go. Let's go." Doug Said

"No, no." Maddie Sobbed, as Doug dragged her away from the man.
