〔 THE FINAL COUNTDOWN 〕

"oh my god is she okay?" hyeon asked, her phone falling out of her hands in shock.

da-eun looked up from her own phone, a bit red around the eyes. "they said it was a saesang... some fans honestly take things too far..."

"they don't know yet... the wreck wasn't too bad but i'm still worried," confessed hachi, not knowing how she could help.

"where was she going?" asked xue, moving to sit down next to hachi on the couch. the younger girl sat there without moving, looking a bit green in the face.

"she was coming back from an extra practice, she really wanted to nail the choreo before our debut..." da-eun said softly. "and then they came out of nowhere and plowed her over."

"can we go see her?" asked chunhwa, doing her best to stay strong, but tears were already starting to well up in her eyes.

yuka stood up to wrap chunhwa in a hug, the two girls weren't the closest to sara but they all knew how important she was to the group.

sara had waited for so many years to be debuted, not as long as hazel but long enough to know the struggles of being a trainee. she had been turned down time and time again from being in groups and wish had been her lucky break.

she was a huge part of wish and put her blood, sweat, and tears behind the group. she worked extra hours alone in the practice room and was always positive despite getting little sleep... but now it seemed like she might never see her dream come true.

if sara wasn't able to debut with them tomorrow, would she be kicked out of the group she had worked to hard to join?

"we have to push back our debut to wait for her," xue said suddenly. "sara worked much harder then any of us, it isn't fair to her."

"without sara... are we even going to go through with this? everything we planned... there's no point if we have to leave her behind. we can't do it." hyeon put her head in her hands to try and conceal her tears. everyone knew how important each member was to the group at this point, they couldn't debut with just seven members.

but still, was it really worth giving up their chance at debuting? all for one member?

"i'm going to talk to the ceo," hazel declared, wiping away her tears and standing up with new determination. "we can still release the m/v tomorrow, but maybe we can halt the promotional activities until sara gets better."

the members all hummed in agreement.

"it's all or none," agreed xue. "we need to tell them that. we wait for sara."

the room fell into silence, broken only by the harsh sound of a knock against the door. hyeon opened it to reveal a poised woman with a tight bun and a professional smile.

"hello, ladies," said the ceo of wonderland entertainment. "i'm sure you've all heard the news... terrible, really, but business moves on. your debut will not be paused and you're all set to go on m countdown for you debut stage next week. da-eun, you'll take over sara's dance break in trick-or-treat. any questions?"

"we're not doing the debut stage," said yuka with a surprising burst of confidence. "we're waiting for sara."

"i'm afraid that's simply not possible," said the ceo with a condescending smile. "both myself and my colleagues have agreed that wish will continue to debut as planned."

"but what about sara?" pressed hachi. "we can't leave her behind."

"what about sara?" asked the ceo, sounding a bit exasperated. "there was never a sara. pretend like she never existed and you'll all heal nicely. maybe if she improves enough, she'll rejoin wish eventually."

"no!" shouted chunhwa, shocking everyone, including herself. "if sara's not in the group, then i'm out."

"you can't buy your way out of-"

"i think you're underestimating just how rich my father is, ms. ceo-nim," said xue plainly, crossing her arms over her chest. "it's sara or nothing. you've had your fun, but i think you're forgetting what we can do."

"i can't - you can't - " stuttered the ceo, obviously a bit flustered.

"yes we can and yes we will," said hazel with a smirk. "here's our deal. we'll release the trick-or-treat m/v as planned, but we're delaying the debut stage. we'll wait for sara to get better."

"but that could take months!" protested the ceo, her face growing a bit red.

da-eun looked up from her phone and grinned. "sara just texted me. she's in the hospital, and she's okay. her ankle's been sprained and her shoulder's broken, along with some minor fractures and bruises. she'll be fine!"

all of the members cheered, the ceo noticeably silent.

"change of plans," said hazel. "if sara's well enough in two weeks to sit on a chair while we perform our debut stage, we'll do it. da-eun can take over her dance break."

"ah, i don't really know - " protested da-eun, not very confident in her dancing skills.

"you're an amazing dancer, bae, you'll do fine," said yuka with a shy smile. "come on, wish! fighting!"

after almost half an hour of pestering, the ceo finally relented and let them visit sara. each member followed her to a van where a driver was waiting to take them to the hospital.

they gathered around sara, who was bruised with her leg and arm in a cast, but she was awake and smiling softly. "are you guys still going to debut?" she asked frantically, still worrying for her group members even in her injured state.

"don't worry about that," said hyeon with a teary smile.

"we're in the final stretch, you guys have to debut," sara insisted. "don't let me hold you guys back."

"we're still debuting, sara sunbae," reassured hachi. "but you shouldn't be worrying about us! are you okay?"

"does she look okay, honestly hachi," said xue with a deadpan tone.

"i'll be fine," said sara as tears started to fill her eyes. "i can't believe i blew my only chance at debuting..."

"unnie, of course you're still in the group!" said da-eun with a half-smile, trying valiantly not to burst into tears. "did you really think we could do it without you?"

"you guys are the best," sara whispered, afraid that if she was too loud she'd start crying uncontrollably.

"stop making me cry~" xue complained, fanning her eyes dramatically. everyone burst out laughing at her antics, but at least it helped lighten the mood.

only one day left until debut, what were they going to do?
